Then WHY did Trump bring it up in his tweet from May 9th? Was it his function then?
To Trump, his function is to investigate past presidents whom he disagrees with to distract the American people, but not to be investigated for potentially breaking the law, because he's the president.

Then WHY did Trump bring it up in his tweet from May 9th? Was it his function then?
Let's be clear about a few things. To ask why is to ask motivations. Motivations are among the most difficult things to understand, explain or prove. Next, we all know Trump is a defective man in oh so many ways. About the only thing he is good at is stirring things up. Out of the chaos, he can make the timeworn call for public safety justifying executive action. A thousand tyrants have walked this path.

Edit: If you were to press me about his motivation, I'd say revenge comes to mind.

It's not the function of a president to accuse people of crimes. That might be prejudicial to a pending case. To accuse is the job of the justice department, the attorney general, special prosecutors etc.
This is fun.

May 23, 2019 [Speech at farmers event]: "But should she lose, we'll have an insurance policy, and we'll get this guy out of office. And that's what they said, and that's what they meant. That's treason. That's treason. They couldn't win the election, and that's what happened. And that's what's happening right now because -- without the "treason" word, I guess -- but that's what's happening now."

May 20, 2019 [Rally]: "It's his fault, no, it's his fault. Now, we caught 'em. They were spying -- they were spying on our campaign. I'll tell you what, if that ever happened to the other side, this thing would have been over two years ago, and you know it would have been treason. They would have called it treason and that's what it is. It was treason and it should never be allowed to happen to another President again ever, ever, ever."

May 17, 2019 [Tweet]: "My Campaign for President was conclusively spied on. Nothing like this has ever happened in American Politics. A really bad situation. TREASON means long jail sentences, and this was TREASON!"

May 12, 2019 [Tweet]: "The Democrats new and pathetically untrue sound bite is that we are in a “Constitutional Crisis.” They and their partner, the Fake News Media, are all told to say this as loud and as often as possible. They are a sad JOKE! We may have the strongest Economy in our history, best employment numbers ever, low taxes & regulations, a rebuilt military & V.A., many great new judges, & so much more. But we have had a giant SCAM perpetrated upon our nation, a Witch Hunt, a Treasonous Hoax. That is the Constitutional Crisis & hopefully guilty people will pay!"

May 8, 2019 [Tweet]: "Everyone wants to know who needs to be accountable, because it took up two years of our lives talking about this Russian involvement. It proved No Collusion, & people want to trace it back to see how this all happened?” @ainsleyearhardt@foxandfriends TREASONOUS HOAX!"

April 19, 2019 [Tweet]: "...big, fat, waste of time, energy and money - $30,000,000 to be exact. It is now finally time to turn the tables and bring justice to some very sick and dangerous people who have committed very serious crimes, perhaps even Spying or Treason. This should never happen again!"

April 10, 2019 [Pool spray with South Korea president]: "And I know a lot of people were very disappointed, but they knew the real answer. You know, when the Democrats go behind the scenes and they go into a room backstage and they sit and they talk, they laugh because they know it's all a big scam, a big hoax. And it's called politics, but this is dirty politics and this is actually treason."

April 10, 2019 [Tweet]: "I think what the Democrats are doing with the Border is TREASONOUS. Their Open Border mindset is putting our Country at risk. Will not let this happen!"

April 10, 2019 [Tweet]: "So, it has now been determined, by 18 people that truly hate President Trump, that there was No Collusion with Russia. In fact, it was an illegal investigation that should never have been allowed to start. I fought back hard against this Phony & Treasonous Hoax!"

April 10, 2019 [Press gaggle]: "And they got caught. And what they did was treason. What they did was terrible. What they did was against our Constitution and everything we stand for. So hopefully that will happen. There is a hunger for that to happen in this country like I have never seen before, including all of the millions of people that voted for me. What they did was disgraceful.'"

April 6, 2019 [Tweet]: "Why should I be defending a fraudulent Russian Witch Hunt. It’s about time the perpetrators of this fraud on me and the American People start defending their dishonest and treasonous acts. How and why did this terrible event begin? Never Forget!"

April 2, 2019 [Pool spray with NATO chief]: "And I hope that's going to continue forward because people did things that were very, very bad for our country and very, very illegal and, you could even say, "treasonous." Okay?"

