7th GTP F1 World Championship (F1 2010 edition) * SEASON FINISHED :'''( *F1 2010-2016

I'd rather not have headsets - they're too distracting.Anyway It's pretty easy to spot people behind you as long as you're looking at the minimap every once in a while.

If you're getting lapped, just make it obvious that you are yielding and do it on a straight where possible.

You know, I would give it a try by watching the real t-cam footage of a lap on Youtube and practicing without a racing line at all.

I find racing lines and watching for the signal to brake actually hurts you a lot when learning a circuit.

Let alone during a race where drivers rely on the racing line to pick their braking points, and overshoot and hit the car in front because they werent looking for it.

I hear you Mike, I usually use the line when learning a circuit, I find it helps me pick out reference points for braking, especialy when there aren't markers leading up to a corner. Once I have them, I turn off the line and am usually ok. Monaco is escaping me currently.

Plus when in a pack, the line is covered by the vehicles, lol.

Can I join the race tonight? What time is it going to be? I got my DFGT out yesterday and started a new career and done incredibly well at bahrain with the DFGT. Ill get practicing at monaco in a bit. PSN is scoop2004 (some people already have me from F1:CE

Further evidence from Hamilton and Di Resta that moves up the inside of Loews hairpin should be avoided. Just forget about it.

I noticed Barrichello tended to let people past at the top just after Casino, which seems a good place to let people past for the backmarkers. 👍 I'd much prefer this to be letting past further down into Mirabeau.
And I think we also learnt quite clearly today that any overtake requires the other driver to see and let you through. Otherwise you get what happened to Maldanado or even Massa.

Also, Di Resta (and Schumacher) displayed that its very easy to run too close to the car ahead.

Is headset wearing permitted for this race Ben?

So long as you have a mute function on your headset then yes of course, you're encouraged to do this. There's nothing more distracting though than the sound of someone driving around and hearing all the expletives at the various mistakes though

We have a full house and we already have reserve drivers who would be first in line to stand in tonight. If you'd like to be a reserve driver I could sign you up.

I have been racing the AI on my own and boy Manaco is tough!

Congrats to Vettel for winning the real one.

Have good race guys!

Well i've been going through front wings like there's no tomorrow in practice but who knows, maybe i'll get lucky....

Just letting you guys know, my connection has been really dodgy the past couple of weeks so don't be surprised if I disconnect or have to quit due to lag as I don't want to cause an accident, this issue for me will be sorted by Tuesday as I'm getting a new router :).

Hopefully it doesn't happen jordy. Speaking of new equipment, my new pc is working great, should be no issues recording this time, hopefully I don't run out of front wings :)

Feeling better about the race now, I certainly won't be up front though! Thanks for the words Mike, appreciated.

I think that Ken and I are about to have a quick 20% practice if you're up for it?

Well quite an okay practice with James and Ken, I led for most of the race thanks to James breaking his front wing and being dropped back to last, however on lap 13, I crashed and broke my front wing! Thinking that I could limp home I carried on regardless but unfortunately I stuffed it and destroyed my car! :grumpy: 🤬

Fan-****ing-tastic! 🤬 so bloody annoyed, on the first lap there was a major incident involving about 6 cars and I ran into the back of Ardius which meant I had to pit for a new front wing....that's fine, no bother however in my exuberance to catch up I carried too much speed into the chicane and under-steered off into the barrier, I'm really dissapointed but I guess i'm the only person to blame, oh and just out of interest, who crashed into me at the start? Not that it matters now anyway........

Internet user you really need to be more aware of what's behind you me and dark were in a very intense battle for second no more than .2 of a second between us for 27 laps its just so difficult to pass when were going similar speed, but you did NT move out the way for several laps and in the end causing me and dark to come together both losing our front wings cause we were trying to pass you out of fustration I guess.maybe dark would like to say afew words about it but it totally ruined our battle.Anyway nice battle dark I really enjoyed it.

Destroyed my car. All I can say is I'm looking forward to this new router, might actually finish a race then lol. Avoided the incident at Turn 1 and then had to make 2 pit stops due to mistakes, surprisingly kcheeb wasn't miles ahead so I started clawing him in till he eventually had to pit and I got ahead, I made another mistake and had to pit again, my team mate got ahead so it was just a drive from then on.

I was only involved in 1 incident, with Internet_User, it was my fault and I apologise. The only reason I was going so slow was because you were right behind me at the hairpin so I decided that before the tunnel I would let you through, it seemed most logical but it turned out you were actually quite far back so by the time you reached me I was right on the racing line instead of at the side of the track. It was my fault, I should have have been looking at the circuit map before I slowed. Other than that I think I let most people through fine, Shaggy would probably be the best judge as he went past me about 6 times lol. If I did cause an accident, please realise it was down to lag and not on purpose/stupid.

