AI slow down to let you win.

Of course people would, that's why you go for the middle ground and make it possible to win, but not insanely difficult. There is just no justifiable reason for making it so I can go from -8 seconds to +2 in one lap with the PP limits in place.

I really don't get the mindset of people on internet forums, they can't seem to grasp the idea of a middle ground.

Actually I would say PD has taken the middle ground.

There are hundreds of thousands of GT6 players around the world. I would bet PD has pretty much settled on the middle ground in the context of all the players - this forum represents a small percentage of an even smaller percentage of vocal players.

The extremes of each end of the spectrum f you will.

PD has camped out right in the middle.

:)

So if AI that seems to take their cars out of gear so you can have a chance to win no matter how badly you drive is the "middle ground" (rather than, say, the AI of GT1-GT3), I'm going to have to assume that PD's basis of comparison for what constitutes "too easy" is this:

As true as that is, we do have pretty much the whole spectrum covered when it comes to speed in racing games(just look at the WRS divisions). I personally would consider myself the "middle ground" as I'm constantly placing in the middle of the leaderboards on almost every racing game I've played. Now when it comes to GT6, I am able to do things I'm not usually able to do in GT games, things like golding a license test on the first try and winning a race easily in a (compared to the competition) underpowered car(I beat a Corvette with an 86). These are things that used to be reserved for the top-tier guys, now anybody with a simple understanding of how a car works seems to manage it rather easily.

In itself, it's not. However, when it's the only option you give players as it is now, it's a rather bad thing. It would be like if sports games only had the easy settings that allow you to put up insane numbers without trying.

Players who want a challenge are left with much less to entertain them.

As others have said before, the main basis of choosing your difficulty in racing games has been car choice. People who want an easier race pick a faster car. Picking a slower car shouldn't make the race easier, it should ne a bigger challenge. This is how racing games worked since GT1.

There was no need to pick the "middle ground" when all players were already covered by the system that was in place before.

Well said. I have obtained gold times on licenses with really scruffy laps, and am beating Mustangs with my Fit in career mode.
Will definitely be trying the more evenly matched car approach to see if I can get a decent race.

Ive tried matching my car to they's and all that happens is you thrash them , then I did a race last night driving a stock civic and out ran a GTR ( R35 ) its just plain silly .

This is now getting too silly for words. Even Arcade mode is worthless in this game.

I chose a Jaguar from the default list of cars in arcade mode and did a race around Brands Hatch full circuit.

There was a Audi leading that opened up 12 seconds over the field over 4 laps by the time I got into 2nd place and then slowed down by 12 seconds on the 5 and final lap! :banghead:

I've come to the conclusion that Kaz hates GT and wants it to die, so he's going to kill it with all these stupid "features".. or whatever you want to call them. Current ai, spread out single file start, bad GT economy, tail standing ai (anything to let the player win, even defying physics).. horrible headlights that don't work (but did in pre-release vids), short, pointless career mode, etc..

So Kaz, who loves GT and cars, actually hates GT? Makes sense...

I'd say it's his mentality: "It's my game so only I can change it, community doesn't matter..."

He has done some things we asked for though.

^ I think it's more that he expects everyone to play online.

Better result with the FR-S from the Arcade list.

Same race, 5 laps Brands Hatch GP. Winning margin 4.6 seconds over a BRZ that didn't start from Pole so his pace was held back by the leader until I passed them both. He didn't keep up though.

Although in balance, I have just beaten the Tuned Car Festival in my FIT! 216 BHP for the first and third races and 245 BHP with a low range Turbo for Daytona.

I'm not sure I needed the Turbo though. Who'd have thought an S2000GT1 would be such a pushover. :yuck:

That has to be the worst game ever! :yuck: Any noob could make a better game using 3D Rad...

You need to make the AI have better tyres than you, this combined with the power limiter is the only way I've found to have competitive races in Arcade mode.

When setting up a race you need to use one of your own cars and select the compound you want the AI to run, then change yours in the car settings menu to a lower grip set and experiment with the power limiter. Until Polyphony fix the AI this is the only way to have close races.

I see no massive drop off in pace when doing this - in a few short races I've done the AI has been no slower than 4 tenths off my time on the final lap. In a longer race I did the AI slaughtered me, it was pulling away lap after lap and ended up finishing 46 seconds in front over 10 laps.

I killed 25 seconds in 1 lap of brands Hatch in a 500 Abarth when the leader was driving a M3 CSL. 👎

I can confirm this too.

Driving at Spa in a stock LP560 Lambo, I wanted to hang back in last place so that I could get some photos of my car in replay mode.

I was driving along for a lap or so doing 40-60mph and the cars in front weren't really pulling away. So I gave up hanging back, and just began racing to complete the race.

Upon watching the live timings during the replay, the cars ahead of me were 4 seconds per sector slower than when I was racing them properly. This means around 10-12 seconds per lap slower when I'm behind them, than when I'm in the lead.

Ridiculous!

I also noticed that I had more grip/power when I was behind, my lap times are usually very consistent so when I caught the AI and posted a time 1.5-2 seconds slower than my normal, this was all that came to mind.

Its a genuine shame pd has robbed us because for the first time since gt3 the ai is actually fast...when they aren't letting you win. I've made 10 second comebacks to take the lead with 1 lap to go and the ai will just stick to my tail at about a half second behind. On the gt3 races in the m3 I had to push to get away but they always let me win still :grumpy:

problem is we cant resist a gran turismo game so as long as they are selling millions they will never fix things like AI , sounds, why bother ? I mean put your self in there position ( PD ) your making the game for 15 years with same AI , sounds and every game released you sell 10+ million copy at least and you don't have an official feed back forums to listen to anyone , if I were kaz ... I wouldn't even do a thing about it ... just as he is doing

Did the IA race on daytona, 5 laps, touring cars yesterday in the 15th Megane Trophy car (stock). First two cars in the field: calibra touring car and lancer evo touring car.

After the start i was about 10 secs behind the leaders, the next sector said 15 secs! I was pushing hard and they kept pulling away, no way i should be able to win this race.
The calibras laptimes were in the 1:52 - 1:55 range on lap 1-3. Because of bad driving, i was 21 secs behind the start of lap 4.

You all know what happend: I won! Jey, i'm so awesome!! Not!

The leading calibra threw his anker and did a 2:08 (!!) in lap 4.....

And this is a bad thing how?

Because it removes any sense of achievement. It's the gaming equivalent of giving every kid in the marathon a first place prize. It makes it mean absolutely nothing.

Maybe some people just want a game to tell them they're awesome regardless of whether they actually are or not. Some of us definitely want to feel like we've reached a certain level of excellence when we achieve something. If that means that some things are out of reach for me, I'm OK with that. I'll keep trying and hopefully one day get better.