March 27, 2019 [Interview with Sean Hannity]: "So he didn't want to do anything because he thought that Clinton was going to win and he didn't want to upset the apple cart. But he knew about it. And the question is, one of the many, many questions, and this is probably not as big as other questions, because you are talking about major, major treason and corruption."

March 25, 2019 [Pool spray with Israeli prime minister]: "It's lasted a long time. We're glad it's over. It's 100 percent the way it should have been. I wish it could have gone a lot sooner, a lot quicker. There are a lot of people out there that have done some very, very evil things, very bad things. I would say treasonous things against our country."

Feb. 18, 2019 [Tweet]: “The biggest abuse of power and corruption scandal in our history, and it’s much worse than we thought. Andrew McCabe (FBI) admitted to plotting a coup (government overthrow) when he was serving in the FBI, before he was fired for lying & leaking.” @seanhannity@FoxNews Treason!

Feb. 18, 2019 [Tweet]: "There is a lot of explaining to do to the millions of people who had just elected a president who they really like and who has done a great job for them with the Military, Vets, Economy and so much more. This was the illegal and treasonous “insurance policy” in full action!"

Sept. 6, 2018 [Interview with FOX]: "Well number one, The Times should never have done that, because really what they've done is, virtually, you know it's treason. You can call it a lot of things. But to think that you have somebody in all of the Cabinet, so many people. You know, they came forward, they're writing editorials. They're all saying, you know, it's gotta be at a fairly low level."

Sept. 6, 2018 [Rally]: "I mean, you look at the Washington Post or the New York Times, I can never get a good story. I mean, you look at this horrible thing that took place today, it's really -- is it subversion? Is it treason? It's a horrible thing. Even -- you know the good thing about that? Even liberals that hate me say that's terrible what they did. And it is really terrible."

Sept. 5, 2018 [Tweet]: "TREASON?"

Sept. 3, 2018 [Interview with Daily Caller]: "I mean they were surveilling my campaign. If that happened on the other foot, they would've considered that treasonous. They would've considered that spying at the highest level."

June 23, 2018 [Interview with Mike Huckabee]: "Well, first of all, we came to a wonderful agreement [with North Korea]. It's a shame that the fake news covers it the way they do. Honestly, it's almost treasonous, if you want to know the truth, because we signed an agreement and the big thing that they'd said was I met, okay? You know, there was nothing else they could say. I met. Well, let me tell you we got our hostages back, we get the remains back of our great heroes that have died, thousands and thousands of young people."

Feb. 5, 2018 [Speech]: "It got to a point where I really didn’t even want to look up too much during the [State of the Union] over to that side because honestly, it was bad energy. Even on positive news, really positive news like that, they were like death and un-American. Un-American. Somebody said treasonous. I mean, yeah, I guess, why not."

Jan. 11, 2018 [Interview with WSJ]: "And what went on with the FBI, where a man is tweeting to his lover that if she loses, we’ll essentially go back to the—we’ll go to the insurance policy, which is—if they lose, we’ll go to phase 2, and we’ll get this guy out of office. I mean, this is the FBI we’re talking about. I think that is—that is treason. See, that’s treason right there. ... By the way, that’s a treasonous act. What he tweeted to his lover is a treasonous act."

To protect @Dotini's delicate sensibilities regarding "off-topic" material in the Coronavirus thread I moved this reply to the America thread.

Of course honest questions are not provocation. Her question is far from honest though. I would really like to ask her what answer she expected. "Why it needs to be a competition when so many people are dying?" Do you really believe this is a honest question?
Yes. It doesn't need to be a competition.
That somehow an answer to that question would give anything to the table?
Yes. It would bring to the table why he lied about America having the best testing regime and the highest rates of testing.
Of course she didn't know she was on camera. And of course she didn't wanted to show the rest of the world she has Chinese origins specially after she heard the "ask China". Despite the mic was just in front of her. But of course she is now a victim.
Clearly Trump is the real victim here.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how y'all think this is his fault...
Where did it come from again?
I still think this is Un's Xmas present just via China.
No one is saying that Trump is responsible for all 85,000 deaths, but had Trump acted much sooner than he did and not downplay the virus, there likely wouldn't be as many deaths. I know you're a Trump supporter but it's OK to admit when your preferred candidate does something wrong.

