I've been spending entirely too much time today trying to decide why a parade with tanks and soldiers and missiles is distasteful to me and yet a fighter jet flyover is just good clean fun.
He's also not the first President to do it.

For the current cycle of civilization going back some 6000 years, the basic recipe has been agriculture, patriarchy authority, and gold. In the 70's Nixon took us off the gold standard. Now, believe it or not, Trump is making moves to put the world back on the gold standard.
Source?

I wouldn't believe it for a second.

Should put all that money into the states to go fix the potholes in the city
If only the County DOTs didn't have 10 men working around a pothole 2 men could fix(same with the state...) They could get a lot more done. When I stayed in DeKalb County a few years ago they passed a penny SPLOST to fix the roads, to this day they have the worst roads in metro Atlanta under Fulton County.

I can't believe you guys are missing the obvious... put fresh tarmac down in the potholes and run the tank parade right over them. Bada bing.

DeKalb said that was too expensive... I thought about that a good while ago. Gwinnett County, where I've moved is constantly resurfacing. I don't even want to talk about how DeKalb claims the $1.5 million dollar research in traffic patterns to make traffic more efficient was a waste. Stopping at every single light and waiting for 5 minutes to hardly move in rush hour is far from efficient.

Edit: I misunderstood you.

Of course you know I'm a Trump supporting Republican.

I few years back(mid 2000's), Houston elected Bill White(D) as mayor. He promised to time lights for faster commutes.

He did an amazing job with that. I could get from Richmond and 610, to Richmond and Kirkwood in about 15 minutes. 35 mph and no stopping.

It is not like that anymore.

Thanks to your post I've also spent an unreasonable amount of time considering this today. I think... I think... a flyover is for everyone, we look up and say "wow!" and feel the bolstering effect of our tax pounds/dollars/pfennigs in the sky above us. When the RAF fly over the balcony* the people are sharing the experience as much as the honking toffs on the balcony. It's for all of us.

A parade of heavy, armed military vehicles is directed much more at the statesperson in the main seat, everything is visibly arranged for their approval with everybody else just spectating - it's not for all of us, it's for us to watch them with their massive arsenal.

*The point at which I always shout "bombs away!". True story :)

I've explained it before, it started over a fake dossier...

What makes you think it was a "fake"dossier? Better yet how should one find out if its fake?

So I'm going to admit that I don't know a lot about the Steele Dossier. I intentionally tried to avoid learning about it. So keep in mind that I'm commenting with essentially no knowledge of what it is, what it contained, and how it was used (although I can gather that it was bad for Trump).

Warrants are not approved once everything is verified, the judicial standard for a warrant is "probable cause" to believe that a search is justified. The standard is not "beyond a shadow of a doubt" or even "a preponderance of evidence". It's probable cause.

I don't know what was or was not offered as evidence or accepted as evidence in any proceeding, and the rules of evidence are many and complicated. But this a particularly pertinent section: "If the evidence is documentary, the party proffering the evidence must be able to show that it is authentic, and must be able to demonstrate the chain of custody from the original author to the present holder."

Evidence also has to be relevant.

The entire point was to investigate if there was any truth in the steele dossier. How else could one conclude it was real or fake? The FBI would have been not doing there job if they decided, without investigating, the steele dossier is fake, just because someone says its fake?

The whole notion that the investigation was illegal, because the dossier was fake kind of boggles my mind. Like you correctly said, probable cause was enough to warrent an investigation. It would be misconduct or a crime to not investigate.

I was in Singapore on National Day last year and they included parachutist and diver displays to entertain the crowds. Perhaps Trump could put on some variety acts to break up the monotony of overwhelming firepower.

I guess that the main difference. Is it to inflate Trump's ego or actually to honor the country and entertain the people?

If the people dont want it and the military are reluctant, i guess its obvious what the motivation is.

Trump's "military parade" is not only distasteful and massively unnecessary, but a tremendous waste of funds of well. The total cost of Trump's military parade, which achieves absolutely nothing at all, is roughly $22,000,000.

$22,000,000, in America can:
  • Buy over $100,000,000 meals for the hungry.
  • Pay 1 year of college tuition for over 2,000 students.
  • Opioid rehab (another issue he pretends to be compassionate about) for over 1,200 people.
  • Adoption of over 500 orphans.
  • Suicide prevention for 5 veterans a day.
But instead, this money was spent on a useless display of imperialism when instead it could be donated to much better causes. If Trump really "supports the troops" and "cares about the vets" then he should've used the money to actually assist and uplift them, rather than on some parade.

Yeah, I should of left that part out... Good to see you still can't be bothered to quote people you have no problem criticizing.

You're funny.

It's hard to quote something you didn't see. The only reason I did see it is I opted to "Show Ignored Content" after reading another's responses to posts I couldn't see, and I followed those posts back to the one I quoted above.

So then, what did I respond to? The first sentence of this post led me to believe someone cited the Mueller investigation as an excuse for Trump being an asshole, and while I don't know this to be the case because I still haven't seen the post, your response to me above confirms that suspicion.

But do you know what I find particularly funny? Your propensity to play the victim and get your knickers knotted at perceived slights (you even accosted me for using the multi-quote function to respond to individual statements you made within the same post, for crying out loud) is one of the reasons I opted to ignore you. It's a minor reason, mind; your tendency to drag things out when anyone asks you to substantiate your comments (I believe I even posted a picture of pediatric dentistry in response to this, because it's like pulling teeth) was my primary motivation.

Now that that's cleared up, don't bother responding to this because...well...I won't see it.

Edit: Whoops! Removed an incomplete thought that wasn't meant to make the final draft.

Trump tweeted his intention to nominate Judy Shelton to serve as governor on the Federal Reserve Board. She is the U.S. executive director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and wrote as recently as last year in support of pegging the dollar to gold prices.

Trump is doomed!

Then why bother posting? To rub your ego? And I call BS on the ignoring me, if you had me ignored you'd've never known I posted the quote you quoted cause no one quoted it and if you knew it was me and you had me ignored then that's on you for being curious about what someone you ignore said. As far as playing the victim card... BS too, I called you out for being the :censored:hole you are. You just hide it behind fancy words. At least I have the mental strength to not need to ignore someone I really do not like.

Trump is the biggest embarrassment to the military he possibly can be, yet he touts himself as someone who “supports the troops”. It’s time to give it up, buddy. Either actually provide assistance and programs to the veterans who are homeless and suffering, or stop patting yourself on the back altogether, because we the people can easily see that you don’t care about soldiers at all and instead, use them as a political prop.

the president of the USA
“Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rockets’ red glare, it had nothing but victory.”

Rumor has it Betsy DeVos has ordered new textbooks be printed to reflect his account of the events.

I wasn't able to catch it, does anyone have a link?
Here you go but be warned, I have heard that this was going to be very controversial and reminiscent of Tiananmen Square, or something the Soviets would do in Red Square. Some said Trump is following in the footsteps of his new little buddy Kim Jong Un.

Of course when I watched it I didn't see any of that, but you may want to be cautious anyway.

They're not teleported to the stateperson's seat, remember.
They drive through the city streets on their way there and back, and people gather around the fences to watch and photograph them. And for obvious reasons, they're much closer to the spectators than the aircraft.
