When reading the threads here since the launch of GT6, I have been struck by how much negativity there has been about the game… Sure GT6 is not perfect, but let us not forget the good things about the game!!

So that’s why I would like to make a thread exclusively about ALL THE BEST THINGS in Gran Turismo 6. Sure, I have my gripes about the game as well, but I would like this thread to be ONLY about the best things in GT6.

Here’s my "best things" about Gran Turismo 6:

The new physics engine
The new engine is such a big step up from Gran Turismo 5. FF and 4WD cars have become so much more fun to drive. You really feel the movement of the car in a way that GT5 never managed. Also, the aerodynamics can be felt in a much more apparent way now, something I have hardly felt in any other racing game. When going 320kph+ the car almost feels stiffer from all the downforce, it’s so cool!

Better career mode
In GT5, I always found the career mode to be a bit scarce… I had expected more of everything and more variety, it felt like a step down from GT4. However, I find the career mode in GT6 to be much better. I like how they have integrated the mission races and coffee brakes (that could also be found in GT4) into the career mode itself. It makes them more accessible and provides better variety.

The graphics
Yes, I think this is one about the great things in Gran Turismo 6. It’s easy to complain about certain things in the graphics department, but let’s not forget what’s actually in there. As I mentioned in an other thread:

“Just to manage to get HDR effects, adeptive tesselation and night and day effects working in realtime while rendering in 1080p60 and while 16 cars is on track at the same time is something not even Forza 5 does on next-gen hardware.”

In addition to this I think it’s worth mentioning the improved lighting effects, improved smoke etc. I think PD has done about what’s possible on the PS3 now, for more visual effects we’ll have to wait for GT7 on PS4.

The tracks
The collection of tracks is really stunning, there’s just so much!! This is especially noticeable in the career mode where it feels like new tracks are thrown at you almost constantly. And I LOVE the improved Apricot Hill!

No mandatory install before game launches and hugely improved loading times
Let’s not forget this fact! No install and still the game’s menus are lightyears faster than in GT5! The importance of faster loading times cannot be underestimated, it makes the game much more fun to play.

The improved standard cars
They have improved the standard cars a lot, much more than I thought they would. Some of the cars can basically be mistaken for premium cars. I think this is truly a great thing because there are so many great "standard" cars in there (like the group C cars etc.) and it's great that they have been improved.

Just look at the Formula GT, posted in the thread ""Standards" the good, the bad and the ugly":
Well, i heard that the fgt was improved, but now that i have one...it's impossible to call it standard.
I was surprised it was THIS good.

Improved sounds
Well… This is a hot potato but I do feel the sounds have been somewhat improved. Maybe it’s just me but doesn’t cars like i.e. Lexus LF-A and Honda NSX Type-R ’02 sound a bit… meatier compared to GT5? I think when watching replays, during downshifting and such that many cars sound better than in GT5. And not to mention the Red Bull X2010 which has a stunningly great sound! Gran Turismo is at least moving in the right direction and that is a “great” thing isn’t it?

Driving for fun
As a combination of the improved loading + new physics engine + the collection of tracks, I feel that driving for fun has never been more fun than in GT6. Driving for fun was something that I did quite a lot in GT4, but not so much in GT5. I don’t how many times I have already taken cars for Free runs on Brands Hatch for instance.

What’s your top favourite things in GT6? Please list them!

Without a doubt... The future real life tracks/roads re-creation using a smartphone-based app with GPS.

By the way, you're wrong about the no-install thing. The tracks are installed the first time you drive on each one (you can notice that it takes a lot more to load the first time, it's because it's been installed. And for me it has taken already 7 GB of disk space, updates included.

Good thread. Agree with all of that.

I love the fact it has delayed me spending £400 on a PS4!

Like the soft and hard suspension only upgrades as well.

Physics are now up there with the PC sims.

Sounds are improved when you buy sports exhausts as well as visually upgraded.

Brands Hatch now included. It's 10 mins down the road from me, been round it a million times and the game version is spot on.

