Not feeling that at all.

But that's not a livery, it's just a solid black car with white words on it.
A livery is any kind of visual distinction that associates an object with a particular brand, organisation or sponsor. Nowhere does the definition of "livery" state that it has to have mountains of swirly patterns and a full pallet of colour. Not a clue where you've got that from.

Ehhh, the Superbird is iconic because it's a Superbird, and that one in particular because it's Richard Petty's. It could have been pink with green dots on it, it would still be iconic, because Petty drove it. Ferrari is iconic because red = Italian racing colors, and 97% of Ferraris were red to begin with. Besides, Ferrari F1 is ****, IMO, since it changed from Rosso Corsa to Rosso Marlboro in the late 90s.

Iconic and good/great are two different things in my book. A car can be iconic without its livery being actually good or great, and vice versa. Like I've said about 4 years ago on the first page of this thread, pretty much no one would care about the 555 Subaru WRC cars if it wasn't for Colin McRae and Richard Burns and what they did with those cars... they would just be blue Subarus with gold lettering on them.

Ferrari reverted their red back in 2007 because Rosso Scuderia was too bright on HD cameras.

It's because of the unique properties of red light. If you film or photograph anything that is red, the image that you capture will actually appear several shades lighter. I believe Ferrari deliberately darkened their paint so that the car appears on television and in photos as the "correct" colour.

Think of it this way, Bob Dylan might be iconic, but he's far from a good singer.

I agree however, solid colors and very little branding works sometimes, but I don't think the Furniture Row cars are anything special. And lets be honest, the Arrows was a beautiful car anyway, although I've always prefered the Orange sponsorship from a few years after.

That is very true and I hadn't thought of the older days when liveries were more about the title sponsor.

I think going back even further a great livery was say a pale blue car with red stripe down one side and a white circle with number in it.
Even say the old Alfa GTAm racers. OK i need some pics...

I do think part of the attraction to liveries is the nature of the brand on it, for all of the evil fags negatives (and we know theres many!!) the effect on Motorsport not just financially was massive, to the point where the fag livered cars were all so iconic in part due to the fags branding and IMO a lot of reason they all seemed to be successful was not just coincidence but because of the vast amounts of money being chucked at the teams from the old coffin nails..
Rothmans , Marlboro, B&H, Silk Cut, JPS.
To the point where they were able to get away with it for longer than the ban by just having say a white square with red square in it and we all saw it and just thought, Marlboro..

Do we allow bikes in here?
