I've put in some more time with Kalmiya117's tune and I keep getting personal best laps at Trial Mountain... while feeling like I'm driving worse than normal and plowing all over the place!

This tune works, I'm just going to ignore my stupid feelings and just get used to how it feels. :dunce:

Well, I never claim much with my tune settings. I just share to see other perhaps improve or give their out takes on it. I do however find a tune is almost custom tailored to a person as well as the car. Not many people drive the car in the same exact fashion. So it either takes some getting use to, or it just does not work with that person. Like I tried Adrenaline's Tune and it made me understeer alot. I do not know why it just did. But he did well with it.

I love the Camaros in this game. Both the RM and non-RM Z28 are solid performers. I spent some time running around Deep Forest and came away with a best of 1:09.882. That was pretty much a perfect lap, but with my setup I can turn 1:10xxx consistently. A little pushy but rock solid rear end. I'm on a DS3 with ABS 1, all other aids off.

strangely enough I tried it after I messed about with my gears too much and reset them, and ended up posting my fastest time s with that gear setup, 1:10: 224 in the forest. However, something not quite my liking in 2nd and 3rd for the twisty parts. cant put my finger on it. having said that i did get my fastest times:tup: good job

played with the gears a bit more today and managed a 109.962 .... best time ever. Just drilled the 2 nd , 3rd and 4th gears down a bit . Pretty stoaked about that 109 ... never been in the 9's before.
awesome fun that race
gonna roll that historic cup now again

Quick question:

Is there a difference between the RM model and say a totally maxed out regular z/28 as far as times go?

Yes, 'Race Modified' is lighter, stiffer, and has adjustable downforce front and rear. RM's are usually quite a bit faster.

Thanks Mudd
ok so you see I'm running the afore mentioned Z/28 and a Shelby GT 350R and am in the low 20's and high teens and am wondering if maybe I'm just slow as molassus.....

Cya,
Hankster

Hankster, I believe most of the posted times in this thread are fully maxed out Z28's with race soft tires (unless otherwise stated). Be sure that is what you are running and the assists are off except for abs, when comparing times. I believe the RM Z28 should be at 607 PP when fully tuned. My personal best in the Z at the Forest is 1:10.4xx, I'll try to post my pic and my tune tonight.

The Z/28 I'm running is a regular one that is maxed and not RM'ed - with everything off except ABS on 1. Its hp is around 540 to 575 if memory serves. I'm assuming that those times are with the RM model totally maxed out?

Cya,
Hankster

That's correct, my recorded time is maxed out and RM'd. It was also ran during online mode during a race, and I was leading so there was no draft effect.

The suspension setup used:

Ride hight. -16 -16

Spring. 9.2 8.8

Damp ext. 4 4

Damp comp 2 2

Anti roll. 5 6

Camber. 2.0. 1.6

Toe. -0.24 -0.12

Diff. 12/29/10

Brakes. 6/5

At the time I recorded this lap I had not done any custom trans gearing. The trans top speed adjuster read 193, with the estimated top speed reading 196 mph.

Questions

I just RM'd my z/28 and the horsepower is at 548 after I turned everything back on? I thought I saw a post that said 609? What did I do wrong?

Down force - what settings?

Hankster

565HP 550 Ft Lbs Tq is the MAX power for the Camaro. You read the Max PP of the RM Camaro is 607.

Ok I'm calling Bull you know what!!!! ;)

I've spent the last two days running this car (a RM'd z/28) around the Deep Foresrt and can't get it any faster than 1:15. I'm using Kalmiya117's set up and useing the auto trans so I'm sure there is some time to be shaved but 6 seconds??? not bloody likely...

I'd love to see a video so maybe I can see what's going on perhaps I'm just not running the line?

Hankster

Hank, send me a fr request. I'll be happy ta race you in your lounge so you can record it or save the ghost, whatever you need. I was stuck at around 1:15xx for awile when I first started racing against some of the guys in this thread. My problem was simply finding the fastest line through each corner, just master them one at a time and find a corner entry marker. We can prob get Kalmiya to join us as well, I race him often.

Same here, I have a lowest of 1:10:140 ONLINE. So I have people who saw that lap time. Welcome to go ahead with em and Mudd.

ok guys I'm hopeing everyone realizes I'm being facetious - but really FUSTRATED as all hell....

Mudd I think you've got a point - for instance the first turn over the hill - I usually can't get through that beastie with out wrecking about 60 to 70% of the time. So I'm sure that I've got some time to shave there. I'm definitly guilty of trying too hard for sure.

