A Letter to Polyphony.

Are you suffering the same issue?

What is the issue then? If I am wrong about evrything, tell me what is right?
What ever you don't say is right according to your logic. ;)

The problem is probably a small development team. PD doesn't outsource assets either, so everything is done by that one development team.

And that is their choice and we are justified in criticizing the results of that choice. They also have arguably the highest dev budget of any racing game ever, so choosing to remain smaller and more family like is highly debatable.

Agreed... It seems very odd. Maybe Kaz has some kind of non-practical reason, like he just wants his game to remain humble or something. Beats me.

When gt7 comes out most people will buy that regardless of the problems in the past.

Remind me, how well did GT6 sell?

I don't think your assumption that "GT sells because it's GT" holds up.

Gt marketing will make the 7th game sell, the brand is too strong.

A brand is only as strong as it's perceived to be.

What happened to Nokia? Blackberry? Sega? Kodak?

Having a historically strong brand is not immunity from that ever changing. If you fail to keep up with changing technology, your brand will suffer.

Where is all the money going? What are they spending it on if not staff?

Nobody knows.

We know that they gave approximate figures for the budget for GT5. They were very high, at the time the most expensive game ever made if I recall.

And we know roughly what the size of PD was from credits and their corporate website. They are very vocal about not outsourcing. So while we know that T10 has an even smaller core team, T10 also inflates themselves with contractors where necessary. Other big devs like Rockstar or Naughty Dog are much, much larger than Polyphony.

You could assume that the average salary at Polyphony is much, much, much higher than at any other studio, but that probably doesn't say good things about their management either. A kitchen can only use so many cooks. At some point you just need someone to clean the floors and take out the garbage, and you don't need to be paying someone $200k to do that.

A logical reason, in my opinion, is that they may be focusing on GT7 and most of the expenditure is sitting over in that field and what ever is remaining on their budget they will be spending on small updates to GT6. If you get what I mean? 👍

I think that could be right actually. Might be a little too hopeful.

Before QM was launched, there were usually only 100-200 open lobbies active worldwide for GT, not sure how many private lobbies there were of course. I used to count them in GT5 as well and at it's peak it was around 300-400 max. At an average of around 8 participants that's not very big numbers to deal with at all. Many games are in the hundreds of thousands. I fully expect Project Cars to exceed those numbers pretty soon after release seeing as how the game is all about racing online and off, and all cars are available from the start.

Earlier renditions of COD used to actually tell you how many people were online and in lobbies. Ghosts was (when released) anywhere from 50k-125k on PS4 and previous games on PS3 were anywhere from 250k-350k!!!! At 8-12 people per lobby that is a lot of rooms to run and of course we had the expected lag issues. BUT (and this is a huge but) tracing bullet trajectories, people movement and objects is lot more involved that 16 cars running around a track and they (on a good day) coped reasonably well.

So my point is other franchises can cope with the numbers so why can't PD? Oh that's right, Kaz wants to see grass moving in the breeze, birds flying around, vapour trails from aircraft, trees moving, two dimensional crowd figures walking around etc, etc :-(

Don't a few games already have that capability? :odd:

The game of coarse. Odd questioning it from a "professional software developer".

No need to be rude mate.

This is my point exactly, there isnt enough money budgeted for gt6, to finish it, fix it and maintain online services. The focus is on gt7.

Wasn't trying to be rude. It is quite questioning that if you were a Professional Software Developer, you didn't know how would the money be spent.

They could be working on GT7 but they can't leave GT6 dead until they release everything they promoted to us. I don't know much about law, but wouldn't it be false advertising if there was no Coarse Maker after all.

Yes it would be false advertising but unless they come out and actually say that Course Maker won't be a feature (with an excuse, of course) then yeah a lot of people may consider taking it up with the law. Or, at least they should. 👍

It's the purpose of these forums. Speak your mind, share your thoughts. You have no idea what they are working on and what their priorities are and no idea whether communication in this area is beneficial or not. How about we just let people share their thoughts and let PD and Sony decide whether it's worthwhile or not?
(I don't know why I didn't get an alert for this, but whatever.)
I'm not saying that @nascarfan1400's opinion on the matter is unwelcome. I mean that this thread may be unnecessary in the sense that PD and Sony probably already know about the issues, so yelling at them won't help a thing. Do you understand now?

