Working on my term paper furiously so i can play tonight. Got a bunch of cars i want to try out. I'm liking how every night is a new theme!

Then get off the forum so you can finish up!!!!

9:15-9:45 will be tuning. I'd like to start first extended length race no later than 10:00 so we can fit in at least 3 races before midnight.

I may be on as early as 9:00 tuning some cars and if people join me we can run hot laps together to compare tunes. I'm thinking Cape Ring South is a good starting point. Not too long, a good technical chicane, decent high speed twisties, moderate straight, and a nice turn 1 to keep things clean at the start of the race.

Put in your suggestions for other tracks...but keep in mind we'll be running the track for 25-30 minutes. In other words, think long and hard before you suggest 4 laps on Nordschleife.

I really like Rome reverse, Tokyo Reverse, Deep Forest Reverse....I didnt used to then all the sudden grenade started saying how great they were and I jumped on the bandwagon:D

Yeah, 4 laps on the paper-thin 'Ring (where you can't pass anyone) sounds great after the amount of banging and rubbing hubub there was apparently the last time you went racing

My actions put Chulyer1 several seconds off pace (6-7) when my pushing on grenadeshark, led to him swiping Chulyer off course. Following OLR, I waited for Chulyer to re-enter and take his rightful position in front of me. Would have been 3/4 but I believe grenade was brushed into grass causing spin on last corner.

As for Cape North, no hard feelings there about the pileup. It happens. At the end, I think I caused Grenade to go off course.

Same ****. Different day :ouch:

It's all good. :)

I'd like to see a race at Suzuka Circuit / Weather Change, would throw a nice strategy wrench into the festivities. Plus it's unbeatable as being a fun, technical romp.

i can make it out tonight for this one. im down for 4 laps on the nurb

for me the best track for online racing is indianapolis road course. beacouse its very wide so you can overtake without hitting other cars, and there ara lots of breacking points where its actually possible to pass. personally i choose track that is not to narrow.grand valley and fuji are good too.

From my driving seat, last night went pretty well...except for my own driving.

Weak Penalties kept the start of the race a little cleaner but people still need to understand that you will have to lift off the throttle on the first lap well before the turns. I was pushed around quite a bit on our 5-lap warmup despite having the fastest lap time.

Deep Forest Reverse came down to consistency. The pack spread out but clean drivers were able to catch up to people (like me) who didn't know the track as well. I tried some bump-draft team work whenever someone was near me. Cars got really spread out at Daytona and I heard about some rough racing toward the back. I would've kicked the offender but I guess you can't boot people from your own lobby. I was battling at the front for Rome Reverse but once my tires lost their edge I couldn't negotiate the kink and made a mistake that cost me 3 positions.

There were some suggestions to turn on boost=low for these long races. I'm hesitant to do so because it will reward the bad drivers more than the good drivers.

Overall, I think drivers need to use the beginning of the race to work together. Running 3 or 4 wide causes accidents. Instead, pick lane on the straight and bump draft. Push one car so he is faster than the other. If the straight is long enough, you can get a few pushes in and two cars will be much faster than one. It's not rocket science. Just don't bump someone too close to the brake zone, and remember the brake zone will be earlier if you are traveling faster.

I'm game for 4-laps at the 'ring as well as a race in the rain. i haven't done much wet racing aside from the Mercedes special event so it'll definitely be interesting.

I think people just need to understand that, especially with races like the 20 lapper (and the 4 lap 'ring :D) you will not win the race on turn 1. Be patient. Also, slow in, fast out really does work it can prevent the accidents and often times, is faster around the track.

I was dissapointed at getting punted out of the lead on turn one of the 20 lap race. I checked the replay and the person who hit me -- it really wasn't his fault, he was also hit by another driver and pushed into me. Fortunately for him, I was there prevent him from spinning off.