The career structure never feels like a grind like GT5, I've played it since day one (not ridiculously) and I'm only just finishing International B races.

I enjoy the fact that I can "level up" without having to complete every event. However, I'll reserve my A+ rating of GT6 Career Mode until a real Endurance Level is introduced. I want to see something akin to the WEC with the Nurburgring 24 added.

Other things I like:
-Not having to check the UCD every "day".
-Never losing Paint Chips.

I love the fact it has delayed me spending £400 on a PS4!
👍

From boot to the main GT6 menu takes under 25 seconds with my SSD and disc version. Simply remarkable. 👍

Feel the same about Mount Panorama. Been round it heaps, and the attention to detail is crazy. Even has the police building up top which is half hidden by the hill. All the houses are in the right spot, even the radio towers green mesh only surrounds half the fence. The drains around the track, they're all in the right spot. Its crazy how much effort they've put in.

Yeah, you're right, I meant that there's no mandatory install before the game launches the first time. When I installed GT5 the first it took almost 40 minutes before I even got to see the intro movie. I have edited the post.

And I can't wait for the re-creation thing either, it sounds so interesting! I travel almost 60km each day to work and driving that path with a Veyron instead of my usual car would be immensely cool :)

Good thread. Agree with all of that.
....snip
Like the soft and hard suspension only upgrades as well.

This is one of my favorite tuning options. They actually work well, especially if you don't have the time/know how, to tune.

But my absolute favorite thing is the ability to switch cars/tune no matter what screen you're on. I like being able to tune right before a career race, instead of having to back out like we did in GT5.

It might be something small, but it saves me a huge hassle.

Once you look at a few cars' suspension setups, you'll see a general pattern.
The difference between race soft, rally, race hard, seems to be a ~10% jump in max attainable spring rate of the fully customizable suspension stiffness.
I've noticed stock is usually 25-35% of max stiffness. RS would be 50%, rally would be 60%, and RH would be 70% while retaining the stock compression/extension/roll bars. With fully customizable BASE being same as standard suspension but compression/extension/roll bars being bumped up to 3 from 1 all around.

Double thumbs up on the physics bump. Really separates all the cars much better.

Streamlined menu navigation, ease of switching/tuning cars

Seems to allow all custom wheels on pretty much all cars and much better navigation. Subset selection per car Was a pet peeve of mine on gt5. +sizing of wheels.

Full car/wheel paint preview

The custom parts on some cars.

For all my griping I think the AI is an improvement. In Gt5 even the lead cars would pretty much get out of your way when you caught them. Now when the right conditions are met it actually puts up a good fight.

Expandable main menu as already demonstrated with 1.02. Bodes for good things to come in terms of career mode additions.

Vision GT. have yet to take the Mercedes for a spin but the concept is awesome and really looking forward to some on the list.

Some awesome new premium cars, classics in particular. Daytona coupe, Shelby 350 GT (FINALLY), '77 Bandit (was on a list in a post from a while back actually), Cuda, Ghia and Corvette concepts, Contauch etc... Personal favs on newer are BOSS and Veyron.

SHIFTER KART -was the only thing that made me want to mod GT 5

Goodwood hill climb and all the new tracks, dynamic weather etc. The night sky driving around Bathurst or Matterhorn is distractingly awesome. Highly recommend bumper cam coming down the hill on panorama sitting close enough to a massive TV that it fills your field of view. Just WOW.

Driving on the freakin MOON!!!! I don't care how slow it is, that is just plain full of awesome. Someone please plop One of the guys that actually drove a lunar rover in front of GT 6 while we still can and lets hear how it compares.

Ayerton Senna suit. If seeing a senna suit on a cart or open wheel replay doing some insane passing doesn't bring a tear to your eye then turn in your Motorhead card. Open weeping is acceptable if its raining and Monaco.

Humane license tests. Bit of a touchy subject but my personal opinion was the older tests bit the wax tadpole. Had no issue with how tough the times were, the lack of being able to adjust the car setups (not talking power, but driver aides, BB and suspension on race cars) AND being insanely hard to gold is what ticked me off.

