Thankyou kindly for the new media Spoony. What distance have you managed to achieve on the Nurburgring with the Falken GTR?

sorry to be bothersome, yet how does it get in the memory card?
there are various ways, the most simple is to use that site's tutorial and burn a cd that installs all the necessary tools onto the memory card - if ur ps2 doesn't read cdr and u don't want to mess around with a swap method (eg. gameshark+cog) then use ur mates' chipped ps2, but once u have the KeyLaucher with all the apps on ur memcard, it's heaven - i can even transfer gamesaves via ftp now :)

Oh and did anyone notice the ability to manually control lots of different camera angles during replays? I don't remember if previous GTs allowed this, but it's available in this demo :) If I remember correctly, these angles used to be done automatically but now it's all manual controls. Press X to change the option, then L1, L2, R1, R2 all give you different combinations of camera angles.

Here's a little clip to show that too heh.

Can you zoom the replay similar to Prologue? I really enjoy that feature during playback.

Thanks Spoony for the great vids!

Rich.

oh u think ur smarter than me

my PS2 sits in LAN with my PC:

- i boot PS2 with Ridge Racer in it and press O
- on PC i start HDL_Dumb, find the ISO and install it
- when done i reboot the PS2 with Ridge Racer in it and press [] to open HD Advance and play ;)

no need BUY anything - no need to have a modchip - no need to take out the HDD :)
ooo, can you give me some more info on this?
Do you have to have a hdd in the ps2(are you playing the game off the hdd in the ps2 or on the computer)?
What programs do you use to set the LAN up between the ps2 and computer?

also does any one know how to get this demo on a cd-r? i know on the bmw demo there's a kit you can get that take out some uneededfiles so it fits, any thing like this for this demo?

What You Will Need:
- Your Playstation 2 – the PS2 that you want this trick to be worked on, modded, or unmodded. It does not matter.
- 1 Playstation 2 that can boot CDR. Example: a modded PS2 or swap disc, or slide card.
- 1 Playstation 2 memory card. At least 2MB free.
- 1 Playstation 2 Network Adapter (hooked up to LAN network with your PC)
- 1 Standard IDE Hard Drive (40 GB or higher, smaller ones might or might not work)
- 1 original PS1 game.
- FTP program. Ex. FlashFXP
- Various objective software – will be described throughout the tutorial.

the full tutorial is here: http://www.ps2ownz.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25800
follow it step by step and don't make any punctuation mistakes - i got it working the 1st time :)

btw this is what pops up when i insert my original PS1 game (i chose Ridge Racer):
PS2KeyLauncher.jpg

- this is the default with that tutorial, u can add stuff later via ftp by pushing /\ and connecting PC to it (memory card transfer)
- O is for setting up game dump server (u press this and on ur PC u start HDL_Dumb and send ISOs to this server)
- [] brings up the HDAdvance menu where u can browse games on ur hdd and play them - loading times are cut in half, i especially dig how San Andreas plays from HDD ;)

PLZ NO MORE ON THIS - WWW.PS2OWNZ.COM FORUMS ARE FULL OF ANSWERS TO ALL THE QUESTIONS!

Ok...i have the demo...and played it..but where do you found that REPLAY video with lancer and animation driver Egghead? (or others?

I only have START and OPTION in the menu...

just wait and the demo replays will start rolling ;)

....

cool, just registered on ps2ownz and read a bunch of threads, but i have to wait 5 days or sumthin...
sorry for being kindof off topic, but do you know of a way to play games off of a hdd that isn't connected in the ps2, but connected via a lan? like hooking up the ps2 to a computer and running a program that allows the game to be run off the hdd on that computer?
I thought that might be cool...i have the new PS2Two (i had a replacement plan thru bestbuy and my old ps2 broke so they gave me the new pstwo)...
if my idea can't work i'll prob just get that usb 2.0 hdd and program that's coming out. but i'd rather not buy another hdd for the ps2.

Is it just me being overly sensative and looking for new things in the demo. But when drafting, or just behind another car going over 100mph, do you get massive understeer and the car becomes "floaty". Like you have loast alot of front downforce. Or when a car comes up behind you and gets near your rear quarter panel, but makes no contact, does your car be come twitchy and unstable (like it would in real life)?

If so looks like PD is adding in all sorts of subtle aerodynamic effects on the cars beyond slip-streaming.

Oh, that does sound impressive.. that's very much the case in real-life when drafting.. with little airflow around the car, downforce is very much reduced. Man, this is definitely looking to be the KING OF ALL RACERS.. hehe.

It's these little details that are going to win out, I think..

Man I wish I didnt read this thread, darn curiousity
I'm loving what i'm reading. Especailly from just above, i've been dying for understeer/push while drafting another car. I wonder if you could get oversteer from having a guy right behind your rear bumper. On a road course that would be hard to do while turning, but on an oval its much easier to do.

Can this demo be purchased or is it only downloadable? I'd defantly buy this just for the sheer heck of it. But D/L'ing it is a definite heck no! I'm on 28k, by the time I get it on my pc GT4 will already be out.