Last was the most consistent night I've been apart of. I never ran quicker than 3/4 or slower than 7 EXCEPT for Deep Forest where I was lag punted for a good 10 seconds. I spent that entire race gaining .2 or so seconds on the Booch/Chulyer battle, reducing the 10+ second advantage to less than 3 by the final corner...my worst finish yes, but best driving. It goes to show though how fast the leaders were running...when Mike chatted the distance behind, I was about 8 behing Chulyer and 53 behind the leader. Chulyer is no pushover and though I gained 5s on him; I only gained 2s on the leader.

You didn't miss much in our battle. I had better tires before the pit stop and caught him. After the pit stop (despite his sluggish pit crew) he came on strong, we were close for about a lap then he passed me and I never saw him again. I am rubbish on that track, especially reverse. I just can't get consistent with my brake zones. On one lap I'll nail a turn and the extra speed I carry screws up the brake zone for the next turn.

If we get 12-16 drivers tonight for the 'ring. I guarantee at least 1/3 will be off track by the time we through to Schwedenkreuz (the high speed left hander followed by the sharp right). I will probably be punted on that turn when I brake early to avoid running wide.

you need to carry a bigger ban stick. :D

kidding aside, it doesn't have to be that way. i've been in a few big rooms on the ring where people understand nurb is long (especially at 4 laps lol) with lots of opportunities and don't rush to the front taking out whatever is in their way.

After the room fell apart...we had 6 left who ran 2 laps opn the Ring. I think leadbedr, mike, grenadeshark, myself, booch and someone in a blue 350Z. 10 seconds in over the mic I called out that turn as the danger danger situation. Even with calling it out, I think there was an off...one that in a larger room would have decimated the field. As bad as that turn is..about 10-15 turns later, there's an elevation change that leads into a slow left hander that Everyone missed. We were all discussing how between the two corners that have that ridiculous (famous) buildup...we can get completely lost (especially Mike and I) and the off happened just then. If anyone saved the race...I'd love to see who was leading when we went hurdling into that corner.

Yup. Driving the 'ring and Racing the 'ring are two different beasts...which is why I almost never pick that track. But we'll try it tonight and see how it goes. I will save the replay and record the first lap so we can discuss what happened afterward.

Some banning may be in order, but I will be democratic about it. I run the room, but you guys call the shots. If there is a consensus about a particular driver. One warning will be issued. If your name comes up again over the radio, you're gone. I believe there were issues with D3monic last night. He's on the bubble as of right now.

Well as a first time visitor to the lobby, I had a good time despite coming in last @ Cape Ring, and a slightly improved second to last @ Deep Forest :sly: I'm definately going to have to set up a few cars for the Wed. night races. I was bummed to have missed out on the Dayton road course race, but I had to get some sleep. I'll be looking forward to next week, hopefully with a more competitive car.:dopey:

Glad you could join us. I've got close to 50 cars set up for 450 pp now. Unfortunately there are only about 5-10 that are competitive. The others were basically failed attempts at making something unique fast.

My rule of thumb lately is to pick something that is around 425-460pp in stock trim. Add a few mods to get it over 450pp then use power reduction to level out the power band a little. Too much power reduction results in a sluggish car. Too little results in a weak narrow power band.

I had a 4+ second lead that entire race until eventually d3monic passed me(again using his bump technique). I kept up with him for a long time, about 2 seconds behind when I went off track and 3rd place caught me (i think booch?). I stayed behind him but eventually got bored and drove crazy. I ended up in like 5th of 6. lol.

D3monic was a problem because he constantly ran into the back of people on every turn. In my cars, being rear ended enough always ends up in the same reaction. Hint: I go off the track.

I was talking to diablo, I literally got ran into the back of on Deep forest reverse at least 15+ times in a 4-5 lap period.

On Daytona, he tried to brake the inside line which is fine, except when your trying to pass from behind someone on the racing line. What ensues is him knocking me off the track.

There are a few drivers that go all out no matter the cost to get the lead. I have already named quite a few of them.

