Funny enough I posted in the Mid-Term thread about the alleged hacking. Not to mention a number of the posts here should be there instead of clogging this thread.

And Trump's lying continues. Are there really so many american republicans who actually believe his lies or do they only put up with him, because they dislike democrats?

edit: seems like something out of Trump's playbook. (hillary email leak)
Would you say it was a bigger or smaller lie than a vice presidential candidate saying that the other guys are going to put people back in chains if they get elected, an obvious reference to slavery? Hold on, I know I know. It's different!

If these people will ask for asylum legally, then probably like any other asylum seekers. Receive them, give some food, temporary place to stay, review their case, catogarise them and if their application is denied, send them back to their country.
And how do you do that when many of them refuse to say where they came from? You can't take care of them forever outside the US, that just encourages more to come. And Mexico isn't going to allow them to sit there.
I really wonder if moderate republicans are really buying into this caravan invasion nonsense? They are pushing the narrative that it seems like WW3 is going to happen. Trump is even saying he will instruct the military to consider stonethrowing the same as using fireweapons?!?! Is this reality?
He did walk that back and tried to elaborate that he wants them treated as if they had a deadly weapon; arrested and sent back. His intended goal is to avoid this.

The usa has 600 billion dollar defense budget. Does it really need to be scared of an "invasion" of a few thousand unarmed asylum seekers that walked thousands of miles? They make it seem they are going to spread start robbing, killing and raping as soon as they manage to cross the border. I hardly think criminals will walk that distance just to rob, kill and rape americans.
You emphasize walk, yet that's not what they're all doing.

The majority are likely not going to rob, kill, or rape anyone, but as per the first video, forcing your way into Mexico through rocks, pipes, and other objects plays into the hands of being labeled as criminals unfortunately.

That map is beyond infuriating...it cuts off the Keweenaw Peninsula from Michigan's UP.

I just grabbed the first one that wasn't stamped with huge watermark covering most of the image.

Edit: *snorts at Info Wars sourced video*

What the hell are you going on about? Are you losing any sense of logic here?
Are you really comparing a sitting president with a vice president candidate? That is like me comparing something McCain's running mate said, with something Obama has said.

you: Obama lies about X.
me with a smug face: So is it bigger or smaller Lie then sarah Palin lying about "death panels"

They have nothing to do with eachother! Please dont be daft.:banghead:

You do understand the video look much worse then it actually is in the grand scope of things?

But trump and the republicans are creating a picture that the caravan is filled with violent criminals. that is lying in my opinion.

Just two days before facing Democrat Stacey Abrams in a closely watched race to be Georgia's next governor, the state's sitting Secretary of State Brian Kemp — who is also the Republican candidate — says his office has opened an investigation and also asked the FBI "to investigate potential cyber crimes committed by the Democratic Party of Georgia."

Kemp did not provide any evidence of any wrongdoing. In a highly unusual situation, Kemp is in the position of overseeing the election that will decide his state's highest office and has faced criticism over how it has been handled.

Yeah, I don't doubt he didn't provide any evidence. The timing is also rather suspicious, not only that it comes so close to election day, but..

It's almost like the GOP learned a nifty little trick from Jim Comey...

What have veterans fought for if not freedom in a democratically elected representative republic? Election day is the day we demonstrate that America is of and by the people.

Throughout most of history, veterans were forced to fight. Even when said "people" strongly opposed said fighting.

Politics is always opt-in.

Making it easier for people seeking power I find to be a tough pill to swallow, and never desirable. They should have to work to earn your vote. Giving them a holiday seems the opposite of that. Convince me to go to the ballot box rather than the mall.

It wouldn't be giving them a holiday, or a holiday in honor of politicians (presidents' day has that covered). Making election day a holiday would be giving the people a holiday in honor of their exercise of free speech in the form of a peaceful election.

He was the Vice Pesident of the most powerful country on earth saying that if the other party wins they want to bring back slavery...and that's not comparable?

I never said it did. I said media like that gets out and gives ammunition for them to be seen as criminals bc they illegally force their way into Mexico.

What they’re doing by attacking the personnel is what Trump is wanting to avoid.
But trump and the republicans are creating a picture that the caravan is filled with violent criminals. that is lying in my opinion.
Man, quit lumping all Republicans together whilst you tell me the caravan isn’t as bad as the video looks. You have a habit of teetering on double standards at times, mate.

Perhaps you're not understanding my point.

What I am saying is, rather than make it some special event. You (as a politician) need to convince us (as voters) that your politics are more important than what ever we may have otherwise have going on in our day-to-day lives. Having a holiday where the expectation is "we get the day off to vote" creates, in my opinion, political stagnation.

The expectation becomes that people will vote. Whereas, it should be "I really need these people to vote for me. I better make my platform palatable, otherwise, I'll be ignored."

Really, I think too much emphasis is put on merely winning votes, and it's just people seeking power for power sake. Make that harder. You'll get less obnoxious people.

I gotta agree. Also looks like I won't be able to vote. My job denied my request for tomorrow off...

Wait, you guys don't get like 2 weeks of early voting in person? You can also show up in person to any voting precinct in the state, show your license and just vote. Also, Utah just sends everyone an absentee ballot you can send in about a month before the election.

I'd still like tomorrow off though since I work for the government. I feel like I need another day of vacation that doesn't come out of my PTO bank

How's that?

We [in Texas] had in-person early voting Oct 22 to Nov 2. That said, I'm given to understand in addition to his shady activities, Kemp actually made it real easy to vote online in Georgia.

How's that?

As you pointed out, this "investigation" announcement comes pretty close to election day, and Kemp knows that just the notion that Abrams' is "under investigation" will hurt her, similar to the effect of Comey's announcement that the Clinton investigation was being re-opened. (Not that Comey intended for that to happen, I'm just saying it looks like the GOP took note of the effect.)

We do, trying to get anything but the default Sunday is usually impossible. No PTO either...
Don't trust mail in either...

I figured that's what you were getting at but I couldn't reconcile the apparent intended outcome, so I considered you meant something else.

We do actually get 2 weeks of early voting. They mail us ballots and you can drop them off any time in one of the drop boxes. I dropped mine off today. Still, I think it would be cool to have a holiday to celebrate it.

That's a terrible idea. First off, anyone who joins the military voluntarily is "opting in" & should do so with the understanding that they might be obliged to fight in a war that they don't believe in. If less people were willing to fight in questionable conflicts, there might be less questionable conflicts. "Fighting for your country", or in the old days "god, king & country" or some other such patriotic BS has led to millions of pointless deaths.

Secondly politicians should be treated with some respect. If you treat them like scum bags & force them to act like scum bags, then you'll have a scummy system. Voting should be treated as a civic responsibility & people should (hopefully) vote from a more disinterested viewpoint. Americans already seem more inclined to "go to the mall" than to vote. "Working to earn your vote"? Well that has a long history too ... of graft & corruption, vote-buying etc.

Looks like I'll be able to vote! 11AM and I'm halfway done with my route.
