I wasn't exactly sure where to put this. But a few days ago there was a huge drive by shooting in the city of Rochester, NY about 45 minutes from me that left many injured and several dead. It made headlines all over social media.

But then this happened.

I have to say, this man has a very good point.

That is exactly what needs to be said and what needs to be discussed. That is my whole issue with the "black lives matter" movement, they don't care at all (from what I've seen) when there is black on black violence, there is no outrage, no marches, riots or anything like that, it is just another day, but when a white officer shoots a black man, even if that officer is completely justified, then out come the "black lives matter" people to say what an outrage this is and look how racist that officer was.

I try not to comment much on things like this because I live it everyday and frankly when I'm at home I don't care to think about my job but this man needs to be heard and applauded and the black community needs to take what he is saying to heart.

I was about to say the same.

Initially I had a different opinion before even watching the video, with the title of course being the catalyst for it, but after watching it I was more than happy. It is a shame though that he is probably viewed as "one of those guys" from the rest of the crowd, but it's definitely more than one sided.

I have to say, this man has a very good point.
It's more than a very good point, it is the point that needs to be made. People want to live in a world of hypocrisy. Take all, leave nothing. Use other people's time and money and do nothing back to give them thanks. This man however, understands both sides of it, where as millions of others are clueless about it...

And to think that those same people are even allowed to vote...

The "Dust Lady" of 11/9 has died aged 42 from stomach cancer. BBC.

Apparently a reporter and a photojournalist got shot and killed during a live broadcast in Moneta, Virginia. There's a video of it online which I won't link to.

Edit.

They are confirmed to be killed.

Yeah, that's so sad. Heartbreaking. Poor news crew. How many of them are actually armed on location?

And of course CNN shows the footage.

Absolutely despicable and desperate.

@Omnis.

2 killed, no wounded.

They have the license plate and name of the suspected shooter.

No, I know that already. I mean, you think about all the times people screw with reporters on location... Are any of them ever armed to be able to defend themselves? I don't know that it would've made a difference here, anyway. It's just tragic.

I doubt the news anchors or camera man are aloud to carry a weapon. For company reasons.
I think it would be a good idea for the station to provide armed security during stories in dangerous locations or covering a controversial topic.
But the stations probably won't, cause money. I hope this will be a wake up call for the networks.

This got me thinking....while a part of me thinks having armed people (law abiding) in public to perhaps prevent or lessen such situations is an option, the other part of me thinks "Damn, what kind of world are we living in where everyone wants to be armed to feel safe?"

These are interesting times for sure.

One where the media is more about scare tactics than journalism. We're the safest we've been in the last 20 years. In those last 20 years we have entered into the 24-hour news cycle. We are now constantly bombarded by tales of violent crime.

The 24 hour news cycle is also one of the reasons I pretty much do not watch any news channels. It tends to be a whole lot of garbage and little actual good content. I also get to avoid seeing all the negative crap going on in the world. Life already does a good enough job beating us up constantly, I do not need an outside influence, that I can control, helping pile more on.

I cannot agree more with this. 👍

Absolutely speechless at what I have just watched. I presume the women they were interviewing was unharmed? If so she will be able to give the best information. I guess more will become clear in the next couple of hours.

What makes that shooting even more disturbing is that apparently the shooter himself WAS also recording the whole thing and uploaded the video.

Unsurprisingly, his FB and Twitter accounts are suspended, but the fact that he was recording is beyond messed up.

Edit: Sadly not Robin, the woman was in surgery at the last update with a gunshot wound.

Duuuuuuude. He was standing there with the gun drawn for at least 15 seconds and no one saw it.

Looking at a still from the video, it looked like he was behind the camera guy, but you'd think the reporter or the interviewee would've noticed him.

An update on the incident, apparently the suspect has already taken his own life.

Man, I hope at least she pulls through.

When your interviewing people you tend to have no peripheral vision, everything else around you zones out.

Often people will gather around new reporters to watch, it's not uncommon and good reporters will actually train themselves to ignore the people around them who sometimes can be a distraction.

To add the cherry to the top of this whole situation, he was openly bragging about it on Twitter before it got suspended and sent a 23 page massage to ABC news last night ( which has been turned over to the police).

Edit: @Carbonox Turns out the suspect is still alive, but in critical condition.

Gosh. Hard scenes. Rede Globo, inside their TV news Jornal Hoje (or Today Journal if you will) just showed both videos, the one caught by camera when it falls and the one done by the shooter. I just can't understand.

What. The. 🤬. It's all I can say

So, another entitled loser who didn't have the courtesy to just commit suicide all by himself?
ATM he's not dead. He allegedly shot himself, then, I'm not sure if it was due to the gunshot, drove off the road. Regardless he's in critical condition right now.
