7th GTP F1 World Championship (F1 2010 edition) * SEASON FINISHED :'''( *F1 2010-2016

OK sure, 1 lap practice race is a good idea. We'll give it a go tonight and see how it pans out. So we do the 1 lap practice before qualifying obviously.

Shaggy and I were discussing stuff on Thursday when we had a practice race and Shaggy said if everyone apart from the leader brakes a bit earlier than usual we should all make it round turn 1 without incident....good idea?

What if the "leader" is on the inside line with 1 or more cars alongside on the outside? Surely the outside drivers have no problem braking later and the corner has not been won by the "leader" until the exit. (But you can't really call the drivers on the outside the "leader" as they haven't won the corner or position yet). For example, at Australia any driver trying to take a tight inside line will leave himself open for an attack on the outside. If the "leader" does this, he cannot then cut across for the left kink because he last left competitive racing room already. But at the same time, the outside drivers can't take their usual line through the apex and have to watch the inside driver, its difficult to really call who is the "leader" in this situation.
Kind of the point of racing, you sort out who is "leader" by battling on the track, i.e. the leader is whoever is ahead after the corner, but before it, its up to the drivers to leave each other room and take the fastest line with respect to this.

You may as well just force everyone to stay in their grid positions till after turn 1 or 2 and in single-file, for what good it will do.

By all means, practicing the starts and getting everyone more aware of their surroundings and all the possible lines and incidents is definitely a great idea. But I don't think you can really put a rule to turn 1 without completely nullifying the open-marketness of the race start.

I dont think a 1 lap practice race will help in anyway IMO, Ive thought of doing 3 lap practice races before each event in leagues we run but we decided it isnt a practical solution.

In 3 to 4 races...i would assume we would know each other much better on track and first corner incidents will be a thing of the past..I believe we should race as normal :)

Tom only meant literally everyone behind the leader (whoever is first into turn one) is required to brake early. It's not an order, it's just a practical piece of advice as I got the impression people were braking for turn one at Bahrain at their normal braking points or even later than usual to try and out-brake each other which is never going to work. I've witnessed plenty of races where the whole grid makes it through turn one unscathed so it's definitely possible.

Ah fair enough, but I think its unlikey you'll see many turn 1s without incidents. Everyone has a lot to gain at the start, and because you have 12 cars all in one corner is obviously difficult to keep track of everyone.
It is a bit silly though if you get lots of people going super-deep into turn 1, now that is rediculous.

...I was doing pretty well in first race until we all got disconnected..

Second race was just dreadful..Got tagged in first corner, had a bit of an incident with BMW driver [Internet user?] on lap 3/4..we were side by side in turn 10?, i was sticking to my line around the outside and suddenly i got hit and we collided..he spun..i kinda survived [I felt i was being squeezed into the wall and that is why i did not wait up]

Lap 11, pitted for intermediates as it started to rain pretty heavily.. foolish decision as i was lapped by the top 5 a couple of laps later..If that wasnt bad enough..got disqualified in the end

Havent had a race as bad as that for a while :)

yeah dude, wasn't happy about that. It's all a blur to me to be honest and I don't remember exactly what happened but maybe a video upload by someone can clarify it.

Was the first coming together at turn 12?

The second coming together at turn 13 was definitely not my fault though. I was ahead and didn't even realise you were there looking to dive down the inside. You should of yielded because of course I'm going to to aim for the apex. It was a drag race to turn 13 after we came together and I was ahead so I'm not sure why you thought you could late brake your way into that corner.

Either way you should have waited as per the rules.

I think we need to realise that our perspective is quite limited, 9 to 3 O clock max. Also patience, you can't win a race on the first few laps but you can certainly lose it like I did. I was 7th after that with a mountain to climb which was a shame because I had podium pace today.

P.S. Sorry Douqa for the little punt which sent you wide at turn 9 (?) at the start. Poor racing on my part.

Hey guys. Only have time to say a few words but first of all I want to know what happened to DOUQA. Did he get disconnected or just leave?

