4/13/2011 - Lightweight K Cup

I tried this seasonal for the 1st time today, it was easy but pretty fun :) My little Susuki MR got me an Art Morrison Vette in 20 mins :D Love that lil' boxy monster :sly:

I think I just found my new money-maker :)

I didn't really enjoy this seasonal. To each their own. I'll be playing the Lambo seasonals to grind for money and may go back to do the FF, FR, 4WD, etc. seasonals.

This series is tons o fun. The tiny cappuccino with slightly over 100hp and comfort softs is my weapon of choice right now, but after reading here i think ill give the az-1 a go. Drifting is loads of fun with so little power, you really get to experiment with technique (feint, shift lock, trail braking). You guys switch off the abs if driving with wheel, last turn on deep forest really gets hairy when you go sideways on to the exit curb ;) And thank god for the pp system, no more guessing what the opposition drives. Might get flamed for that, but i think that tires should affect the pp as it's a major advantage when AI runs on CS.

I really wonder why people bother with pointless posts such as this.

I think they just want attention, same as the guys who say "ohh such and such race was too easy. i did it with [insert underpowered cars] with [insert mods that suggest driver has skill]"

I try my I-MiEV on each track. There are always two cars usually Beats that get a big lead. Third is the best I can do (4th on Rome) I can't get enough top speed to close the gap quickly enough.::embarrassed:

There's a lot of "My way of playing GT5 is the only way and anyone playing it any differently is a loser" type comments on this forum anyway.

I'd just say that when you're looking for different things to do in a game, GT5 does seem to come up trumps, what with Seasonals, time trials, car collecting, online racing, modding, tuning, photo mode and not forgetting the forums!

And these K car seasonals can be addictive, slow or otherwise.

I'm loving my Cervo to the bits... With sports @ front and comforts @ rear it gets just sooo livelly and loves to tailslide...

Top Speed is a problem with a stock I-MiEV. While drafting, you'll bounce off the "rev limiter" quite a lot (~134 km/h) and it takes a LONG time until it starts accelerating again. But if you only press the accelerator half-way starting at 133 km/h, you can make it to 139-140. Doesn't sound much, but might make the difference. At least it does for me on the last downhill-stretch on Deep Forest, before the left corner that the AI can't drive at all...

Had fun with these races in a Beat. Thought it was stock but I forgot I'd lightened it a long time ago for some online races, still came in at 325pp with no other mods though. Deep Forest was too easy, Rome and Eifel were good close races, and I had to add a few horsepower upgrades (up to ~350pp) to beat the other two, as there just wasn't quite enough time to catch up to the leader. Even had to use Sports Hards on Eiger because I suck at that track. :( The Beat is a fun little car, though it's got some oversteer with comfort softs. Nothing that'll make you lose control, but it'll kill your speed if you overdrive it through a corner. Just for fun, I went back and ran a bunch of other Kei-cars on Deep Forest; most of the boxy ones drive about the same (and destroy the AI even on comfort softs), but the AZ-1 was a fun little handful. The Cappuccino, of course, was the best handling of 'em all.

With the i-miev, I think I got 1st in all but 2 - and 2nd place in them. But I did all the weight reduction I could, and put it on racing tires. And I'm a terrible driver - others may do much better.

I think that's the case with most things. There's always a percentage of the population who can't possibly imagine that if they don't like chocolate, why anyone else would ever want chocolate - as if they think if they don't like something, it must be bad.

Fortunately, most of us realize most things are a matter of taste.
I didn't get this game for race cars. I'm just not into race cars. Or stock cars. I for one, like the idea of being able to race in real road cars. Including and especially the tiny ones like kei cars, and things like the Mini Marcos or especially the Z Act & the Autozam.
But clearly many people like race cars & stock car racing... and hey, that's great for them if they're enjoying it, lots of people do.

I knew from GT2 that the Suzuki ALTO WORKS SUZUKI SPORT LIMITED '97 is a killer, I bought it a few months ago when it was available from the used cars dealers.
I'm glad I didn't sell it because it's so much fun to drive it in the Lightweight K cup.
That's the beauty of the GT serie, driving an Alto works and the for the next race jumping into a Toyota GT-One.

The Suzuki Sport Alto certainly is a blast to drive. However it's 4WD so you might get a little bit of understeer through tight corners, such as the middle section in Eifel. I almost got off the track just by driving it flat out.

Not a big fan of K cars but Daihatsu Copen Active Top works well for this and i already love Rome circut but reverse wow it flows so much better. I also see alot of grinding on the Eifel circut for money 3 laps in 3:10 for 100K niice

I totally agree about the Rome course in reverse, flows much-o better and better sight-seeing! I like to use the Daihatsu Copen Active Top too. Soup it up to about 160hp and zoom around the tracks. I'd like to test-drive one of these cars in the real world.

I've been having fun running different cars in these races. I agree with how annoying the AZ-1 is...Mine looks super cool, but it's dreadful to drive...The worst sound in GT5 for sure.

I've tried just about every K car in the UCD and OCD, and I must say the Honda BEAT is the best car overall for this series. For some reason they seem to wipe the floor with any car within 50PP, which highlights some weakness in the PP system. What do they use for PP besides power to weight ratio? Some of the K cars can be lighter and more powerful yet still have less PP than another car.

I only have the BEAT '92 F, and it is awesome. I'm looking forward to getting the '93 Z. Does anyone have both and know the difference? I assume the '93 is a bit better, but you never know.

I have enjoyed these races quite abit. It is alot more fun grinding these instead of Indy (I did the same with the Lambo seasonals). I do the Eifel race the most, since it pays the best. I have been testing cars that I have bought along the way (car collecting), that I don't normally use. For some good fun, try the Honda Life Step Van. It was pretty challenging with a heavly tuned Life Step Van on comfort softs. It took me 5 races to win it, and I only won by 0.6xx. Plus, if you slam it to the ground, it looks pretty cool dragging the frame and sparking under heavy braking LOL.

This Seasonal was another reason why I enjoy the Gran Turismo series so much.

I started with a stock Suzuki Cervo (with the aero kit and wheels added) and took it from there.

I ran each race, finished in 1st, 1st, 3rd, 3rd and 3rd. The ones I happened to win were by a 10th of second. The others I was forced to upgrade the car to finish with 1st place and the Gold trophy.

If you are bored with the seasonal races, lower the performance of your car, for the real enjoyment will come!!

I totally agree about the Rome course in reverse, flows much-o better and better sight-seeing!

The reverse courses in general seem to me much easier than their normal-direction brothers. Rome Reverse neuters the toughest corner on the course, the one around the Colosseum leading from/to the main straight. Front-ways with the kink leading in, the braking zone can be a real bear, particularly in high-power MR cars like the Lambos. On the reverse course, there's no really tough turn. Same's true of Deep Forest and Trial Mountain. High Speed Ring also seems easier in reverse, although you do get blinded at a really awkward time coming out of the first tunnel. One learns, though, to start braking in the tunnel and not to wait until you see the apex.

I agree. Even though you have to use slowest cars in the game for these, they're still a lot of fun. Not every car has to be super fast to be enjoyable. 👍

AZ-1 is a lot of fun for this race, I did have to upgrade it some but you make so much money from this series that it's no big deal.

The engine DOES sound like an out-of-tune lawnmower though. :dopey:

Really? My AZ-1 is completely stock except for racing suspension using Fumes' Lotus 111R tune and it easily wins the races by 4-5 secs.

Used the Honda Z Act for all these races! Awesome little car, revs sooo high. :)
The Cappucino RM is good for quick money, and for rolling if you hit the rumble edge to quickly, but these little cars that just get you into 1st as you get over the line on teh 3rd lap are much more enjoyable I find... even if it does take half a track to get up to speed. :)

+1 for the Honda beat owning this race. I used the Beat F upped to 90ish HP it was 2 places faster than any others I've tried 5th place on the end of first lap rather than 7th.

I also use this car , I use comfort soft on front & mid comfort on rear & 62bhp for 2nd race & love it . [ I am sure this car was called a Zot in Australia }

My Full House Cervo is just too fast, so I got the Autozam from the Mazda garage, put a box, full suss and 350pp's worth of engine mods (ECU, titanium exhaust, sports manifold & filter, I think)
Sports Hard tyres give it some nice oversteeriness and it's good to go. Made the lead on the last corner at Deep Forest. Looking forward to the other races.

What? you can do Deep Forest in the AZ-1 without mods, only with C.Soft tires. The Cervo is even easier. The AI is too slow there, i used to win the FR seasonal with a 71 mustang in C.Softs against RX-7, M3, Z33 in S.medium...

Indeed. I am not a fan of super cars, so I agree with that last sentence!!

I can't agree with you any more than that! These cars are an absolute blast to drive! 👍
