here's some artistic car photos, sorry.

@ProjectWHaT - Some nice shots there. I see you've got an EOS-M here. What kit lens did you get with it and how does the ef-s adapter work with the 17-85mm?

Thanks.

I'm not really good with cameras, it's my Dad's.

Here's a picture of the lens and the adapter.

The lens is second hand. He bought it off of some guy on Craigslist.

@Mike Rotch

Not so much the last photo but I've been noticing a number of your recent photos seem a bit underexposed, it's consistent enough to make me think it could be because of what you're viewing them on when editing. I've had this issue before and I'm still plagued with an iMac screen that doesn't really represent the finished product, it's actually kind of turned me off from editing lately.

If it's a look you're going for then ignore me. 👍 It could also be that I'm a poor judge of exposure so perhaps another reason to ignore. :)

Nah mate, now that you mention it, I think you are right. Apart from the Patina truck, which I was experimenting with, the rest are not intentional.

I mentioned a few pages back that the image that I viewed in flickr on my work PC was much darker then it was when I editted on Lightroom on my home pc, so it could very well be that my laptop screen is tricking me into making things too dark.

Thanks for mentioning it mate, I'll work on it in Lightroom and see if I can make things brighter allowing for the screen I'm working on 👍

Usually after doing an edit I will upload my photos somewhere online and then view them with my phone at mid brightness, it may not be the best way to judge them but I think it works well enough.

If Lightroom shows the RGB values you may be able to use them to get a good idea of where your blacks and such are, but that requires knowing what values mean what. You can use the histogram too, you can see there is quite a bit of clipping going on in this particular photo.

Is that panel from Ps? I have clipping indicators on in Lr and generally correct blacks and whites, but I now need to pay attention to the distribution of the histogram...

Yea, as I say, in the above example, I was experimenting with desaturating the foliage and adding heavy contrast to the truck body. Then I brought up the vibrance of the rust to try get the truck to be the focal point of the picture. I was ok to clip the wheel wells to emphasis the grill and rust. Fair to say, I am not sure it worked! :)

Separately, I was totally owned by camera shake today. Went out to a location and more than 1/2 my shots are fit for the recycle bin 👎. I was trying to use everything on manual, and the site was a bit of a challenge what with mud, mosquitoes, exquisite humidity and other photographers getting in the way, but I am pretty disappointed.

Yes the panel is from Ps. I usually use the histogram when reviewing photos on camera after taking them and hopefully now that I can have a real time one displayed on the evf of the sony I will have fewer improperly exposed shots.

In fact when editing now sometimes when making adjustments to the sliders and curves in Camera Raw I only watch the histogram at the top and don't even look at the image, it's a different way of visualizing what you want the image to be and it can be helpful.

@Mike Rotch Tsk tsk playing on railway tracks. :P
Heh, the biggest danger was bilharzia and the mosquitoes! It's the Helensburgh Tunnel about 60km south of me:

The Metropolitan Tunnel is the 4th tunnel on the original Illawarra Line, and is a 624m single track tunnel nestled between the Helensburgh Tunnel 1st (Tunnel No. 3), and the Metropolitan Colliery. It is dead straight on a 1 in 55 grade (falling south). It also shared an unfortunate trait that the Otford Tunnel also had; build up of soot, smoke and steam which was treacherous for engine crew and passengers alike. It opened on the 3rd October 1888 and closed permanently on the 30th May 1915.

After some tinkering, I think some better balance.....

Minolta 50mm

Looks just like old railway tunnels round here.....I look around for clues it was shot on the other side of the world and can't see any. I find that pretty cool.

Not keen on the bright and OOF fern poking in from the left though.

Perhaps a little tweaking with the shadow/highlight tool to bring the bright greens down a bit for a wee bit more colour saturation?

Couple more from me.....and the reasons why I don't spend quite as much time out with the camera as much as I used to....
