Love Mike Rowe

It's hard for me to conceive how outrageously expensive post-secondary education is in the US. It's not cheap here either, but it's manageable: outside of my first year at university, I paid for all of my schooling by working part-time throughout the year (and most of those years included living on my own).

I completely agree with Rowe about the system being rigged. Even in high school, the narrative was that University-level classes were our best choices, that we should strive for them if we want success. There was a stigma around the trades that is thankfully dissipating nowadays. The worst part for me was a guidance counsellor who (wrongfully) told me I flat-out couldn't apply to college for graphic design because I had taken university courses. I wasted time and money in a program I didn't want to be in before I got into what I actually desired.

It's very, very apparent in our post-secondary system that it's a business first, and a place of education a (distant) second. The schools all peddle post-grad stats that simply don't match with reality, and it's creating unreasonable expectations for the impressionable folks heading into the system.

Differs wildly by college. We have public universities, private universities, online universities... it's quite variable. The going rate is about $12k per year for 4 years for in-state tuition (including books, not lodging) at a public university.

1 year at a technical school for automotive cost me $20k.
 That's even more than I thought.

Yea. People tend to lie.
Not politicians though

How?! With the FASFA(PELL grant)/HOPE scholarship(GA) I received $4700 tuition per quarter. And a check for $1800 per quarter for living expenses. This was at at county run technical college. I took the 2 year automotive class.

I honestly can't figure out how people have to pay for school. I dropped out at 16 and later got my GED at the same technical college. The only clause was I had to maintain a 3.5 GPA.

I know at 4 year colleges most students have to pay, but practically everyone at our 2 year college was going for free.

Emails released to The Indianapolis Star in response to a public records request show Pence communicated via his personal AOL account with top advisers on topics ranging from security gates at the governor’s residence to the state’s response to terror attacks across the globe.

Pence communicated via his personal AOL account

Incredible.

Because if the Attorney General does it, it's not illegal.

It's not like he's in a position where he's expected to uphold the law of the land and should probably therefore lead by example.
He gets a pass because of that southern charm and subtle racism. Grandpas do and say the darndest things.

That's... typical. Good stuff. So he's definitely innocent of any wrongdoing, because why?
He was a senator, and met with ambassadors all the time. Senator Franken's question was pretty specific. It was about the Trump campaign. Even though he was working part time helping get Mr. Trump get elected, he was still a sitting senator.

There is no there, there. In my opinion, this whole Russian thing is fake news.

The issue is not whether he met with the Russians, but rather that he said that he had not when he was under oath even though he had spoken with them.
Al Franken was asking about members of the campaign. He did not meet with them in that capacity. Sessions is not stupid, He knows there is a record of everything he did. He said in the press conference that he was a little thrown off by the question.

@prisonermonkeys

1. Do you really believe that the Trump campaign, and Donald Trump worked with the Russians to steal the election from Clinton?

2. Do you really believe the Russians had any effect on this presidential election?

Incredible.
Indiana law does not prohibit public officials from using personal email accounts, the Star said.
Indiana law requires all records dealing with state business to be retained and available for public information requests, the Star reported.

Pence's office said in the statement that he directed outside counsel to review all of his communications as Indiana governor to ensure that state-related emails were being transferred and properly archived by the state.

He was allowed to have it. It's been available to the public to know long before this came out. He didn't lie about having it, and he didn't try to cover anything up.

Private accounts can be far more secure than accounts run by public administrations. That's been said for a long time. Obviously anybody using a private email account for such important business is going to be spending a bit extra for a secure service.

After Pence was hacked in June by a scammer who sent a plea for money to his email contacts, the governor set up a new AOL account, the Star reported.

D'oh.

The emails were obtained after a series of public records requests that the Pence administration did not fulfill for nearly four months before Pence left office.