Came into the thread to discuss this and apologise.

there was a massive glitch in the race because on my screen it was saying I was in 2nd place! I can't remember exactly when this happened but around lap 10-ish something happened and I was in 2nd place. I assumed that you had some major mishap or coming together in the pits or something, because I didn't see anything on track. Anyway, when you came round to lap me I thought I was defending my 2nd place position.

Really really sorry about this, but I honestly thought I was defending my position.

This game is strange.

No worries Jordy.

Fourth place in your very first Monaco Grand Prix. Congratulations.
Yeah, it feels great to be able to bring home some solid points for Benetton. I was sad to hear over the radio that Dark didn't make it to the end of the race, he was having a good drive. To drop from a fifth place start and then claw my way back and survive - hell of a difficult track.

You had quite a scrap with Ardius for a lot of the race.
We were battling for position all afternoon. I was able to drive defensively and keep him in my mirrors, but actually made a huge mistake and let him through while I was letting a leader by. I wasn't making any significant dents in his advantage after my pit, despite being on option tires for my second stint. I put the car in cruise and tried not to make any driving errors to end my day early.

Is there anything you wish you'd done differently strategy-wise?
Well the car was set up with too much downforce and we had comparatively much less speed on the straights. In hindsight I would have also started on options. The plan was to hold track position for as long as possible and pit late, but the car just wasn't fast enough to hang on to my starting position. Still extremely not only to have finished, but to almost clinch a podium.

Home Grand Prix next? Ready?
Absolutely.

Its funny you should say that because that's what I experienced last week it also to me that I was in first place last week 36 secs ahead of shaggy,I think something weird is going on.
I'm sorry if I came over abit annoyed if you did NT even see us then fair enough.I don't know what's going on but racing with lag issues like this is a joke.me and dark were in a very intense battle to be ruined by your car but you were NT actually really there that is shocking.it explains why you did NT let us by you just did NT know.

Hey don't worry about it, I would be well and truly pissed if I were in your position. I really hope that they sort these issues in F1 2011 because that has essentially ruined a race between you two.

I'm glad that everyone had a good race, just annoyed that I didn't finish the grand prix still Canada on Sunday! :)

Hi there,

really nice duel with pipeslice. Congrats to Shaggy awesome race with superb concentration!!!
Yeah the issue with Internet User was strange. We should check on video.
Can anybody give me access to an ftp server cause my vid is 1.4 GB big, but the quality is not so good and youtube make it much worser.

Best regards

Wow, just wow. I'm very pleased to finish on the podium in Monaco! I'm pretty elated after that race, the result made up for my mistakes last race in Spain. :D

Qualifying went terrible, my worst qualifying session I've ever had as pretty much I started my first hot lap and clipped the inside corner at Casino which destroyed the car and ended my session with 14 minutes left. No time set and last place on the grid. So I had to wait and watch the rest of the session which saw everyone set a time and leave me in last. Totally my own mistake and I had attacked the first lap far too cautiously that I took so little speed that I turned in too much. Its ironic that I was trying to put some clean laps in and avoid a crash by pushing too hard but I ended up pushing too little and crashing as a result.
At this point I decided it was going to be a long race and got myself in the mindset of just being patient and avoiding crashing. I opted for the Prime tyres to start the race on, because I know an accident was highly likely in the early laps and I was likely to have suffered minor damage that would have cost a lot of time in a pit stop replacing front wings, etc. I felt it was better to run long and drop all the race pressure so that my in and out laps for my potentially slower pit stop were easier.