I'm considering redoing this race for next week, I feel tonight's race was a real damp squib in the end as it had only 6 finishers.

Could people please let me know what they think of this proposal?

Thanks to those who made it tonight. It was fun but disappointing at the same time :indiff:

Sorry about that mate...it was my fault, going to upload a video soon which shows most of the second race

Well I can't make next week anyway so whatever. Although I'm quite fast at Melbourne so I guess I would lose my points for qualifying 3rd.

First congratulations to shaggy, who was much more faster than anyone else. He started at last and finished first, so really impressive.👍

After start i was first and decided to go on hard tyres early, which was a flop as it starts raining when i came out. So I had to stop again for full wets. I was able to catch numbphase and in last round baumi27. It was a clean and fair race for me in every situation.

Dont know if we should repeat the race due to the fact that only 50% finished

Best regards

Yeah i think we should restart the race. In all honesty the race was kinda dull because of the random grid and players having connection problems

Mutu, Sorry man, In the first race i do not know what happened..I wasn't even aware there was an incident between us :)

No problem, these things happen :)

Did we all change to wet tyres btw? I'm really inexperienced in the wet so I wasn't really sure if I did the right thing by changing.

I was talking all about the 2nd race Gerry.

Inters seemed like the best tyre choice as the track was damp and it wasn't raining too heavily

I think we both made mistakes when we came together :)
Water under the bridge, its all forgotten about

No hard feelings either but there's absolutely no way that you diving down the inside and punting me off into the gavel when I didn't even see you coming is a mistake on my part.

You were off line and behind me :boggled:

But anyway, whatever, what's done is done. I enjoyed driving in the changing conditions, I'm just a bit annoyed because the incident it put me last and massively behind.

I cant recall...punted you off track? Far from it. I was ahead and i was hit after i was squeezed into the wall. You went into the gravel after you slammed into me

Like i said, we both made mistakes
Peace :)

Apologies for not showing up tonight, got carried away working on my car, by the time I finished and got my dinner it was to late to join so sorry on my behalf :(

Sounds like it didn't go to plan anyway :(

Ok, Jamie, thanks for reporting in. I reckon it's best overall if we repeat this race next sunday, so you're gonna get another chance at Melbourne it looks like. The actual racing was immense, but it was rather overshadowed by annoying connection issues and a jumbled up order of events.

We started the race but about 7 laps in 3 drivers got disconnected, so we restarted with a random grid on just a 40% race because of time constraints. Still, Nev got disconnected again in the re-run and DOUQA left too (most likely d/c, but i'm not sure). Jerry also got disqualified, how did this happen btw Jerry?

Sorry to read about your yesterday's unsuccessful race. On the other hand, I'm glad that maybe I had an opportunity to go in Australia. It's hard to decide what to do in this situation. If all agree, I am pleased with this opportunity.

@Shaggy My son had a wonderful birthday :dunce: and was very happy. Guests also good fun, because they were almost 10 pm.

Hey Shaggy, don't think I can edit the video unless I have some decent free software, can you recommend any?

Oh and I deleted the first video by accident so I can only upload the second video which is almost 2 hrs long :ill:

And I don't know if I can record the re-run in melbourne on sunday so i'll leave it down to dark :)

OK I think it's decided that we'll be doing a re-run of the Australian GP. No one seems to have anything against the idea.

Unfortunately Internet_User won't be able to make it this time, but conversely upuaut and Jamie who couldn't make it last night should hopefully be there this time.

We shant bother with the 1 lap practice race this time as I feel we all are getting to know each other a bit better. Also, I like the unpredictability of the race start - ideally I don't want it rehearsed. See you all again for a repeat same time on Sunday 👍

So does that mean that the championship is 1 week behind, because I presume that we won't be racing in Malaysia as well?

hi there,

ok so we are going to repeat the race its fine for me and I think it was a nice practice session. Little hint for disconnecting problems. Dont use WLAN, I often get disconnected with wlan so im always using LAN in championship.

Best regards
