@Ridox2JZGTE

After watching that video this whole game makes sense to me now. Thanks!

Now I get the crazy car combos on the crazier track selections.

This is shorter video with all the actions of F40 :D

Tsukuba '96 Super Battle, it's tricky to drive even on dry track.

The F40 and F40 GT drives are Keiichi Tsuchiya and Motoharu Kurosawa ( Gan-san ), both are very good drivers, but rain is evil  Gan-san had raced the F40 several times in BM video in early 90's.

Imagine if the GT6 Super Lap is at Tsukuba on CS tire ( proper stock tire ), and wet track ( 20% water ) :D Gold time at 1:04 for wet or dry track gold time : 1:03.73

Wow, the stock F40 is so bad. It's unbelievable. No, really, I don't think there's any way the stock car was this bad. :)

Anyway, I tried @Ridox2JZGTE's tune and limited myself to only TC1. Best I could get was a 1:31.254 and a boat-load of irritation. ;)

Tried steering assist and TC4 and that still wasn't cutting it. Finally, I switched to a mid-RPM turbo, lowered the ballast amount accordingly, and switched the LSD to my typical setting of 8/10/20. Using TC2 and strong AS, I got a 1:30.267. (Even with all that, the car still wanted to rotate!)

If the default GT6 simulation even remotely approximates reality, the F40 is truly a masochist's car.

Is there any video showing somebody change the chasis of this car for road usage/track hobby (not competition race). Love the design look of this car but handling 👎 , no wonder Nigel Mansell sold it so fast ... $$$

I just noticed, that there's just one person in my friendslist that tried this event, i wonder when the others start this event..

Improved a few tenths and now down to a 1'24.552 for P2. Same settings as in my previous post but changed by LSD to 10/20/12. Would've liked to have challenged RB26 for the top spot but I was getting really frustrated with all the sliding and tyre squealing.

Stock GT6 F40 is a mess, riddled with inaccurate stats ( distribution, gearing, alignment, lsd etc ). I tried my 550PP on offline time trial, got 1:27s on 1st lap, the 550PP I posted is basically a stock F40 replica with EU no cats power spec with slightly less power, should be 530PS ( real car spec ). I included a replay if you want to use it as a ghost.

The Best Motoring videos above are stock F40 with stock tires too, except for the F40 GT :)
F40 debut at Tsukuba in 1987 time attack, it did 1:03.95.

In the early 90's ( 1992 ) the F40 raced in Best Motoring Tsukuba Super Battle, beating RUF CTR Yellowbird, Ferrari 512 TestaRossa, RUF BR2, Porsche 911 RSR, Lamborghini Diablo and Venturi 400 GT  ( stock F40 with factory tires ) It's best lap at Tsukuba was 1:04s in 1992 and 1:05s in 1993 race ( 530PS EU no cat ), a few years later, the F40 did 1:03.73 in 1996 Super Battle ( video I posted above ) The F40 could potentially shave a couple of tenths if running alone ( NISMO 400R was in the way  ), similar to the lap times with F40 replica ( US & EU version ) in GT6 with CS tire.

A stock Ferrari F50 in 1995 on stock tires could only do 1:05s at Tsukuba in real life ( BM Time Attack ), car provided by Art Sports.

Worth reading: Ferrari F40 - It's the closest you'll ever come to experiencing a nervous breakdown

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/ferrari-f40-archived-instrumented-test-review

Worth watching and listening: Jacques Laffite driving the F40 LM

Thanks YapalfeuAulac for posting that wonderful video,, and as others have said - the engine sound is PURE HEAVEN! Watching that video of course leads to watching many, many others thanks to YouTube and Ferrari fans posting videos of this beautiful car. Firstly, KUDOs to PD for selecting this car for a TT event. After watching only a few of these YouTube videos and listening to learned sports writers and sports car drivers we can understand why PD have selected this beautiful and intoxicating beast. YES, it is indeed a challenging car to drive - even with a very good tune - the end result lies directly in the drivers hands. Corner speed, precise and controlled braking, feather light throttle control, planned and precise steering input at exactly the right moment all play a part in producing a fast lap. My lap times at this moment are literally eon's behind the front runners, but that's OK - they ARE highly skilled playing this game and have obviously invested the time to get that quick. As we review and study their driving styles we try our best to glean something, something we can use to improve our own times - it works! For those of us interested and willing there's lots of time left to make improvements to our own lap times but the experience of learning HOW to drive this car - on these tires - is rewarding on many individual levels.