Rome Reverse, I was on the racing line going into turn 5 (braking chicane before straight) and ssd was on the inside but slightly slower then me after pushing me to the outside the turn before (using me as a wall). I held my line and stayed slightly ahead of him. I braked appropriated and went to turn in (again on the race line) and he failed to brake. So basically he ran straight into me knocking me straight into the wall and having hit me, it slowed him down enough to make the turn.

This just happens too often. If people can't make a clean pass, they try to pass anyways. Had this been real life, both our cars would have been totaled after that turn. But this being gran turismo, he was able to keep going on unscathed.

Also, I apologize for getting heated over the mic. But, it seemed like every race, there was someone driving extremely dirty that literally caused me to go from contention to basically last.

Btw, here is the pass on daytona. Is this considered a fair way to pass? Block the racing line, then bump the guy to put you on the racing line?

Ssyd (I think that's who you are talking about) is on the bubble as well. I have had bad run-ins with him...but then I have had good battles with him.

BTW, How do you un-friend people on the PS3? I tried to do it last night briefly and couldn't figure it out.

I make mistakes all the time. But, I immediately apologize to the driver and I try not to mess up the same driver multiple times in the same race. If I bumped him earlier and I am trying to pass for a 2nd time, he has the right of way 100% unless I have a 100% clean pass attempt.

I have had plenty of good races with demonic, but he is just very dirty in his passing attempts.

On the friends list note, I have no idea.

I couldnt believe you asked for me to wait up that second lap after D3 used his patented manuever. :yuck: I'm glad I did't...as we found out later that you'd get 2-3 seconds on me just from the final straight.

On your PS3 friend list...hit triangle on the person you want. I delete anyone who has not logged on for 10+ days.

Nice evidence. This sort of shenanigans happens way too often :ill:

Chuyler got something really good going here 👍 : Just fun racing without championship implications, point system nor standings. This club has really opened up GT5 for me. I've learned and done so many things I would not, nor was I planning on doing in GT5: No racing line, reverse tracks, etc.

In one race last night (Daytona if I remembered correctly) I had the slowest car on the track. Finished the race in last place. But i was learning the track in completely new way: no racing line and learning break points. I actually was second to last on the final lap. I checked my mirror and braked late into a corner and ended up in the wall

Still fun though :). Guys, read GT Planet's ORL and it keep clean and simple.

I've found that online, almost no one uses the racing line. The whole slow in fast out concept doesn't seem to hold water online. What I have found is that a lot of people basically under brake turns then end up really slow coming out of them. I on the other hand heavy brake, then maximize speed through the apex so I can come out the fastest on the other end.

I find it entertaining that I am always top 1-5 in polls on basically every track, but by the end, I am 30+ seconds behind the leader due to all the race shenanigans :(.

WARNING:
The following rant contains facts, opinions and hyperbole. Read on at your own risk

Not to beat a dead horse (It's dead afterall, what does it care??) but the most ofter abused rule involves exactly what is depicted in grenadeshark's youtube post. The person in front has the Right to take a corner at a speed they feel comfortable. They can brake early or late, go inside or out and the car behind them should not in any way dictate how quickly their car accomplishes the turn.

Here are several problems with the youtube pass:

1.The car went invisible....any time a car goes invisible and the car its going through is facing the track, not a lapped car and moving forward...a corner was cut or line abused. If it cannot happen in real life, its no way to pass on the track.
2. Because D3 choose to pass when no line exsisted, he created one that would cross the lead driver. That cross affected the line out that Grenade would take.
3. Not only did the car reanimate alongside the lead driver, but it comprised the next corner. I dont think a passing attempt should ever affect the leading cars line in a corner, but in consecutives its appalling.

I keep looking at the video and I cant figure out how he knew he'd ghost right through him?? And if he didnt, he knew he was going to put grenade into a wall. You dont run up and cut inside on someone at that particular corner with his line and have good intentions. Even if you know you will ghost through him (I think only a dirty driver would) you're really disrupting the rhythem people are trying to maintain by taking ill-conceived lines through cars on track.