I don't think it would be illegal to release a "Coarse" Maker as they never even mentioned it. The "Course" Maker, on the other hand... :P

I understood the first time. You have no idea what PD knows and doesn't know, and more importantly, you have no idea how they prioritize work to be done. We have a method here for letting them know. Create a thread, throw up a bunch of opinions one either side, and hopefully PD and/or Sony takes notice and says, "looks like the community is pretty upset about this issue, maybe we should move it up the priority list". There's a reason why the saying, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease", exists, because it's true.

Hey guys,

I've just opened the account here to add some thoughts about this problems that we're struggling with in game.

We are group of people racing GT5 and GT6 mostly online, but in offline mode too.(now only GT6, because of shutting the servers of GT5). More info here - http://granturismo.chrystyniak.pl/
Every Thursday we gather and try to race each other on a different track. It's our 6th season, and we've never had such problems with game EVER. We've spend lots of time in that game and our frustration is almost at the end of the road.

We've been reporting bugs with online racing since few months and we didn't get a single answer from Sony nor PD.
More of our post you can find here - http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/Gran-Turismo/Gran-Turismo-6-Bug-Reports/m-p/23064914#M160874

With every single update we got much more problems with connecting to the racing lobby and visibility in game that we are ready to give it up.
No one from Sony/PD is listening to what we're saying. We were trying to contact someone from our Polish Support but they don't understand the issue with game and they still need to report the bugs which they don't understand to headquarters in Japan, and we didn't get any response from them at all. I've tried contact someone on Facebook, I just got an information that it has been forwarded to someone.. and no result.

Instead of getting things fixed with game, we get sh**tty and useless B spec or custom painting.
More to that, our racing wheels that we bought are not supported on new generation of consoles.

taking all of that into consideration, I'm no longer loyal Customer and me and my friend we just want to sell our PS3, racing wheels and GT6 and just buy a new Xbox One instead of PS4, just to check if the grass is greener on the other side and to object to what Sony and PD is doing.

This game is no longer fun and definitely we should not be treated like that.

Me and my friends are not buying GT7 for sure, this is not worth it. And definitely that's my last experience with Gran Turismo/Sony series ever.

Sorry for the mistakes, I haven't been using English for a while, but hope you understand what I'm writing about ;)

It's useless really. The Q and A forum should serve as the final example to people that this dev is mute to fan feedback and just does whatever. If you like the formula of GT and don't mind it's issues, i salute you and hope you enjoy the franchise but if you get frustrated by all the weird design decisions and extremely long waits for things to get sorted, you better switch because i can assure you; the grass is a lot greener on the other side and you won't look back afterwards.

Welcome to GTPlanet and thank you for this first and most informative post:cheers:

Hi guys,

this is my first post. I'm racing with snoopski in league and this is also my first post here.

We really don't know where to write and submit bugs in GT 6 as nowhere noone is listening to what we write :(

It all started with update giving us quick race. Player who was host of most of our races could not be host any more as I couldn't join his room. Network incompatibility - error 1671. We couldn't connect via PS3 chat - error 8002B711. We couldn't join PS4 chat (no error code). But we have no problems in DriveClub or Skype. This informtion is not enough for Polish support team. We where doing lot of things to connect, reseting routers, clearing cache, removing routers and connecting directly to modems (so we both had NAT type 1). Nothing ever helped.

Since then other our friends were hosting our league sessions. Every new GT6 update gave us more bugs. More players were invisible for other players. There were bugs like player X saw player Y but player Y didn't saw player X on the track so player Y could crash player X. Somtimes it took 1 hour of connecting, changing host so most of us could see each other. Once I couldn't see my brother on the track. We both have same ISP, we are neighbors...

We read on other board that setting up fixed-host could solve these problems. And wow, finally a week before 1.16 update, after three months of frustration we all saw each other on the track.

But then 1.16 update came. And... now we cannot join rooms with fixed-host.

Yesterday two of our friends didn't see each other. But after qualification session, when the rece started for one of them car of the other player stayed on the grid for the whole race. Here you can see what happened:

It doesn't matter if we try to race with 11 players, or 6 like yesterday. We have these kind of bugs all the time. There are no answers from the PlayStation support, Gran Turismo team on their official facebook fan page, playstation community board. Instead we can read an ingame message about "b-spec bug". WOW.