Linky no workie, Spooony.. :(
OMG -___-
The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer.
This is why I hate geocities. 👎 but my isp's new webspace is combined with yahoo geocities now :( I just fixed that link so now it's hosted on yahoo briefcase, let's hope it doesn't die as fast as geocities :P

And here's a quick sample of my photomode shot :)

Please excuse my typos, they are worst than normal. I went back and tried to fix as many as I could but I am half asleep right now. I can barely keep my eyes open. It has been a long day. I think you can get the gist of what I am saying below though. Again sorry for the typos

I went back and spent some more time with the Falken GT-R @ Nurburgring after my post above.

The car becomes unsettled from many things (all comments refer to the Falken GT-R and Nurburgring unless noted);

- Curbs really really unsettled the car, especially if you use them like you could in GT3. I never liked the curb riding that the hot lappers and OLRs used in GT3. Sure it was faster around the circuit but very unrealistic (in 90% of cases). At the Nurburgring if you try to ride the curb GT3 style with your car it becomes very unsettled and you loose the front or back end into the wall. You can cut a tighter line over the curbs, but you can't ride them to be faster or save your butt. Same goes for George V., though less extreme since the speeds are slower. However if you cut too hard accross them your car feels like it bottoms out and skids wide.

- Someone here said the brake are too forgiving? You need to watch brake zones at the nurburgring with the Falken GT-R (race car). Slamming on the brakes at max speed unsettles the car big time. It causes you to zig zag, especially the front end. If you are near the curb you are done and sideways into the wall. If you brake over one of the knolls that set the car into the air you are done too. If you brake too late and really jam it into the corner like you could in GT3 you are done, especially at high speeds.

-Speaking of knolls at the nurburgring. You need to setup for them. In GT3 if you hit a knoll that would send you car into the air (i.e. the two at trial mtn, Seattle, Swiss alps road section) you didn't really have to worry much. The physics of the game wouldn't allow the car to flip or really do anything bad in the air. You could land sideways and save the thing. In this demo if you do the same you are in the wall. You need to setup for them, brake before them to send the car weight forward to stay on the surface, etc. If you land just a little off center you are in the wall, there is no saving it. If you land with the brakes locked, you are in the wall, no saving it. If you hit them just to fly in the air you will find the back end usually kicks up and then bounces on landing sending the car into a spin.

- The Grass and dirt to the side of the circuit really pull you off if you put a wheel on them. In GT3 you could ride in the grass with little worry, two wheels on, two wheels off. IN the GT-R ar Nurburgring forget about it.

- When a car comes right up behind you on the straights at Nurburgring, where you are pushing 180mph, and sits just off your bumper the car becomes unsettled and begins to oversteer, especially on the mild corners on the straights (the straights at Nurburgring are really that straight). As soon as the car gets by you or backs off your car goes back to normal.

- Max speed unsettles the car. In GT3 you could hit 240mph and the car felt just like it was going 50mph. In this demo when you are moving down the back straight over 180mph you are fighting to keep the car under control. it isn't smooth and you feel the speed. Not only that but you hear it too. If you over correct you are done!

- If you are drafting another car and hook right behind them (I did this a few times to the Corvette and Astra cars) and try to turn or over correct you have understeer. Once you get back into clean air your car returns to normal.

- I found driving up to the Opel Astra and sitting right off one of his rear quarter panels, but not touching, usually sent him into the grass. It seemd to unsettle his car greatly. It did the same thing to a lesser degree to the Corvette (which has cleaner aerodynamics by design). The Astra and GT-R are pretty boxy cars that you would expect this to happen to in the real world. I'm now very curious how the P1 open wheel cars will behave and even F1 cars.

- Nurburgring and George V have bumps. These circuits are NOT pool table smooth like GT3 (I'm not talking small hills here, but bumps on certian parts of the circuit). I found a few corners at Nurburgring where the car unsettles due to a bump in the brake zone, though if I moved a few feet over on the next try I didn't have the same bump.

All the above is with the GT-R, which is a race car. The Aero stuff effects the normal cars to a lesser degree, due to the lower speeds, but it is all still there. In fact with the RX-7 and MR2 at the Nurburgring you really feel said bumps and need to watch the curbs.

There are so many subtle things the the physics of this demo, it is way beyond what Gt4p was and much different than GT3.

I am very curious what the real final game will be like in SIM mode when you can tune the cars to adjust this stuff out. It really make knowing how to tune a car much more realistic and much more important to win races.

Sounds amazing! Looks like everyone will have to step up there game with gt4. But would anyone expect a lmp to get unsettle if a car was behind it? I mean, those cars get plenty of downforce, same thing with f1 which get more downforce. Looks like it's gonna be a good while till a finish all of the 100 license tests in gt4 with the new physics, bronz all the way :D

The P1s maybe, they have lots of aero downforce and good mechanical grip. The F1s are another story. If you are slip streaming in F1 you loose something like 50% of your downforce tucked behind the car ( I forget the exact number but heard Steve Matchett talking about it alot this season).

It should be interesting!

No wonder PD decided to put in aero parts, can't wait to put a fat ass wing on a Model T, dont know where I'm gonna put it but damn I'll figure something out.

Can't wait to take the Model T on Nurburgring. I'll probably get stuck going uphill though :P

I'm very interested in seeing how the bentley speed8 handles on the tracks. That car is aerodynamically set and what about the S7?

The S7 should be pretty sweet to drive...one of the most aerodynamic cars in the world with a fairly light body i believe. Should be a pretty sweet experience.
