It's now official..@AllanSimonsen past away in the bad crash right after start. All our thought go out to Allan and his family :( #24lm #wec

Eurosport made it official.

Could be worse. Much worse.

Fox Sports 3 is taking a 3 hour break from Le Mans to show stupid Nascar Nationwide.

In the states ESPN has the Nationwide races. In 2 hours SPEED (Fox owned, soon to become Fox Sports 1 in August - less racing) will cut away for Cup qualifying and Speed Center. Then back to Le Mans uninterrupted. This is the most coverage Fox (SPEED) has ever had! And it will be the last time. Fox Sports 1 is going to be more competitive with ESPN, that's not a good thing for race fans.

21 1/2 hours of coverage is STELLAR!!!

Damn, damn.

Really sad to watch this kind of things happen. We all know this is a dangerous sport, and we love it for that, but it's always heartbraking when things go sour.

We definitely need a better explanation of the incident now.

This is something I didn't want to happen :(

This will put a bleak mood on the rest of the race. Especially in the Aston Martin garage...

Oh my God.

Remember watching Simonsen making cameos in the V8 Supercars with Greg Murphy and other races at Bathurst.

I'm numb. Feels too soon after Dan Wheldon...and on his birthday too.

:(

Just goes to show that Motor Racing is always on the fine line and no matter how safe you think it is, things still can happen. Rest in peace Simonsen

I've watched Alan drive many times in British GT and he's a great gt driver, such a big loss to GT racing.

RIP.

Onboard footage from behind Simonsen's car. Search for the video on YT.
He just went to the left, mechanical failure I think? I don't know much about this, you guys should know more.

What a way to mark Aston Martin's 100th anniversary.

I have to say, I saw something was up. If it impacted on the passenger side, why was 1 door also heavily damaged hanging off on the other? I reckon the car went in backwards, hence the split barrier, and perhaps it penetrated the car (Like Kubica's accident).

RIP Allan Simonsen.
