I mean...sure, but the Electoral College probably ought to be abandoned before that happens.

In our country you essentially elect the senate, with the majority winner becoming the president. If a single party wins only with for example 30% of the votes, a person is appointed by our king to try to negotitate a majority coalition (alternatively let the house/congress appoint one) to achieve a 60% majority. So the majority is always represented by at least 60% of the votes. The President will always need to answer not only to his own party, but also the coalition partners. Wouldnt such a system be a much better system for the USA? You can even rank the presidential choices for each party and put them all on the ballot. That eliminates those costly and idiotic preliminaries.

The flipside however is that its possible for a president to be elected with only a very small number of votes, but in my opinon the current system of directly electing a president is even more flawed and undemocratic. A large portion of the public are forced to choose between 2 lesser evils, instead of their preferred choice.

While I understand the reasoning of seperation of powers. A winner takes all system does not make sense in a democratic system to elect president seperately and the electoral college. You end up with a president that doesnt even represent the majority of the country (not winning the popular vote).

A large portion of the public are forced to choose between 2 lesser evils, instead of their preferred choice.

They're not forced to. They foist this upon themselves by voting for people that do not represent them, which undermines the democratic process.

I don't deny that there could be improvements to the US system of politics, but one of those improvements should be public scorn for people that misrepresent themselves in the democratic process.

In a winner takes all system you have very little choice to vote your own preferred candidate if you are moderate or independant.

OK, I was minding my own business this morning when I was lured into clicking this headline on CNN. This is the Christie/Trump/Kushner nexus?

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/30/politics/chris-christie-jared-kushner-father/index.html

Could things get any weirder? :boggled:

For the most part, this has been public, and rather common knowledge, for quite some time. And his tenuous connection with Jared Kushner's father has been widely insinuated by both insiders and Christie himself, as one of the reasons for Christie's early departure from the Trump transition team, if not a front running candidate for Vice President. In a way, it's kind of a shame. I have little doubt Christie would have fit right in with the current administration. Although by comparison, with the size and scope of the scandals caused while in office, it may the only time Christie could ever be accused of being a 'light weight'.

I knew it was a thing ... but I wasn't aware of the sordid particulars of the Kushner case:

Mr. Kushner pled guilty. He admitted the crimes," Christie said. "And so what am I supposed to do as a prosecutor? I mean If a guy hires a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, and videotapes it, and then sends the videotape to his sister to attempt to intimidate her from testifying before a grand jury, do I really need any more justification than that?"

"I mean it's one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes that I prosecuted when I was US attorney. And I was a US attorney in New Jersey, Margaret, so we had some loathsome and disgusting crime going on there."

Christie was referring to an elaborate revenge plot that the older Kushner hatched in 2003 in order to target his brother-in-law, William Schulder, a former employee turned witness for federal prosecutors in their case against Kushner, who was under investigation at the time for making illegal campaign contributions.

As a part of the plot, Kushner hired a prostitute to lure Schulder into having sex in a Bridgewater, New Jersey, motel room as a hidden camera rolled. A tape of the encounter was then sent to Kushner's sister and Schulder's wife, Esther.
Ultimately, the intimidation stunt failed. The Schulders brought the video to prosecutors, who tracked down the call girl and threatened her with arrest. She promptly turned on Kushner.

In a plea deal negotiated by Christie, Kushner pleaded guilty to 16 counts of tax evasion, one count of retaliating against a federal witness -- his brother-in-law -- and another count of lying to the Federal Election Commission.

Nice.

Who knew the don was like a american jesus?

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said she believes God wanted President Donald Trump to win the 2016 election, the Christian Broadcasting Network reported on Wednesday.

Maybe the wall is really to hang trump on a cross for our sins ?

It does explain though all the evangalists support for donald .

I will put this here since israel seems like a extra state at this point ,

For the first time on the record, a senior official confirmed Israel's secret unconventional war in Syria, aimed at preventing Iranian encroachment. But what did Israel gain from exposing its 'anti-intervention' lie after so many years of denial?

https://www.haaretz.com/middle-east...nti-assad-syrian-rebels-big-mistake-1.6894850

So to review first the americans and now israel have admittes to arming potential isil members to try and get back at iran who was by all accounts other than team trump obeying the deal that was put in place .

It isnt iran backing isil it is mostly saudi arabia .

Now trumps whitehouse has to explain this

Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn said it is looking at rewiring plans to invest $10 billion in a high-tech manufacturing plant in Wisconsin. Instead of hiring the blue-collar workers Trump promised to put back to work, Foxconn is now instead planning to recruit researchers, designers and engineers into a "technology hub" rather than opening a factory -- a move that caught state officials off guard.

Looks to me like trump either does not care to make foxxconn follow through on the jobs they promised or it was all a scam to begin with .

No firm sign of God just yet, but maybe angels or aliens on a mission of destiny and the Don. Azor Ahai reborn, the second coming of Jesus? Or maybe just a loose balloon from the parade looking for a loose orange cannon? :D

Well, to be fair, she didnt call him sexist. I think she was very poorly trying make a point that if a single male repub ran against a whole slew a female repubs, the dems would call sexism. On a possibly related note, her face is showing some signs of an oncoming stroke. Hope shes got that droop looked into.

Yet, a tweet telling people to go back to school, holds value.

We have a BS EC that gives away participation trophies.

Thank goodness they didn't find a video of him dancing! :D

EDIT: CNN mistakenly referred to him as a Republican on a news caption... and the internet went crazy etc. etc.

I'm not a fan of this whole going back in time to pick things you don't like with a 2019 lense.

The fact it was on a yearbook shows you how different it was back then.

I agree. Blackface was not as considered offensive as it is now and if then you should consider that more people were ignorant on the offensive nature.

Society changes over time because individuals learn new things. All of us have changing views. As long as a person understands what they've learned since then it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

No doubt conservative media is having a field day with it. Heaven help me, I kind of want to hear what Hannity's been sa--

...

Hey, how hard is it to make a microwave function with the door open?

The Reddit meltdown has been fun to read.
What? Northam's been having a meltdown on Reddit?

Edit: Nevermind, I took a look at that again.

Is Reddit not one big meltdown anyway?

True. But wearing a KKK outfit/blackface ... for a medical college yearbook? Trust me - that was pretty stupid back in 1984.

They don't play his show in 3 conservative hours here. 3-4 then 8-10. They do that for local news and traffic. Didn't hear anything the first hour.

Hey, how hard is it to make a microwave function with the door open?
I could tell you how easy it is. :D

I also want to brag, I called the roof being closed for the Super Bowl. The snow that was predicted was a nothing-burger and the weather was nice. I say security reasons.

Looks like it was intended as a dark comedy joke ("Haha, black dude and a Klansmen chilling together") which fits with a college atmosphere.

But the black dude actually being a white guy..... :dunce:

Really? That's a pretty screwed-up choice to make - the combination of KKK & ... not a "black dude" ... but a blackface caricature. And doesn't anybody look at these yearbooks & edit the stupid stuff out?

Full disclosure: when I was a kid (this was in the '60's) my parents used to take little Biggles & his siblings to see the "Black & White Minstrel Show" in London. It was a huge success both as a live show & on English television & ran on TV until 1978 & even later as a live show:
