Afternoon gentlemen,

I would like to point out, and give credit where credit is due.

Most of my thoughts for the penalty system are stolen from:

ORS SEASON 7
and
ORS SEASON 8
Run by Oni_Chan (OniiChan)

This is a very successful series that is going into its 8th season... Check it out guys.

Remember my previous post and request for this system is not yet cleared by Mij.

I am just trying to see if people think a penalty system is a good idea.

Please reply ASAP with either:
1.YES/Penalties
OR
2.NO/Penalties

Thanks,

Boycey

Yes sounds good...Bit more talk about reverse grid and head start.

HEY asuka611 there must be someone who can help you with your set-up.
If i can help i will.

Cheers

Appreciate the offer Red! Actually I did have heaps of assistance from a couple of the Tier 1 guys during ORS S7 but I still struggled to get pace or consistency with the car.

Had some good battles with you at in the M3's at Fuji in a couple of the after races. Look forward to more of it. See you in S8 mate!

...........

Short version:
1. Fast racers are penalised with ballast. (Added weight/kg)

Make the podium, You get ballast.

Miss the podium in your next race, it is removed.

2. Slow racers will be given an advantage. (Head start by the race clock under reverse grid)

Last place gets a head start.

After qualification, we flip the grid, stager the start by the race clock so the old FULL DAMAGE race to turn 1 is not such a problem. (Is a race won or lost on the first corner of a 40lapper?)

3. Medium racers just need to stay consistent. (Consistency is key to winning a championship)
...........

Boycey

Penalties
(as in manually applied restrictions to certain drivers in between races)
= YES!

Penalties
(as in the mode switch within GT5 online room setup)
= ABSO-#*^%ING-LUTELY NO!

Just needed to clarify that distinction of definition above. :sly:

The question is how to do it.

My thoughts only............

1. Ballast - it does work.......eventually. Small amounts make little difference, and can actually be an advantage sometimes. It's only when the amount of ballast gets large enough do any benefits start becoming outweighed by the effect the ballast has on speed and tyre wear. And remember the comp is only 8 races long. You don't have the luxury of taking 4 races to start to make a difference.

2. Reverse Grid - Too many issues with the race to the first corner; Not enough benefit gained with a head start added; And prone to manipulation by drivers deliberately posting slow times during qualification.

Conclusion - I don't know a perfect solution either.

Here is "a" suggestion. I like to think of it as, "The Carrot and the Stick" principal. For it to work requires 2 things.

The "Carrot" (example only)
Points
1st - 30
2nd - 23
3rd - 18

4th - 9
5th - 8
6th - 7
7th - 6
8th - 5
9th - 4
10th - 3
11th - 2
12th - 1

The "Stick" (example only)
1st - 75kg
2nd - 50kg
3rd - 30kg

Ballast compounds until 200kg is reached.
Ballast penalty halved after 1st race finishing 4th or lower.
Ballast removed altogether after 2nd consecutive race finishing 4th or lower.
***************************************************

Here endith my psychology teachings.

On to another issue. After a fair bit of time with jasr73 testing the tracks in the series not visited by the ORS series using the Citroen, I(we?) would like to suggest 2 changes to the calendar for this series.

1. Change Round 6
From "Clubman Stage Route 5" 40 laps
To "Special Stage Route 5" ?? laps

Clubman is very short - sub 50sec lap. Even 40 laps will only take 35 odd minutes. Special will provide a bit more variety and a longer lap time, and a bit longer race.

2. Change Round 7
From "Trial Mountain" 80 laps
To "La Sarthe '09 (change weather, change time)" 25 laps

Trial is a bit punishing on the Citroen which has little suspension travel, even at maximum height, and may proove very unfriendly to some drivers.
La Sarthe is flat and long, will require less laps for the same distance(already calculated above for the same distance travelled) and has the added benefit of night time and/or weather if preferred. (Night time is a huge plus in my opinion).

Cac signing off...........

Not sure on the penalties really, don't mind either way. Cactass makes very good points on a possible race win ballast.
As for reverse grid I think not, won't work in single race rounds. Need 2 or more races for a reverse grid to work properly.

Thanks Cactass,

I agree 100% with having the 'Penalty Mode' through the room set up OFF.

I think the 'carrot and string' idea is great, I would be happy to run with it.

I do not feel that that is a strong enough advantage for the races that are 8-12th in the championship... ... ...

So, how about after qualification we have 3 groups leave the start line at separate intervals, say 12-9th IN CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS leave on Start, 8-5th at 10or20 seconds after, and 4th to THE CURRENT CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER leave at 20or40seconds after (just an example)

Also, with the NEW GranTurismo 2.08 update released today, and tyres now lasting 3xlonger, we could work something out here also.
Say, those 3 groups are forced to start on... RS for the last 4, RM for the next 4 and RH for the 4 guys on top of the championship leader board.

I would like to see a racer that rarely wins races hit the podium, or even get a 'First Place Finish', not just be turning up each week... But turning up with a 'Chance' to win.

Hey guys
I like cactass's format the best..Do not try to hard to make it fairer for everyone.
I'm in it for the fun of competing..I love to win but the fun of competing is the most important thing.

It will become to confusing and complex.

RULES are good... If i'm 2 or 3 seconds a lap slower than the fast guys then i need to lift my game.

I like cactass' ballast system but not the grid thing, too complicated.

There is a spot for you SJ but you'll have to go on team stealth with matte blue because it's the only spot, sorry.

Hey guys, I've made some changes to the championship. Please read the original post. The changes are highlighted in red. Please make sure you understand ALL the rules and regulations by Saturday. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

So sorry guys, i'm going away saturday morning for a couple of days and will miss round 1. Sorry again and hope it doesn't stuff it up to much...

Hey guys, I'm probably going to miss the first 2-3 rounds, my internet won't be connected until 2nd of october, going to bathurst next weekend and I'm not to sure about the weekend after,

Hey guys, I've put some team logos on the OP if anyone wants to have a look. My favourite has to be the Hogs Breath Racing logo.
I've also added a few more laps to each race.

P.S. Does everyone like the new series name?

Hi all

I must say this , it's going to be a very tough race . I hope you all have your setups worked out & your pit stops planned .

Bring it on .

Thanks

PS: GO TEAM STEALTH ............

Some Rules Regarding tonight- After qualifying Everyone must exit the track, I will then send everyone out in qualifying order one by one, everyone must line up behind the person sent out before them(qualifying order), I will then start the race-everyone must stay stationary in order while the timer counts down. This is to ensure that GT5 doesn't play any tricks on our grid positions. :)

Also before you enter the room please turn Media Server OFF in the network settings for the PS3 (PS3 Main Menu>Network Settings>Media Server OFF). Please clear your gran turismo cache as well (Options>Network>Clear System Cache).

At the end of the race please state the lap number you did your fastest lap on(clean, no corner cuts)
and if there are any incidents during the race please state the lap number it happened on. This will make the stewards life easier.

I will take note of the lap numbers and review the race replay tomorrow morning(checking tyres, incidents, fastest laps etc). I will then post a race review on the thread stating any issues (if there are any) etc.

Thank you so much guys, tonights race was fast and most importantly, it was clean. Great job from everyone for such a clean race. Well done to jasr and boycey on their 2nd and 3rd respectively. I'm still amazed that I won lol.
Also, Cac could you please give SJ the points for 11th position, I think he deserves them for turning up on time and it was unlucky that he couldn't hold the connection.