I also liked this 22 minute YouTube video with auto journilst Chris Harris narrating:

The final is set on the first step and stays the same at 3.620, to avoid the glitch. Oh, wait, :banghead: I made a typo on the 1st step :grumpy:, final should be 3.620. I have fixed the post. Sorry for the mistake, it should work nicely now on 1.17

Just for something to watch and enjoy, this is what happens when you drive an F40 in the rain (starts at 15:50) :

Best Motoring 1998-06

:lol::lol:

@Ridox2JZGTE I'm glad you found the typo. When I got home after posting my question I figured out what must have happened while trying to set the ratios. Thanks for the tune...I golded on about the fourth lap. My F40 already had your original tune on it that I used for the Ferrari challenge on Ascari a few months back, so it was somewhat familiar to drive.

Thank you for the wise words and the fantastic video. Very exciting and instructive!

Heh, reading this thread was enough to get in the mood for trying this :dopey: just made it gold, damn this is hard, but damn it's a fun car that is very true, gonna take some time to hang of it though :scared:

@Stotty insane lap mate great driving  I did 1.25.523 and TBH I have no idea where could I find even couple more tenths, not even talking about nearly 7 :scared: hehe, gonna take some grinding if I want to get even close, really nice car though, nice to see PD finally starting to have some sense in these TT's, that PP stuff was getting really boring already

I genuinely thought this was a very easy lap. Completely stock, DS3, all aids apart from ABS off and I got half a second under gold on my first run. As long as you drive the car sensibly and have a feel for when the back's about to step out, you'll be fine.

Pro-tip

Don't forget to swap those front tires out to comfort softs. It completely changes the handling. No more rearend kick-out.

Tsukuba '96 Super Battle, it's tricky to drive even on dry track.

If you look closely when he's losing the rear in that first video, he catches it quite easily, even with huge movements of the steering wheel. This type of thing is much harder to do on a video game, especially with a DS3. The biggest problem with the F40 has always been the trailing throttle oversteer, and thankfully, the tune I used made that pretty much go away!

I read that in the description (a rarity), but didn't bother, as I didn't think it would make that much of a difference.

You can increase the steering sensitivity for DS3 to catch oversteer easier :) The replay I provided was also done on stick ( DS2 ) and no aids ( no ABS ), steering sensitivity on +1.

Managed a 1:31.398 on my first or second lap (after messing up the first corner about 3 times). I upgraded the car previously so it was already at 564PP so I had to set it to 89.4% power. Took me a while and only got a 1:30.953

Good damn this car is **** to handle.

I kind of imagined this is what an f40 would be like to drive. A complete wild animal. It's like you have to dance the car between oversteer and understeer continuously to get the most out of it.
Love it haha. First good lap a 1:28.4

Judging by the comments on the stock setup, I guess I should be glad I got this time on my first lap without any driver aids...

Great stuff, looks like a real life Seasonal event.

I too ran a low 1:30 on my first lap, only changing the camber to 0, adding 100 lbs of ballast @ -50, and the high-rpm turbo. TC was on 1. I tried two more laps with the car but they were red. The next day I input the Exeter tune, which is vastly better than stock, but only managed a low 1:29. No freaking idea how these guys are getting 1:24. I must be driving a different car entirely.

What size wheels are you using?

This is something I've been meaning to ask. IRL, changing to a larger, and heavier wheel can have dramatic consequences, especially if it's a really light car (Like a lotus). The *feel* of the car can be very different as well, usually because of the smaller, harder sidewalls. Does changing wheels in GT change any of the physics of the car at all, or is it merely cosmetic?

My first lap the car was completely stock...:P

I DEED EET

So here is what I did:
  • Create a bone stock setup
  • Add in stage 3 weight reduction
  • Add 11 kg of ballast
  • LSD set to 17/14/21
  • Transmission auto set to 300 km/h, the 2nd and 3rd gears slid all the way to the right, with some slight adjustments to the other gears, final not changed (thanks, glitch gremlin.
  • Did lap
  • Profit.

Funny, while it's true the car is more stable with softer tires on the front, I golded this with SH on front and back. The car brakes better and turns in easier for me with SH on both front and back, but it takes some throttle care on the exits.

I couldn't manage this event completely stock but wound upgrading with ECU, sports exhaust, level 1 turbo upgrade and double clutch plate. Good event.
