If you go in the system configuration, you can see which version of playstation 2 you have. Mine is fairly new and can ran DVD+R. i don't know about other version

bmw5150: nope sorry, no vids/pics... I have a video in but no good capture devices. Although I might give Adobe a whirl later on.

cobragt: my impressions so far are all good. The physics with the street tires are awesome! I consider myself an above average driver on GT3 and I've spun out/fishtailed many-a-time on The Ring due to those little bumps and misstimed braking. Stuff like that in GT3 you wouldn't even need to worry about. All I can say is: I can't WAIT to tune some cars and hit the road, Grindelwald(sp) should be interesting...

oh and sorry for the late reply guys, I just put it down right now to take a break. Going back now :)

i have newest version ps2 before the small-sized PStwo
it plays absolute everything (dvd+rw, dvd-rw no problem)
obviously newer version has playability
older one doesn't
just find out what your version is, then search on it.

Sigh.

I hate asking for help with such little things.

I just got "my copy," in ISO format. Burned it with DVD Decrypter, default settings. Put it in my PS2, through the use of slide card + swap magic (ghetto, I know). Comes up with the Japanese screen, then the disclaimer-ish screen, then the Sony.. screen, then the Polyphony logo, then nothing. Wait for a while, still nothing. I must be doing something wrong. I'm quite new to DVD burning, perhaps I didn't have something set right? Or maybe my slide card set up is just too useless. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Use the slowest possible recording speed and try using better quality media (dvd+r or dvd-r disks).

Considering this demo will no doubt be released in the U.S. sometime fairly soon, I think I'll just wait, rather than shell out the money for demo+magazine+shipping+swap-disc+shipping, which could easily run triple or quadruple (or more) than what the demo itself will cost when it's released here (either free or included in OPM or something.. which is still free for me).

It's like those idiots that recently paid three thousand dollars just so they could get a PSP one week before they hit stores. There comes a point when it's just not worth it.

Ditto for the game itself, really.. Sure, I could get it "early" by getting the Japanese version, but then I'd still have to get a swap-disc or modchip, as well as deal with shipping times before the game/swap-disc arrived, as well as fighting through Japanese menus. By the time I got all that done, I could just walk down to Gamestop and get the American version for half the price of what all that other crap costs.

--> as well as fighting through Japanese menus

The menus are in english by default on this demo :)

Thats only "if" it is released here. What past GT4 demos released in US/NTSC format have we played?? Signs point to a doubtfull outcome, if SCEA wouldnt have prolouge ported here and make money off of it then why would "they waste" their time to have a free demo ported here and loose money on porting it. Of course the plus side to them porting it out is that many people would be able to play that demo but when has SCEA made a good move like that for GT
What do you do if its never released here? Either go without it, or import it in before they run out of copies. I'm not missing out on this, and I REALLY want a GT4 demo that bad. I'm tired of waiting for SCEA,PD,SONY to get around to making something for us so this is better than nothing as far as im concerned.

Cobra, look 2 pages back. Someone else posted the link.

I wasn't that impressed when I first loaded this demo, I guess having played HL2 made me realise how dated GT4 is starting to look (no suprise after all these delays). Although after a while I came back & appreciated the graphics more, after ignoring the some times appalingly low-res textures (Falken dashboard) etc... Anyway...

Its nice to finally try the newer physics engine with something other than the crappy 1 series. Most of the demo cars seem quite easy to drive without assists, except the MR2 which seems abit tempremental with the ol' weight shift ;) The Ring looks the same as the BMW demo, Trial Mountain is a bit nicer but not much different (car still lifts if you hit embankment before main straight) & the Paris track doesn't look as good to me as when I first saw it, not sure why but interestingly the spectators are all silent (Weren't they supposed to cheer?). Its also very apparent whilst racing around the Paris circuit that the spectators repeat, again & again & again, I'd have prefered none rather than that personally.

The car engine noises have very slightly improved outside the car, but somehow they've made the engine noises inside the cars even worse. Some cars you can barely hear at all over the AI cars.

The photomode has obviously had alot of time spent on it, which is a pity since in my view its just a cheap gimmick & a complete waste of time apart from taking a pic or two of your fave car in the final game. Personally I'd have prefered another feature or even 10 more cars.

Hajaz
the older ps2s are extremely picky about what media they will read.
i'd try verbatim -r burnt at a low speed
All I've got with me now is Memorex. I burnt it at 1x speed, but it didn't work :yuck: Do I need to get some Verbatims, or is it pretty much hopeless (I burned a movie to a Maxell disc and it worked fine...)?

oh, I found an Apple disc, I'm trying that now (at 2x...Disc Utility forced it on me)...But if that doesn't work, should I try a Verbatim or Maxell, or try DVD Decrypter instead of the Apple Dsic Utility, or just give up ( :guilty: )?

-Your talking about the PSP's that were bought from a charity auction?

YAY, my Apple disc worked! But it makes horrible noises sometimes...

BTW, I found out that pressing triangle on the main menu instantly loads a demo replay.

Simple logic, really... True, we don't know the reasons behind Prologue, but there never really has been a "demo" of GT4 yet. The BMW and Toyota demos were more of "virtual test drives" for the cars, that's why they were distributed through car dealerships, not through videogame stores or magazines. BTW, the Toyota demo was NTSC-U/C.. I've got it downstairs.

Plus the fact that the demo has an option for all-English.. Prologue did NOT have this. The fact that there's an English option, as well as a MPH option, indicates this demo was likely made by PD specifically for mass-distribution worldwide. And Gamespot, for one, did promise a demo for GT4 prior to the game's release. I'd be willing to bet this is the one it'll end up being.

GT-Alex: Read it again, I was referring to the final game in that paragraph, not the demo.

And yes, if the demo is not released here, I'll simply go without. Like I said before, there comes a point when it's just not worth it. And since it would actually end up costing me more than GT4 itself in order to play the demo.. well, that ain't worth it.

I used a Fujifilm disc - works fine now. Before I was just using the crap CD that came with my burner.

My impression of it - LOVE the new physics. This is the first time I've actually noticed a significant difference in feel between a stock suspension that lurches all around (the MR2) and the firm custom suspension. Also, I love all the bumps incorporated into the Nurburgring - first time I think I've seen a significant amount of bumps in the series as well. Graphics aren't greatly improved over GT3 but they still look great.

I LOVE the Nurburgring!! :D

I bought a hard drive finally
the game runs alot faster than I run on DVD ... total satisfaction
but sad thing is ... I accidentally killed my NFSU2 save when I was fooling around the PS2menu
luckily not the GTASA save :P

how does the game run on the hd? b/c the game's not ment to work on a non japanese ps2...does it matter if u play a japanese game on a u.s. ps2 through a hd? do u need a mod chip or something?

I just noticed Photomode has hotkeys. Instead of moving the pointer to the camera controls, you can hold the shoulder buttons for instant access: L1 is pan/tilt, L2 is rotate, R1 is location, R2 is altitude.

Oh, and I wrecked really incredibly bad on the Ring. watch

mine is mod ... but if you have swap magic, non-mod ps2 can work too
playing on hd is same as on dvd except faster load time (3 secs to load a race)

When you in photo mode, whatever you trying to modify, look at the bottom of the screen for extra keys and info
I found out the photo mode has limitation on where you put your car, so as the camera location
there is only few spot you are allow to drop
and I can't to reproduce some screens we have seen from TGS2004
e.g. https://www.gtplanet.net/gallery/gt4hr/561066_20040924_screen063
maybe because it is a demo, full version you can put wherever you want to

Sven> good capture, sounds lovely
