When it comes to running on comfort or sports tires I would tend to agree with you. But on racing tires with such low powered cars, The diff doesn't become as much of a factor. In fact, I have been removing it from some of my cars for this racing. I figure the stock diff is more "open" than even the low settings on the adjustible one. That should allow the car to rotate better. I typically have understeer problems at this level more often than oversteer (the BTR being one exception).

Video from truck night...

Omg I know when you were racing I'm pretty sure you hated the guy going backwards in the step but omg I died laughing seeing the Ram bulldoze his car out the way lol how much the step van weighs again lol!!!

So what are the most popular cars in this pp range for your races? I dont really have any tuned cars in this range and was curious about what to bring and buy mods for so i can be prepared for some close races.

My '90 RX7 is tuned to about 500pp right now and its a friggin blast to drive, i could buy a 2nd one and tune it up for this i think.

If you guys could maybe list off a few premium cars that would be helpful, im going to try to make it tonight

How often do you run the nurburgring?

I found that tuning the diff in the rear engined cars is really where i need to focus on before tuning the suspension. Usually i don't mess with the suspension too much. millions of dollars in R&D on a sports car should provide decent results (if the game is at all accurate). :)

I do think I need a LOT of fine tuning for the IROC camaro, lol. One of these nights I'm gonna jump back in there with you guys again! But I've been doing the FIA GT1 GT2 series, so I've been spending all my GT time tuning and practicing with my Z06RM.

did you save the 1st truck race on trial mountain? that one was a very tight battle.

jmo, and you're free to run your rooms as you wish -- i know where the exit button is -- once you turn the boost on, things go downhill.

Capps RM series just completed so I can join up Sun and Tues nights. I will try to make Wed. as often as possible. Mons are out till the Enduraces end in May. Hopefully Boosted and Nightengale make some of the events...we are quite evenly matched.

Actually I think I did. I'll see if I can record and upload it later today. Truck night was fun. We'll do that again next week.

We used boost for truck night as well as last night for keicar night. Most of the regulars can run similar lap times given the same car, so when we discover lap times vary by more than 2 seconds, I usually put boost on low to keep people from falling behind. Even with boost low, if your car isn't quick enough, you still won't be able to keep up on a tight course.

BTW, Keicar night...big failure. I dropped the pp to 420 so a variety of cars could be used...but it was virtually impossible to get some of them up to the pace of others. The Autozam looked like a good choice but it would spin out. The Copen ended up being 3-4 seconds quicker on almost every track...but of course I didn't have one to race. We eventually ended up on kart tracks with boost high. That was pretty much the only wheel-to-wheel racing we saw all night.

Sweet! Drop me a friend request so you can find the room.

I'll drop an FR by tonight. I've been running a 420 PP Sport Soft room so I'm hoping I can merely shed the ballast and engine limiting and be all set. I run mainly older 4wd cars BUT if tuners are allowed, I would switch to an S2000 350Z.

UPDATE: Just saw you're running racing soft tyres...I'll be in mid-ships if the course permits

Yeah, racing soft tires are what we run. Kinda levels the playing field between FR/FF/AWD drivetrains. S2000 can be very quick in this class. Car selection will be open tonight as long as its not an RC/RM/RALLY car.

I've got a few new cars to try out tonight. Not sure how they're gonna pan out. If they suck, I'll just go back to my old favorites.

Went back and watched this one. What a race! I think boost was off too! The draft brought all 3 trucks together after each straight and it was all about picking the right line. My SSR didn't quite have the low end power but definitely had the advantage through the tight sections of the track.

thanks for posting that. it was a great race. yeah, boost was off.

i apologize for the random use of the horn.. i use a ds3 and tend to push the left analog stick "in" when things get heated :D

People come and go so if you can't get in, wait 10 minutes and try again. I may have to start making the room private if this becomes a problem...but then again, it is exciting having 16 people each night. Of course there are usually only about 5 or 6 that can run consistent and clean laps.

Video from one of the early races last night. A close 4-way battle for 5 laps. I didn't do so well later in the night. Picked a few tracks I wasn't familiar with and got punted on a couple of occasions (violators were kicked).

I'm so happy you include the youtube links within the thread as it really helps to pass the time between paperwork. I was ran middle of the pack for most races (minus the last :() yet somehow pulled ahead quite easily on GVE reverse. Where there accidents or a plethora of penalties accessed? I used a different car each race, but I doubt my Nismo 270R was that much quicker than the other cars. I just dont understand...I'm usually slightly above average (Like a B-) but luck perhaps was on my side. (could have answered my question)

At GVE-R, the Japanese guy destroyed the entire front pack on his way to the front. He was booted after the race. I had the pole position in my TVR but ended up fighting from last place because of that guy. he punted me on the hairpin and i got stuck on the wall. Later in the race, a bunch of fast drivers had trouble getting around another car who was lagging. He was floating across the track smashing into cars and sending them spinning. It's not his fault, but when a car lags, they sometimes don't ghost and the result is sheer carnage. I think with the two accidents i still managed a top 5 finish. I just waited for the front straight to draft and pass cars (something I wish everyone in the lobby would learn).

I was quite stunned. With every checkpoint, my lead grew about .1 once the Japanese account was in second. I caught a glimpse of him getting around turn 1 in my rear, smoke billowing...he was intent on winning or making sure no one finished ahead of him I think. Fortunately I started 2nd or third and was on easy street 20 seconds into the race.

Last night I switched things up and ran some longer races on sport soft tires. The SS tires allow for a little more sideways action so I'll apply this restriction for the next few days to see how others feel about it. Believe it or not, my tune still handled OK on the harder tires.

I also liked the longer races (minimum 10 laps) because it allows you to stretch out a battle and wait for the right passing moment.

Last night I ran 3 races...

25 laps at Grand Valley East -- SS Tires -- Damage on full.
I was running slower laps but I stayed off the guard rails and won by 30 seconds because I didn't have to make an extra pit for repairs.

25 laps at Cape Ring South -- SS Tires -- Damage on full again.
After mistakes during the first race, drivers smartened up and played it safe. 1st and 2nd battled for 12 laps with multiple lead changes. On lap 13 I nailed the chicane and had a 1.5 second lead so I decided that was the best time to pit. The 2nd place car followed suit. Coming out of the pits I took it slow on the cold tires and increased my lead to 2.5 seconds. The 2nd place car made a mistake and I coasted to another victory winning by 10 seconds. Meanwhile The 3rd and 4th cars were having their own battle about 10 seconds behind us.

10 laps at Toscana -- SS Tires -- Damage on light
Some new-comers joined us and the racing was a little rough the first few laps. Two cars pulled ahead while just about everyone else made at least one mistake. The track had some very slick parts where the course creator banks were abnormally uneven which caused cars to bottom out and spin. I think I'll lower the banking before using the course again. Either that or people will have to raise their suspensions to allow more travel. I have a video of this that is being uploaded now.

Toscana last night. Video cut short becuase I can only record about 10 min with my digital camera.

The guys up front were very fast. The Skyline was really working the throttle and carrying tons of speed through turns. I was running relatively clean 1:11 laps but he was down to 1:07. Very impressive.

Had some fun races, i think i would have preferred boost on high for those big 16man races though.

All of the races ended up with like 3 distinct groups of players after the first turn crash(usually).

The people who made it out of the turn unscathed were in the front, the people who were spun out end up as a 2nd pack and the crashers end up in the rear. Its nearly impossible to catch up to the front if the leaders are racing clean. I suppose with boost on high the crashers will continously be a problem though, hrm =[

As soon as you left at midnight like 6 people left with you and that was pretty much the end of the room, perhaps you could designate someone to take over the room after you decide to head out? I would have loved to race further into the night.

And as a last question, would anyone mind posting some of their 450pp car tunes (parts used and/or settings)? Is it better to tune cars sub 450 to 450 even, or to tune them higher and then restrict them to fit into the bracket?

We have tried boost in the past. The more racers, the more of a disaster it becomes. If I know all the racers, boost low sometimes works. In general, people need to use caution on lap 1. I try to stress that when the race starts but people don't always listen. The goal is not to pass everyone on turn 1, it's to turn a double file start into a single file pack. You can use the draft to pass drivers later in the race.

As for the room emptying at 12:00, a bunch of my regulars are east-coasters like myself. I usually duck out around 11:45-12:00 and will pass the reigns over to who ever has been in the room the longest. Perhaps I should set it to auto start before I leave so the races continue w/o interruption.

As for tunes, I can share a few. After hosting this room for several weeks we have found it is best to find cars that are pretty close or a little over 450pp. Overloading a car with mods to hit 450 sometimes works but Lots of cars suffer from skinny tire syndrome...meaning they don't have as much grip as other cars. Two cars we know are very quick are the Lotus Elise and Honda/Acura NSX. Pull out one of those if your driving skills are putting you at the back of the pack. In the right hands though, they can be several seconds quicker per lap...which is why the veterans stay clear of them...not much of a challenge.

Its weird... in the replay the GTR change gears early .....and the back of the car is smashed (I'm the GTR driver) that's not what I see in my replay. lol!

That skyline suffer from skinny tire syndrome....the 1st gear is painful even on racing soft tire .(Cornering power) ...it's no bad with a good tune....It's a blast to drive!!!!

I would like to have this track!!450pp races are awesome:tup:

The track is shared, I think you can drive it from my community page.

I noticed you were breaking loose the rear end during qualifying, but man that car is fast on the straights. I don't know how you managed those lap times. Replays are funky sometimes. Slight lag makes driving lines look a little wonky and shift points are never precise unless it's your own replay.

Tonight is 80's night. Tires will be restricted to Sport Soft. I will start the night off with some short races. If competition is tight I may run a longer race with damage on full later in the evening.
