So was there any chemical pollution on the struck Syrian air base? If Trump supposes the chemical attack was done from there.

Reports say the air strike in Idlib province was done by a Su-22 that CANNOT carry chemical munitions.

Oh man, and here I was afraid of Hillary winning because I was sure that she'd start another war.

Zing! :ouch:

Assad said numerous times already that it makes absolutely no sense for him to use chemical weapons against his own people, and he would never risk becoming even more of a target for the western world. I believe him, no way he would risk that just for using an ineffective weapon.

Poison gas is an ineffective weapon outside situations like WWI trench warfare, it was already outdated in WWII, 70 years ago and nobody uses that stuff anymore, and sure as hell not just because it is outlawed. Its just highly ineffective.

However, terrorists are known to use poison gas, like in the subway attacks because its cheap and easy to manufacture and it hurts people.
For me its pretty damn clear that it was ISIS gas but good 'ole Murrica is using it as an excuse to play some war. I bet the terrorists party hard right now, they could never have attacked the air base but they got America to do the dirty work for them. Genius.

This all is just really damn sad.

One can't help but suspect that the presence of the Chinese premiere in Florida might just have given Trump an irresistible opportunity to demonstrate that he means business... clearly, the situation in North Korea is completely distinct from the war in Syria, but the timing and nature of Trump's astounding pivot towards direct military action in Syria is probably not purely coincidental.

I know it's obvious, but some boneheads may actually think it's a good idea.

Typically boneheads that don't read history or slept in history classes.

CNN is reporting 50 Tomahawk Cruise missles launched against airfields in Syria.

I only know of one man that could do better, and he's on vacation after 8 years of doing such.

Are we seriously at war with another Middle Eastern country? Guess we gotta bomb em all!

I honestly thought Trump, for all his shortcomings, would at least focus his efforts to the US and not starting a new war but rather just keep bombing terrorist outcroppings here and there to show that the US hasn't gone soft or anything. The sad part is, Clinton would have done the same thing here.

I thought we already were since Gee Dubya was in office.

Putin was informed of the attack before it happened.

Trump destroyed the air base that launched the chemical attack with 59 thousand pounds of precision guided high explosives.

Message sent. Waiting for reply. Hopefully Trump has ended the conversation.

Informed doesn't mean agreed with.

As the Russian response indicates, given that they have announced that they have suspended the agreement for the US and Russia to share flight information over Syria, leading to the very real threat of a Russian / American air incident.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...ict-military-donald-trump-putin-a7671631.html

The Russian's have also said they will now help Syria strengthen its air defenses:

"The Russian military says it will help Syria strengthen its air defences after the US strike on a Syrian air base, the Associated Press (AP) reports.
Russian defence ministry spokesman Maj Gen Igor Konashenkov said that a “complex of measures” to strengthen Syrian air defences will be done shortly to help “protect the most sensitive Syrian infrastructure facilities.”
Konashenkov said “the combat efficiency of the U.S. strike was very low,” adding that only 23 of the 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles reached the Shayrat air base in the province of Homs.
He said it destroyed six MiG-23 fighter jets of the Syrian air force which were under repairs, but didn’t damage other Syrian warplanes at the base.
Konashenkov added that the base’s runway also has been left undamaged."

And opened a discussion at the security council on a response:
"President Vladimir Putin has held a meeting of the security council to discuss the Russian response. “The participants expressed deep concern at the inevitable negative consequences of these aggressive actions for the joint efforts to fight terrorism,” said spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He said the security council also expressed regret at the harm the strike would do to US-Russian relations, and they discussed ways to continue the Russian air force operation in Syria to give support to Assad’s army."

Russia has also publicly condemned the US action and say it has violated international law

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/worl...onal-law-over-syria-air-strikes-a3509471.html

So no Trump hasn't ended any conversation at all.

While I may agree slightly that the U.S. violated law, I'm sorry but I find it rich that Russia is saying what they have. Like we all forgot about Crimea. Doesn't excuse the U.S. it's jut hilarious to me.

Oh its a laughable attempt at a defense by Russia, about as laughable as attempts to infer that Russia was OK with it because they were informed before hand.

So Trump gets to wave his willy about for the Chinese, starts a ****-storm over Syria and manages to infuriate some of his base, as the Alt-right are not happy.

The neocons are laughing with delight , clapping both their hands and their feet. Licking their chops, drooling at the prospect of more conflict with our enemies.

I'm sorry,

but I'm just curious on what Melania is looking at.

Never mind Melania - she looks great! What about Trump - he looks like the village idiot. Who picked that photo?

#MOREFAKENEWS!
Certainly not the White House! The decision to use a photo by any given news source is usually decided by their media editor, or someone higher up the food chain. The use of photos in media is something that helps push any given narrative, in this case, the usual BS that Trump is an idiot.

At this point I dont know which group are bigger hypocrites, the Russkies crying about International law violations or gop congressional members who sat on their brains in 2013 when Obama went to them for approval and are now on TV cheering go team 'Murica when Drumpf leaves them out of the process (and follows the strategy of the pants suit lady by attacking Assad's air power BTW).

Just one look at that face and you know we're doomed.

Awaiting further instructions.

I guess she deserves a bit of kudos though, for eschewing what appears to be tea for a giant glass of vino.
(Assuming she did make it herself.)

That would be the wrong glass though... surely at Mar-a-lago the sommeliers are better then that.

She's probably got a good voddy in her handbag anyway.

It's funny how much infighting is done in the republican party, they talk about snow flakes and yet act like them more and more. This nation's politics are just too comical to not be a well conducted reality tv show. The title is "Coming to America"

This.

Now you understand why a bunch of "foreigners" keep weighing in on this thread. Compared to you guys ...

we got nothin'. :boggled:

Oil prices are up today, so is Raytheon's stock price, McCain has blood flow back into his man parts again, and Vlad gets to bluster while the world ignores the fact that Russians where evacuated from the airbase that stocked the chemical weapons.

I'm looking at you Carl Bildt, I'm also looking at you too Huffpo. You know, that time when you mocked Trump for saying Sweden had a problem with terrorism....

Trump: "Sweden, who would believe this? Sweden. They took in large numbers. They're having problems like they never thought possible. You look at what's happening in Brussels. You look at what's happening all over the world. Take a look at Nice. Take a look at Paris."

Carl Bildt

@carlbildt

Sweden? Terror attack? What has he been smoking? Questions abound. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-sweden-terror-lie_us_58a8f397e4b045cd34c263d3 …

Why didn't the US also bomb the runway itself? If the report is true, the runway is still usable by the Syrians.

I'm sure there is always a fair amount of second guessing how the US will be attacked in the media for certain things. If the runway is sometimes used for aid, for example, it would look bad to hit it. Who knows, maybe the report is wrong, maybe a missile missed its target and left part of the runway functional, or maybe it was intentional.

Harder to believe than those is that it never crossed the minds of the people doing the planning. That's a well known technique.

Runways are very easy to repair. even if they'd cratered the crap out of it, it would be back in operation by now.