Agree with everything you said.

Personally, I was blown away with the day/night transition. Coming down the front stretch at Circuit de la Sarthe at night is incredible, especially in the cockpit view. The lighting reflecting off the dashboard and the shadows from the buildings is very realistic and smooth.

I'm also enjoying the physics much better than GT5. I felt like I was going to spin out coming out of every corner in GT5. I don't have that feeling in GT6 and it feels much more realistic and balanced.

Overall I'm very happy with the changes and improvements to the game. I think PD did a very good job.

Mate, I was there bout 2 weeks ago and having raced around the track in GT , the attention to detail is crazy close. I can't believe how they've got it so right with the track elevation changes up the top of the mountain. Just awesome.
I agree with all the comments posted regarding features and game changes. I'd also like to re-iterate about the revamped(new?) physics engine.
On Willowsprings track last corner before the straight to finish line I was pushing the cars' handling to the limit and the front left and rear tyres were just riding the edge/lip of the track. I felt every bit of that sensation and came away with a huge grin. :D
One thing that really surprised me was the quick loading(or lack of) times at the main menu.
I'm blown away at what PD have achieved with GT6 on an ageing last gen console. Hats(or in this case helmet) off to them:tup:

Has someone else said driving physics? Because...uhh...yeah, DRIVING PHYSICS!!!

Others I can think of:

Tyre squeal noises.
VOLK TE37SLs
Bathurst
Bathurst
Bathurst
Improved lightning at night.
Better menus
MOAR DAIKI KASHO!

What I like is that you can have real races against the ai in GT6 - that is once you've appropriately (under-)powered your car. I have races in GT6 where I overtake a car and then get ovetaken by that same car! In GT5 that was nearly impossible. In GT5 whenever you overtook a car, the overtaken car would just give up the ghost never to be seen again. GT6's ai leaves much to be desired, but it's a hell of an improvement.

Love the new driving physics, the forever paint chips, the improvement to standard cars thats more than noticeable.
The accessibility of the game itself to newcomers. The numerous tracks.
The sound is definitely better, but improvements always welcome :)
The game can only get better

Off subject, I laughed when I saw your avatar! Thanks for the laugh!

Haven't seen anyone mention anything about the odometers actually working now! For some reason that was one of my biggest pet peeves in GT5. GT4 had it, so why couldn't GT5?

As mentioned by others, I also like the forever paint chips .. it never made sense to me why they would be used up in GT5,
and speaking of paint, I like that you get to see a full preview of a new paint job instead of a sample on a little pinewood derby car.
I'm also a big fan of the new main screen layout .. there doesn't seem to be nearly as much clicking to get around

Some don't like it, but I really like the fact that every single car in the game is available to buy in the dealership. I hated having to go into the Used Car dealership every day to see what surprises there were.

And I like how often the game is being updated so far. It makes it feel like they are listening to the GT community

I'm sure there are a bunch more, but those are my top likes

Nice summary there, I totally agree with you.

The ease of switching and tuning cars via the Start button was such a (surprisingly) great addition I think!

Has someone else said driving physics? Because...uhh...yeah, DRIVING PHYSICS!!!

MOAR DAIKI KASHO!

Yeah! I find the music in GT6 to be much better than in GT5, both the menu songs and the music while driving. The Daiki Kasho songs are really great!

I would go with Career mode and physics... And... yeah. That's it. The game is still young. I love it, but I would prefer to judge it three or four months from now.

- Physics
- All standard and premium cars in the dealerships
- Bathurst
- Pagani Huayra
- Improved track creator (hopefully)
- Bathurst
:)

-Much improved physics
-simulation of clouds, humidity, and astronomy
-More day-night transition and weather for more tracks
-Fixed low-res particles that resulted in jaggy smoke effects
-Base model race cars
-Much improved standards
-Much better load times
-Much less screen tearing compared to GT5
-Much easier to navigate menus
-Amazing track list with great new additions (Ascari, Bathurst, Willow Springs, etc)
