Am I the only person who hates the rallying?

I Think Rally is Flippin Brilliant. Come on man! I get it completely sideways. One time I was so sideways My car got stuck and I waited for the A.I. To bump me out. Chamonix however is a hellhole.

They're all hell for me :ill: i just end up spinning, ive done all of the dirt events but cant seem to do the ice ones :grumpy:
ive found awell that my driving on tracks has increased, epecially in unpredictable cars, now that i have completed all the dirt events. it might jut be me im not sure, ha anyone else found this? :)

My tip for driving on the ice circuits would be to drive slower than you think you need to. It's very tempting to do massive broadsides into the corner and power out sideways, but for the purpose of beating the AI the best way is to get your nose into the corner early and keep it stuck to inside all the way around, adding as much power as you feel comfortable with. Brake nice and early as you will slide wide with late braking and just nose it around.

The other tip is to not assume that a massively powerful car will help you beat the AI on the harder events. You can only put down a small proportion of your power on the ice so think more modest - one of the WRC cars with maybe the next stage turbo should be more than enough.

The rallying in GT4 is okay, but nothing special. It's fun sometimes but if I really want to do some rallying I play on one of my dedicated rallying games because the physics seem more realistic for rallying. As people have described, the low speed physics especially on GT4 aren't up to much so pulling the handbrake on for a hairpin doesn't feel as natural as it should.

That said, I expect GT5 will improve on this as the low-speed control in GT5:P is much better, as is the handling in general.

Exactly.

And power, on the ice stages, is not the most important thing. Ice needs GRIP, not power.

My thoughts exactly
Colin McRally for the win 👍

Power is just as important too you know, although not overpowering it with a stage 4 turbo, but I think you need good acceleration so that you recover from the corners faster.

personally i think if you know a little bit about drifting and drift techniques then you will be very good at rally and driving rally will help develop your drifting skills.

I recently started over my GT4 save state (hadn't played it in years, and got a wheel). Doing the rally races over again made me develop some pretty nasty habits. Up until about 30% I didn't even touch the special conditions races, and I did a lot of clean driving in circuits (slow in fast out, controlling the gas around hairpins, etc). After 3 days of rallying, and getting every medal, I had to retrain myself how to drive, simply because the computer does an infinitely much better job at controlling the car. Needs more B-spec :( At least so I can give it a good car with nice stats that SHOULD win, and set it to 3x

the rally is bad, I hated it, and it was the only licences I couldnt get silvers at least on, I just didnt have the motivation to want to win, and the cars were gutless.

and because you can win the rally cars as prizes, when the computer puts them on tracks to race you, they always rev out at 220km/h terrible gearbox gearing.

Gutless? :indiff:

Group B rally cars anyone?

You do know you can change the gearing on them, right? And I'm not sure how much you know about rallying, but the gears are short for a reason - acceleration. And 220kph is more than enough in rallying.

Most rally cars suck except all subarus

False.

It's been a long time since I've posted. But in short, I loved the rallying in GT3, mainly because I grew up learning to drive on dirt and ice roads.

I kind of liked it at first in GT4, but I've never gotten 100%, as I haven't gotten past a couple of the hardest rally stages. I come close, then near the end, the AI car rams me, and that's pretty much the race. I've been trying again lately, and having the same problems. What really bugs me is that the races I have one in hard have been mostly because I drove more like someone in a game than the way I really handle a car in those conditions, which may be due to trying to protect the front end at all costs. It's making me cautious about getting GT5, even. I bought a PS2 after seeing GT3, and I was thinking GT5 would be the reason I'd buy a PS3, but that frustration is making me question it.

Anyway, just thought I'd help along the long rant thread.

Well seeing as this is a forum discussing whether or not people like the rally tracks, I shall endeavour to make a comment ( at my peril ) and say that i DIDN'T enjoy them at all and found them to be quite a chore. And for the record i normally buy and love rally games and have been to various countries to watch the once great WRC and i own (built) a rally puma.

Why people have come on to this discussion and made comments such as "don't play them then" is quite beyond my comprehension.

This is a DISCUSSION FORUM you ludicrous people. If it bothers you that much then don't read what people have written....If other people's opinions on something that doesn't affect you in anyway upsets you that much, maybe you should get some therapy.

Kind regards
Lee

Rallying can really get my...

...sometimes. Especially when your opponents suddenly become the rallying equivalent of Thierry Henry.

I tend to use them as street cars...most of them have some awesome engine/exhaust notes!

I hate rallying in GT4. I'm not too bad, but i just choose not to rally at all, if possible.

You bring back a thread that's been dead for 5 months to tell us how to write our posts, even tho you're a New Member? Oookay....

Just for the record,

1. I HAVEN'T told anyone how to write anything OR brought back any past threads.
2. I'm not a new member.
3. Your spelling is diabolical.
4. I just wanted to pass a comment on a topic without being insulted or ridiculed by someone, which you have proven to be quite impossible.

Reign it in.

Oookay!!

August 2009 -> January 2010. Bit of a rift there.

2. I'm not a new member.

Next to most of the regulars you are and there's a bit of prejudice against anyone wearing "New Member" tags around here as most are more annoying than anything else.

3. Your spelling is diabolical.

Aside from his shortening of "though" it's pretty near perfect.

4. I just wanted to pass a comment on a topic without being insulted or ridiculed by someone, which you have proven to be quite impossible.

And yet you insulted basically everyone to have posted in this thread with that comment. Not a good idea.

Lee, your original post doesn't make any sense. First of all, there are a lot of people who dislike rally events, so making such a comment is not "at your peril." Second, people have told others not to do the rally events precisely because they were complaining; if people are miserable driving them, then isn't the easiest solution simply not to do so? And by the way, you misused "reign." (It's supposed to be "rein.")

On topic, I totally hate rally, maybe because I suck at it and my G27 is making some weird some while doing off road, but I respect the dicipline in real life for sure, it requires mad skills. I'll do the rally events some time to get my 100 % completion. At this moment my friend does them.

I see. That's why it says "New Member" under your name. Unless, of course, you're someone who's been banned and have come back under a different name. :dunce:

3. Your spelling is diabolical.

Yeah it is, sometimes. I make mistakes, sure. But I don't see any in my previous post. :boggled:

It's for the mods to decide who really has spelling that's bad enough for a reprimand, and out of all the years I've been posting here, I've never heard from them. :P Not about spelling, anyways.

Right. You've passed a comment on a topic that we haven't been discussing for FIVE MONTHS.:lol::lol::dopey: We've all been here a heck of a lot longer than you, dude, I think we have a handle on how our own home works. You're the one who just showed up!

Reign it in.

No. I won't.

On topic: I LOVE rallying. Except those damn 5-second penalties. But other than that, I love sliding around and getting those corners right. Doing some Hard-level races in a Dodge Ram as we speak, matter of fact.
