7th GTP F1 World Championship (F1 2010 edition) * SEASON FINISHED :'''( *F1 2010-2016

Hello Jerry, just finished the race. I'm sorry you missed it. We did wait for nearly 10 mins but at that stage you still hadn't added us so we began. By the time I got a message from you we were 10 minutes into qualifying, and as i've stated in the original post, any more than 5 mins and we press on. I understand this is regrettable but we have to bear in mind that there are some racers on tight schedules who have to be finished on time or else it affects whatever else they're doing after our race has finished.

I hope this doesn't put you off and I look forward to racing you next week.

I'll post my thoughts on the event probably tomorrow as i've things to do now.

Thanks obviously to everyone who took part, it was very good fun.

Strange, i've honestly never noticed this Ardius. I have heard people saying that the Red Bull is the car which all the online cars are based on. This makes sense as on occasion i'm able to go faster online than I can in time trial mode, and I think this is because certain circuits are faster with the Red Bull whereas most are faster in the McLaren.

We'll press ahead with things as they are because I don't see that there's a lot that can be done if indeed cars do have different performance.

Well, if it was a significant difference, I would recommend setting the car selection by random or reverse-championship positions. But I don't think its that massive a difference.

I'm very sure there is a difference though, even if the laptimes are close/the same, the feel of the cars and their setups seem different. The Lotus was most definitely hitting the revlimiter with the default setup, so something there is not right. It might be that simply all the cars are the same physics model (Red Bull or whatever) but they still have their original default setups, which in the instance of the Lotus, Virgin and HRT, are obviously too slow.

I have noticed that the cars provided in the Quick Race online mode are significantly faster than any others in the game. Probably because there is no fuel simulation.

I need to research and test the differences in fuel consumption though.

I enjoyed that. Good to get a full race under the belt and the experience will definitely put me in better shape for next weekend.

I've learned that I need to be far more consistent. It took me half the race to finally get any semblance of pace and I managed to pull my way back to 4th. I enjoyed the battle with Numbphase, especially our fuel saving racing towards the end haha.

My tank went yellow 4 laps til the end so I was short shifting like crazy in cruise mode to try and ration my remaining fuel. At this point I was ahead. However I made a mistake coming into that tricky left hander leading onto the back straight and Numb took 4th. I managed to get close to him at turn one and it was then that I realised he had ran out of fuel as his engine was stuttering. I think I lasted until the back straight until my engine completely cut out but it was enough in the end.

Need to sort that out because that is potentially catastrophic if it happens in a proper race.

Anyway good stuff. Some of the backmmarkers could have been a bit more helpful in pulling over but otherwise from that it was some good stuff.

No probs Alonso :)
And regards to your previous post, Am i correct in thinking ill be standing in for Jamie for the first four races?
Thanks

That was a fun practice race. I and someone else (maybe a Mercedes?) escaped the first corner unscathed and I found myself in second place, briefly. For some reason I was having a lot of trouble with turn 14 for the first few laps, which cost me a few positions. After I got settled in I started putting in some good laps and passed Internet_User in the pit stops. I had a really good battle with Baumi for a lap or two but then he dropped way back, not sure what happened to him. I turned my engine down on lap 18 to try to get to the end of the race without running out of fuel, but this let Internet_User catch up pretty quickly so I had to turn it back to standard. Like he mentioned we had a good few laps of close racing which gradually got slower and slower as we both were running out of fuel. I eventually ran out in the first sector of lap 25 and crossed the line in 5th.

I've tried everything I can think of to make it to the end of the race without running out of fuel, except running on cruise the whole race. I think I'll just have to accept the fact I can't finish at Bahrain and keep a decent pace for the whole race.

Either way, it was still a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the real thing next Sunday.

That was a fantastic race last night, I would very pleased if that was the outcome of the real race. I qualified 4th, but I thought I had 3rd in the bag but I think Dark put in a lap to move ahead of me. I was pretty pleased with 4th, and how close I was to Baumi's and Shaggy's times, as I thought I would be further off the pace.

Into the race, and I played it safe into turn 1, and went slowly down the inside which meant I avoided the turn 1 crash, and I was gifted the lead. I think it must of been NumbPhase behind me as I was in the Mercedes. I kept a good lead over him, and slightly pulled out a gap, but Shaggy and Dark were hot on his heels and managed to get past and they closed the gap to me in about 5 laps after the pit stops. I tried to put up a decent fight but Dark got through, however, on the next lap or 2 I was on his tail, but then he pulled away into the distance. I then had Shaggy to deal with, but he got by and I stayed relatively close to him. I had a plan, and it worked, as I switched my engine up to fast for the final 2 laps, and overtook Shaggy on the the 2nd to last straight which was great and managed to finish 2nd.

A nice clean race I think, maybe a little more help from the backmarkers would of been helpful as I had a drag race with one of them down to turn 1 :P

I'll upload the photos later today.