Saying things like this doesn't help.
“So we have the best testing in the world,” Trump said. “It could be the testing’s, frankly, overrated? Maybe it is overrated.”

“We have more cases than anybody in the world, but why? Because we do more testing,” Trump said. “When you test, you have a case. When you test you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few cases. They don’t want to write that. It’s common sense. We test much more.”
The infection doesn't disappear if you don't test, it's still out there.

So could Italy, Germany, Spain etc... what difference does it make who it was at this point?

And done what exactly?

When he put travel restriction on China back in January, the Dims called him a racist and a xenophobe.

By the time Trump placed travel restrictions on China, there were already cases in the United States. National security advisers had warned Trump, in early January, that the virus would quickly reach the US, yet he didn't take action until Jan. 31st. He did nothing to address the testing shortages, and waited until mid-March to declare a National Emergency, which would allow extra funding/aid. In late February, while the virus was ravaging China, S. Korea, Japan, Italy, Spain, etc, Trump commented "it's pretty close to airtight. It will disappear".

Not to mention a Pew research poll reveals that 2/3 of Americans believe that Trump acted too late. That means, even some Republicans disagreed.

Also, since when did any DiMocRaT say that restricting travel with China was "racist" or "xenophobic". This was literally the solution that the World Health Organization proposed that Trump initially ignored. I've not heard one Democrat politician or prominent commentator claim that there's racism in doing that. Are you just pulling that out of your ass now?

For starters, Trump could've not pushed the narrative that the virus was a hoax created by the Democrats. He could've also put a stop to FEMA bogarting PPE and seizing shipments coming into the US of valuable supplies.

Some things I agree with Trump on, mainly that China is to blame for COVID-19 and that the WHO pandered too much to China in the beginning. However, he still hasn't been an effective leader through all this and has continuously ignored science and touted things that didn't have the proper research done on it. Hydroxychloroquine could or could not be an effective treatment, we still don't know. When Trump goes around touting it like it's a proven cure, that's a problem. Also, when he says things like maybe we should inject ourselves with disinfectant, that's also a problem. He was probably joking, but even he has to know that half of all Americans are below average intelligence and will lap up what he's saying.

Trump could also do more to no incite dissidence in various states. Tweeting things like "Liberate Michigan" isn't helpful and all it's done is caused a bunch of redneck wannabe operators to storm the Michigan Capitol Building while waving their guns around like it's somehow going to do something. Michigan needs a stay at home order and they need a tight lockdown since it's one of the most infected places in the country.

Trump would never say anything to condemn the protests because these people are die-hard Trump supporters. It's for the same reason why Trump didn't condemn the Charlottesville rally until four days later, being that even Republican politicians were criticizing him for taking action. Plus, it doesn't help when Betsy and Dick Devos are funding these protests.

There is a woman here in Dallas who is a self-run practice physician who went up during an anti-lockdown rally, talking about the "truth". She says she gave her patients hydroxychloroquine & they all recovered (she did not say how many she treated or their side-effects). She said it is not FDA approved, but that the FDA can kiss her ass. She said she was filling the prescriptions for those patients and the pharmacy began asking what the medicine was for? She claimed it was confidential to begin with but said they wouldn't give her the medicine if she didn't disclose a reason or if she said it was Covid. So, she started giving out false information to the pharmacy that it was for other reasons so they would fill the prescriptions.

Who did she say told her hydroxychloroquine was the cure? Trump.

You've said this before. Near as I can tell, you've said nothing else of Trump's actions to mitigate the virus' effect on the population of the United States.

However, his message in January (indeed well into February and possibly even March; it does all tend to blur together) was very much one of "this is not a problem." So why the ban if the virus wasn't a big deal? When one considers his positions on immigration on the whole, one wonders if it was meant to mitigate public health impact at all.

...

Trumpism, man.

All three major U.S international airlines (American, Delta, United) had already suspended flights to and from China when the restrictions were enacted. That made the order redundant at that point.

It hasn't gone away like magic nor have cases gone down to zero.

Quite, uh... quite the opposite.

It's certainly some magic mathematics being used. Or markers being sniffed, who knows at this point...

No President in the history of presidents has such a talent for magic and mathematics than Donald J. Trump, of course. Believe me.

Now I'm contemplating the making of this. He clearly doesn't have these skills so who did he tell to make this tweet for him? This is hilarious