My start was great, I'd actually not given it full beans just so I could wait and let the field flow through turn 1 but even then I was still going fast enough to overtake NERVUS-PL and someone else that I can't remember right now. In turn 1 there was 4 (!!!!) drivers going into the turn, so I made it 5 and cut into the inside of Baumi27 to end up 6th or 7th after the first corner. 11th to 7th :D. I ended up behind kcheeb for the rest of lap 1 until the drop into Portier, where someone in the Red Bull had spun and kcheeb stopped dead in front of me. Apologies to kcheeb as I slammed the brakes on but still touched and spun him slightly, which led to tombrooks shunting me behind too and giving me the unfair 10 second penalty for blocking which stayed till the end of the race. I got going again but NERVUS had taken advantage of the mess at Portier and was ahead going through the tunnel, but braked way way too early for the chicane and I got past again on the brakes.
I was then running in clean air for several laps before catching Baumi27 who had spun at Anthony Noghes. He quickly caught me back up on the following lap and I decided to let him past at Casino as I knew he was much faster than me, he was my teammate and I didn't want the added distraction of keeping track of him. He quickly pulled out a gap and overtook mikethehockeyfan. At this point I was running 7th again as tombrooks had pitted for a wing (I think), kcheeb had spun somewhere and NERVUS and jordy were a good way behind.
I caught mikethehockeyfan pretty fast in the following laps but was stuck behind him. The next 20 laps were a nightmare, because mike was suffering from serious lag issues where his car was bouncing all over the track, into the air sometimes! It made it impossible to judge where he really was and how much I should brake, so I decided to keep conservative and pray his richochet-ing car didn't hit me! Eventually Shaggy came around to lap us and I let him past after the Nouvelle chicane and followed him through the final sector. mikethehockeyfan decided to let Shaggy past on the inside into the final corner but in doing so let me past too! I couldn't believe my luck and tried to build a gap and keep mike behind me but eventually made one of several braking errors into St Devote and had to use the escape road, which let him through again. I spent several laps following him until he eventually made a second mistake, going wide into Mirabeau. I then held a small lead over him until he span at the final corner and then later had to pit, leaving me on my own.
During this time there was also a moment where DarkPSI and pipeslice caught me in sector 3. I decided to let them past just after Rascasse by staying wide and letting them through on the inside, which was kind of accidental as Dark had already chosen that line to overtake anyway. Unfortunately this seemed to catch out pipeslice who hit me but no harm caused it seemed. Apologies to pipeslice if it did - but I had no where to go after Dark was on my inside.
From then on it was simply a matter of not making serious mistakes, having my last pit stop and finishing the race. During this time there was no less than 6 or 7 retirements both in front and behind me which is what eventually elevated me from 6th to 3rd place. I made a few more mistakes, running wide at Nouvelle and having to use the escape road a few times at St Devote but nothing serious.

All in all a decent Monaco GP for me, I kind of enjoyed the fight with mikethehockeyfan but it wasn't really fun with his car flying around all over the place! I also had a heart-in-mouth moment when I came out of the tunnel one time to find kcheeb's Ferrari going very slowly down to the chicane and I ended up having brake wide and flying through the chicane!

Qualified: N/A Started: 11th
Finished: 3rd
Average race laptime: 1'19.xxx
Biggest mistake: Destroying my car in qualifying, getting involved in the shunt at Portier lap 1, several missed braking points at St Devote.
Favourite moment: Going 5-abreast into turn 1, going from 11th to eventually 6th, crossing the line for the podium :D.

So er, yeah, ignore the penalty on the results screen guys, as it was because of the kind of humourous multi-shunt at Portier on lap 1. Reminded me of Irvine-Salo-Hakkinen 1996.

Apologies for that, one of the 4 or 5 times I took the front wing off. Without the wing, it's very easy to make a big mistake here, so I was keeping the speed down and trying to be out of the way.

No problem! I understand totally as I've been in the same position, it was just a bit of a shock for me . Sorry for the tap at Portier!

I had a bad feeling this would happen to several drivers tonight and so it did. Take this as a lesson for Montreal, Valencia and Singapore which are all to come and all likely to result in a few nasty shunts. Hard luck anyway mate, and chin up, you didn't get any practice at the most difficult track in the game so it's nothing to be ashamed of, and as you can see by the race reports, we only actually had 5 finishers out of 11 so you had plenty of company

You showed good awareness and never once got in the way, no complaints from me at all:tup:

Could someone help Dark with this? I'm no help when it comes to that sort of thing.

I double checked the rules and as I suspected, if a driver completes 90% of the race distance then their final position stands, so provided you made it as far as lap 35 then I believe you earn 8 points for 6th position. We'll need to double check with the videos though if you don't mind. I doubt anyone else made it this far who didn't finish though.

Amazing reading back at everyone's race reports as I was oblivious to all this carnage behind me. So, did the 5 abreast into turn one thing actually work without any major incident?!

I don't know as I was on the inside for it. I say 5, one person went down the escape road for St Devote I think, one person backed out of it and it was me, Baumi in the middle and someone else on the outside through the corner.
For all I know there was a big accident on the outside, but all I remember is reaching the braking point and there being several cars going into the turn at the same time and I saw a gap on the inside and took it. I then had Baumi on my left who backed out of running side by side up the hill. After that I focused on the corners ahead so I don't know happened to everyone else at turn 1.
Everyone was driving so slowly and cautiously that it was easy.

I competed Lap 32, so I'm out for sure. I know Dark went out before my last lap, but he was a few ahead of me. His lap counter would be the best indication.

I can post the first couple of laps pretty quickly, the rest of my race was pretty much, drive, turn, get out of the way :)