So, after years of playing GT we probably say goodbye to it. We even won't look at GT7 because we don't believe it will work better.

In era of MMO games, or other games working good online I really can't understad what's happening to Gran Turismo. :(

Edit: we all have NAT type 2. We do not have online problems in other games. Some of us have very fast ISP like http://www.speedtest.pl/test/103318233 . Turning off voice chat or changing race quality doesn't help.

Sorry for my English, hope you understand. And sorry for saying hello with post full of frustration, but it I bought PlayStation and driving wheel for that game. So...

@alienisko and @snoopski welcome to GTP. The future is bright if you want to switch to another racing franchise. You don't even have to abandon Playstation as PCARS will arrive on PS4 and there's a good chance that will be the racing game we have all been waiting for. The emphasis isn't on car collecting though, so if you all love collecting cars and expanding your virtual garages i would suggest a switch to Xbone and the Forza series.

I hoped GT5 would have sorted out all the series flaws back when i purchased a PS3 for it in 2010, but the initial game was a disappointment, and hope of improvement faded out in the next years as i only saw GT Academy updates on the news page here, whilst all I wanted was for the main game to improve with updates. It only got worse...
I wanted to see if the grass was greener on the other side having grown up with GT, so in 2012 i bought a Xbox 360 and a copy of FM4, and it was then that i realized how bad GT's game design really is.

So if you want to keep your racing league on consoles but with a GT style game, there is Forza and that will provide a stable online experience (apart from a better game overall). If you just care about good racing then PCARS is the game for you, if you want to stay on PS3 as you don't have the money yet for a new console i would suggest Grid Autosport as that is a PCARS style game, but the physics are more simcade (a lot of fun though), or if you all have enough €€€ you can buy a pc and join the master race, and play real sims like Assetto Corsa, PCARS again, Raceroom or Game Stockcar.

The choice is up to you

Maybe it's an option, but instead of buying new console, new racing wheel I would rather see GT6 just working online. It's not MMO with 64 cars on the grid. We have problems to play with 6 players.

Also what I've started to notice, as Polyphony are adding more and more data into the game i.e. new cars, a new track etc. the old PlayStation's (known as the 'fatties') are starting to not be able to run the game correctly, could this be due to how much of the HDD the PS needs to use just to run the game? I know a few new cars aren't hardly any data whatsoever compared to how much is already on the game but like Kazunori said in the Chapparal VGT video, they had to develop a completely new code to run the 2X and they'd have to code it to run correctly on every different setting and every different track. That must be a lot of data to input into an already large game.

I mean, I'm not an expert or hold expertise in the coding/developing industry, but I know enough about technology to give a rough idea on what is causing these problems.
Nope. I have an original fat PS3 and I don't have issues with running the game and generally my online connection in lobbies is good too, despite having a poor download/upload speed.

Never really had issues with the game either, we must just be luckier than others.

Welcome to GTPlanet and thanks for a stellar first post:cheers:

There are quite a few people here at GTP that share your frustration with GT6 online. I myself couldn't play Bathurst online, early in the game I would lose sound or it would cut in and out, and then a few updates in, the game would just freeze up and I'd have to do a complete reboot to get it going again. After that I just quit any lobby that went to Bathurst which kind of sucked because I really enjoyed the track. And my connection is/was rock solid in GT5 and just about everywhere else in GT6, and in pc racing games I've had no issues in fields with more than 20 cars.

I can't see it getting any better on the PS3 so I'd suggest, as @mister dog does, find another game on the PS3 to play or make the jump to PS4, XBone or PC racing.

I add my e-mail that I send to every support of Sony.
Mostly I was redirected to polish support again(which can do nothing), I got some mails with reseting routers, changing DNS etc, but the most funny answer I got from Italy:

Thanks for your e-mail about GTA 5.

As you might know, games for PlayStation are made by many different companies and that GTA 5 is made by RockStar.

You might find some help with this game on their website at:

http://www.rockstargames.com/

If you're having issues with your console or PlayStation Network, please contact PlayStation Support using the contact details below or by replying to this e-mail.

Most of the Sony support didn't even read what is in the e-mail that I've sent to them sadly..