Just for starters what kind of speed are you carring through that first turn?

Hankster

One other thing... really do double check the HP and parts - RM cars since one of the patches leave the Titanium Racing Exhaust installed but unticked. Which could also be handy, but clearly not in this instance.

I can't remember the times I got on that track in this fine automobile, but I definitely golded the Historic Cup a couple of times with it - and that was probably with a very basic tune (but maxed, although I can't remember whether it was R2s or R3s - likely the latter, as the Toyota 7 gets tricky to keep blocking, there).

I'll have to go watch a replay to give actual speeds, I always use manual trans and that allows me to judge my corner speeds by which gear/rpm range I'm in. I know the first corner at Forest is a third gear corner, I always slow quite a bit and turn in late but sharp, apexing to the inside by mid-corner so I'm full-on throttle by exit, then I hit forth gear just as my front wheels lift over the following hill.

But IMO, it's the last two left-hander's that make or break the lap times there. You really need to carry high speeds through both of them to set the times posted in this thread. I always try to approach each of the last two corners as fast as posable, at the last second I'll give a tap of the brake with a quick downshift and cut into the corner, immediately back on the gas and get back to 5th gear as soon as posable. Usually back into 5th before the downhill in-between them, and before the top of the hill on the final strait. And careful with the outside rumble strips on the final turn, it's necessary to touch them, but if you use too much of them it'll send you strait into the pit wall.

Hey Hankster, these guys are ridiculous fast man, good luck trying to hit that 1:10. Best I can pull is 1:12. And I suck at Deep Forest. I race with these guys a lot and they are not bull$h!t!ing you.

I use that last turn rumble strip as a tuning point on my cars, if the hitting the strip causes the car to swing around then I need to soften up the suspension. I make the cars as stiff as possible until they start to spin out on that turn and that has often led me to a decent stable tune for that vehicle.

On the first Hairpin, I am often in 2nd doing anywhere from 40-55mph, I shift into 4th before the hill crest and stay in 4th until the area before the tunnel, crossing over the concrete (legal) I downshift into 3rd and keep half throttle and power out hitting the grass and tunnel side concrete just a bit entering into the turn towards the second tunnel. I normally downshift into 2nd, and power on shifting into 3rd half way in the tunnel normal trying to pace my front tires close to the ext wall on the right side leading it for a decent straight line before the next turns.

As Mudd, I base alot of my speed by what Gear I am in. I learn tracks through the gears needed in each turn and rpms I am turning.

Also, Having a Section time of 21-23 Seconds in the first part (finish line to middle of first tunnel is the area you want to shoot for. The second Section in the middle of the tunnels on the back stretch you want a time of 49 to 52 seconds to help achieve a low lap time here in this car. I use those section times to help tune as well as the sections have specific areas on the track and can show how fast or slow your going through them compared to before and after.

It's been a couple months since I timed myself at the Forest, so I figured I'd better make sure I can still back it up! Here's a pic from tonight:

And here's a pic of me doin' it! (notice the red glowing front brake rotor)

My setup has been adapted quite a bit since I last shared it, but I'm gonna wait 'till I hit the 1:09's to post the revised version. :mischievous:

Sweet guys!! Thanks!!!

I'm usually at the speed and times listed - going into the streach before the final tunnel I'm usually right at about 48 to 49 sec that's before I hit the last tunnel. I got it down to 1:14 today so I'm cutting into the time here. The main thing is I'm not smooth enough G27 and all and pushing pushing and pushing so I wind up wrecking alot.....

I raced in the historical cup a couple of times tonight and muscled my way up into 1st and every time so far the Toyota and the Chaperal get me in the last lap soooo agrivating. but I'm hitting 1:14 consistantly tonight - yest I barley got to 1:15. The two cars that beat me are running 1:12's so I think untill I get the time down to that point I'll have a hell of a time winning that race.

the next thing is:

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and start to use the shifters. So far I'm too impatient.

PS I'm not on line yet.... I'm afraid the boss at the house here might just kill me!!!! you know the obsesive compulsive thing.......

Once I put their tune on my car I ran the historical cup and smashed it in both the camaro z28 & the challenger. And I only 1:12's so just get faster and you will have the dang Toyota & Chaparral before the last lap.

Yea I think 59sec is fast and 57sec or lower is alien fast. But I believe 1:01 is average. You need your car to hold high rpms in the last turn. And you need to go fast as h3LL in the first sharp turn that goes to first bridge.
