Crazy priced lens which sadly has to be returned to it's owner.

At some stage. ;)
lol, I wish I had $1,300 for some glass...

I haven't posted much here because school has really slowed me down. A LOT.

But in other news, I downloaded a trial version of light room set to expire in about twenty more days, and thought I would try to shoot RAW and see how it does...

I'm never going back. The amount of exif data that was there between two photos which were exactly the same was amazing. But light room is soo confusing to work out. I know just about everything on the right side of the screen, but I'm clueless of everything on the left...

I'm just worried if I put the photos in a "collection", light room is going to make copies of pictures on my computer, which I don't want it to do.

Likewise, well I could but justifying it to myself is another matter.

I thought the same when I started using it and am still getting to fully understand it.
Stick with it, it is a great progarm.
Google is your friend, here is a quick read to get you going.

soooo.... I think I want a D750 over a D810, because I can't really justify the cost between the two.

I know of the flaring issue but I don't shoot straight into a light source (at least I think I don't) so I'm not sure exactly what I'll be limited to..

This is all just thinking right now, I don't have enough to scrape up for a fx body and fx lens too right now.

@Swagger897 - I believe the flaring issue has been fixed on the D750 unless you get a used one that hasn't been sent in for repair and if you do nikon should fix it free of charge.

I owned the D750 for about two weeks and was quite disappointed but ymmv, I don't really have the time to get into the reasons why and my issues with the camera may not matter to someone else but to put it quickly the grip was very uncomfortable, shutter was crazy loud and it would often freeze up on me. The last problem has likely been fixed through updates or can be, or maybe it was my particular D750. It also wasn't as "pro" as I was expecting but I don't know that that means anything. I could be being irrational but it left a sour taste in my mouth with regards to Nikon.

From what I read the issue is still apparent even after sending it in. Jared Polin showed his receipt and it didn't appear that anything with regards to the actual problem was switched out, just cleaned and small changes...

As far as "pro like" that's really not what I'm looking for. I'd get a D5 that should be coming out soon for that, but I'd also shoot myself in the foot if I did so..

More or less I'm looking for quality, and options that come with it. From what I read it has a D610 sensor which is good already, but it's been "updated" so I guess even better than good. Then AF seems exceptionally well, alongside the fact it's a newer version compared to the D810.

The D810A is coming out soon, which it's specifically targeted for astrophotographers, something I enjoy very much. But saying "specifically" has me worried, as in, can it still take shots no different than my D3200 can??

But glass is my most important need right now..

I believe even Nikon claimed the D810A wouldn't be good for normal photography, something about how the camera sees reds or certain kinds of light. Not entirely sure.

If they didn't even properly fix The flaring issue then that is poor on Nikon's part, and there's the issue the D600 had with oil spots on the sensor that I'm not sure if they properly addressed that or just released the D610. It might be good to ask 35mm about that.

Yeah I think the "pro" thing was me expecting a bit too much but at $2300 which is what it cost when released I think the camera could have been better in terms of handling. With all that said IQ, high iso and AF was indeed nice.

Even though the sensor is a bit outdated if I was to buy a DSLR in the 2-3k range I'd be looking at a canon 5D MKIII.

Can't stand Canon's UI though.... I'll blow up if I use one. I set next to their accounting calculators I have steam rolling out (not really).

I have two questions... Are you guys linking your pictures from Flickr to show up here (and if yes hooooooooow?)

And for anyone else that does long exposures, or multiple shots for one picture (like the star trails I do) which is best, one single shot or multiple shots? I tried last night to get a good shot but I don't think I'll be doing that again, as it draaaaains the battery like crazy. The other option although, when shooting RAW (which I'm only going to start doing for my star-trails because I noticed no difference in original pictures, and why waste my time [unless I'm traveling and I won't be back for like... ever]) takes up too much space so too many shots at intervals of say, thirty seconds, will eat up my sd card (which I've just gotten a Micro SD Sandisk 64gb which works well with an adapter).

I dunno.... I don't know if I should leave my noise filter on for my camera either, as I've had it off for a while and notice some spots (but only when zoomed in all the way) that bother me...

ughhhhh....

When uploaded to flickr, there are 4 buttons on the lower right of the page. One of them is "share". Within it is a BB Code option which has a direct link to the image.

Did some more reviewing of what lenses I think I may be getting soon...

So far I think I'm down with getting the Rokinon (I always want to say Raikkonen (ya know, F1 Ferrari driver??)) 24mm F/1.4 for around $550. It's the highest rated astrophotography lense and is the best value v quality wise (because it's made between Japan and China...)..

Soo yeah, I just wish there were a lot more people out there that would publish their exif data with these lenses so I can get an Idea what exactly I can be expecting..

These came out soft, but I guess that's just the nature of trying to shoot quickly at 1.4.

Saw that on flickr - really digging the soft bokeh and composition. Probably my fav of your pics so far.

Thanks mate and surprisingly for me composition wise it's not cropped or angle adjusted one bit.

What kind of lens do you need to make such photo?
Rokinon 24mm f/1.4. Although you don't need this specific type, you want something with a low F/stop to take in as much light as possible. The lowest f/stop I have right now is the kit 18-55 f/3.5-5.6...

This lens in particular is a good choice for me, because I still have a Dx (cropped censored) and this is meant for an Fx camera, meaning the glass is going to give me all the light I can possible think of.
Read this if you want to get into astrophotography especially with this lens. I don't read all of Ian's posts but this is what made me decide to get an off-brand lens after seeing the photos he posted..