Great stuff, yes you'll be covering for Jamie in those races as you're now Jordan's reserve driver.

Good race Nev, your pace is vastly improved since we last practiced 👍 And your plan did work, albeit I ran out of fuel just as you were coming up behind me before the last corner :(

The absolute star of the show though had to be darkpsi. Would I be right in saying he qualified 4th or 5th? Yet his race pace was unbelievable, I really was struggling to keep up. Funnily enough, about 15 laps in I decided to take my head set off as I was finding it very distracting and I seemed to find half a second a lap from there on in. He was getting held up by back markers and did battle with Nev for longer than I did - if it hadn't been for this I think he would have been long into the distance.

I think my best case scenario would be a 2nd place finish at this event. it's going to be a lot more competitive than I thought. Dark, Baumi, Nev and myself were all running at very similar pace and I know vavie_krk is a fast racer, although he didn't show up last night.

One thing I would add is that it is ridiculous that Nev had to do a drag race against a backmarker to get through, this just shouldn't be happening. Could everyone please be aware of this and always slow up for a car lapping you?

Gotta go here.

haha I had a few drag races too. Thought it was funny b/c it was only a practice race but I hope that doesn't happen on Sunday.

That's two 50% races I've done now. In the first one I was able to get finished before my tank turning red but in this race I was half a lap short. I think it's less to do with having the engine turned up and more to do with driving style and not wheel spinning so much.

Can't wait for Sunday now.

When I mentioned the really fast racers, I'd just like to add that DOUQA is definitely on that level but I'm guessing he didn't have much practice coming into this. He should be further up the front come next sunday. Also James and Numb are nipping at the heels as well - gonna be a really closely fought contest this! :D

Was quite amazing that Dark, Nev and I finished within about 5 seconds of each other. It was almost like a tug of war, trying to close the gap only for your opponent to pull it out again, love it! My girlfriend remarked how red my face was after the race, that's how hard I was focusing!

I look forward to seeing Dark's vid that he's taken and also the pics that Nev will upload of the final results 👍

With my very limited online racing I can also confirm the above. I was able to complete a 40% and 50% online race at Bahrain with the engine set to Fast for the entire race without running out of fuel.

I cannot wait for Sunday, should've got some decent practice with my wheel then :)

Hey guys,

it was a great race on sunday and i can't wait for next sunday. I think repeating the win i had in practice session will be very difficult because the race was very competitive.
I had a lot of fuel at the end (yellow lamp blinked on half of last round). So fuel comsumption can be managed definitely.

I recorded the whole race with cam, here is a little tase of the first round. Hadnt enough time to cut the whole thing yet.
Enjoy

Thanks for posting that Dark 👍

Just a couple of comments to make; the incident at the first corner really shouldn't have happened. Baumi seemed to go down a bit of a blind alley and into a gap that was always going to disappear. But there seemed to be a lot of contact behind Dark as well. Also manios crashed into Douqa at turn 4 which I witnessed first hand but watching again, this shouldn't have happened. I know that people aren't actively trying to crash into each other, but I'm not sure that everyone is actively trying to avoid crashing into each other. Please always bear this in mind and race as cleanly as possible.

I'm sure things will go smoother on sunday 👍

Trying to make turn 1 clean isn't easy though, the only thing I would say is downright silly is diving into turn 1 from the back of the grid. But the front rows of the grid are pretty much fair game as its difficult to nail the braking and keep track of all 11 other drivers around you, personally I'm fairly lenient to being taken out there as I understand its easy to get lost in the chaos. There isn't much room as far as "racing ettiquette" is concerned (e.g. who wins the corner? how can you tell if someone else has taken a dominant line? what if somoene runs the wide line, should you always give room?). Its also difficult to apportion outright blame to one driver sometimes.
The only place where "who has the racing line" is fairly straight forward is Monaco and that is the least orderly race start ever, only takes one person to mess up at the front and it screws half the grid.

I'd call Turn 1 the definition of "racing incident" - all drivers are to blame, but not individually, as a whole. Not that we shouldn't try to avoid incidents as much as possible, but I think hoping for a completely clean turn 1 is optimistic at best, everyone tries to win the race at turn 1.

Hey Dark, nice video! just a shame I lost it coming out of the hairpin otherwise I was in for a good race...still there's always this sunday :)

Sorry about how late they are, but here are the qualifying and race results from the practice race on Sunday: (Sorry some of the pics are a bit hard to see)

Qualifying:

Race:

I was so pissed off that I couldn't get a good laptime in :(

Yeah I can't keep up with Ben. Jjust did a cheeky quali session and managed a 1:53 something. I'll be quite happy to sacrifice pace for consistency though.

Just went round bahrain using manual gears doing a 1:55.771

Thanks guys 👍

Same as before, hoping to begin the race by 19:30 so please be available 5-10 mins before this.

How'd your championship showdown go then, upuaut? :)
