It's pretty much like I expected during qualifying; Audi's pace is just too fast for Toyota to make up for it with their fuel consumption.

McNish in the pits, and he stays in the car like the badass he is.

I sincerely don't want Toyota to lose the race because of technical issues, but I guess that's what differentiates them from Audi: they're just not bullet-proof enough. Audi showed in 2010 (oops, now remember how 2010 was, I stand corrected regarding one of my past comments, it was indeed an Audi walkover in the end) that they can force an opponent to break their cars and emerge unscathed.

Hardly a walkover for Audi in 2010 and it's not gonna be a walkover or a parade today. Though, I entirely agree, we need more LMP2/GT coverage.

Of course, I was being facetious - most years lately is has been an Audi walkover, but Peugeot at least put up a fight in 2010/11 - in fact 2010 was the first time I'd ever seen someone thrashing the Audis for pace, until they all blew up in spectacular fashion.

Yeah, definitely need more class coverage. Especially when LMP1 is essentially Audi and a few support acts. P2 and the GTE classes provide very close racing throughout the 24 hours most years.

EDIT: Just notice you've corrected yourself. Man this comments feed runs too fast for me to keep up! Yeah it was an Audi walkover in the end by default sadly, but at least Peugeot made them work for it.

Try and follow the other 3 classes then, I know it not that easy because its not spoon fed to you on TV, but give it a go you just might like it.
Problem is I can't follow a 24h race on a lap time monitor. Eurosport should focus 15 minute on each cleass instead of 23h of LMP1.

Probably just some electrical issue.. Seems like when the car was about to lose it again, the engine was still running, just no drive. An ECU reset did fine but hopefully no more of it later in the race.

We need another team like Peugeot to stop Audi's dominance... Since 2010 it seems they're only winning, everywhere.

It might not be what you want to see, but the LMP1 class are those fighting for the overall win of the race, so they're obviously going to get more coverage. They only tend to switch between classes when there's a good battle going on or if there's nothing happening in LMP1, which is happens quite often.

Wait until it hits the night time, you'll get hours worth of GT scraps.

Grand-Am do quite a good job of splitting coverage between the DP and GT classes, but I guess they only have 2 main classes to cover rather than 4. But still, it's normally about a 2/3rd split between covering DP and GT.

At 18:00 there will be news about Aston #95 and @AllanSimonsen 's situation. #24lm #wec #fiawec #lemans

They didn't get an invitation I suppose.. If you want to enter the Le Mans 24 Hours, you must get an invitation from the A.C.O.

EDIT: The Le Mans use GTE cars which is similar to GT2 cars. The Z4 and SLS are GT3 cars...

There is a Z4 GTE car that runs in ALMS

I went for a look to find more info about the slick intermediate tyres:

French tyre company, Michelin, which has recorded a record 14 consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans today announced a new ‘slick intermediate’ tyre designed specifically for LMP1 hybrid prototypes. The new innovation is a slick tyre which can run in damp conditions and replaces the intermediate, patterned tyres of the past.

Michelin’s new hybrid tyre is the fruit of much work by the firm’s engineers to optimise the operating window of its tyres, that is to say the spectrum of temperatures and conditions across which they are capable of performing. The work has been carried out in association with both Audi and Toyota who will be the first teams to benefit from the new technology.

Serge Grisin, Manager of Michelin’s Four Wheel Motorsport programme, said this evening, “We wanted to develop a tyre which will lead to an evolution in performance, energy and efficiency. The new hybrid slick looks exactly like a slick tyre and will be identifiable by its two Michelin stickers instead of the one usually seen. We are looking for a tyre which will give maximum performance and longevity without any trade-off between the two areas. This tyre will meet the requirements of both the Audi and Toyota hybrid LMP1 cars, and it is also available to the Audi R18 ultras.”

Because of the exceptional length of the 14km circuit used for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it is not rare for drivers to come across different conditions at opposing parts of the track. Changeable weather complicates the strategic challenge that teams face during a race, as do varying temperatures and humidity levels, and Michelin is confident this new tyre will meet all those challenges.
