*GASP*

If that pace keeps up, gas will be 17 dollars/gallon in a year!!!!

AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!
The station next to where I work was $2.63 when I left last night and $2.85 this morning. I would hate to see the chaos if that were a steady pace.

Fortunately my usual truck stop/gas station place along the interstate on the way to and from work was still $2.53. I think the price difference is worth the wait in line.

(BTW, just bought a new Civic EX 4-door tonight. EPA 40 MPG highway! I'm amazed at how luxurious and well-equipped econoboxes are now.)

Congrats!! I've been looking at those myself. They seem like really great bargains. 40mpg and a low sticker price on a good looking reliable car... pretty attractive.

That's all true. But they handle like junk compared to the coupe. I mean total junk. However, if you don't need that in your car, then no problem. :)

I'll say:

Err...Ummm...Whatever you say, but I whipped it around a bit last night, and it feels like a go-kart to me.

Meanwhile, back at the Chevron station:

April 12

I wonder if this station is being used as some sort of marketing test or something, to see what sort of outrageousness they can get away with. I mean, four increases in four days? This has to be an experiment, right?

@Swift: compared to which coupe? The Si? That would figure!

We've just gotten them here. Look pretty nifty, but somehow not as groundbreakingly new as I'd hoped... except for that puzzlingly infuriating double dash. Still miles better than the soft-riding bubble-boy Corolla wannabe the last one was.

I'm really looking at a Honda Fit or maybe even a Ford Focus Turbodiesel as a new car by the end of the year or by next year. I was thinking of the Civic, but I think I like the Fit's looks a bit better, and it's something you can wring out to the redline without using any gas at all (it's downright weird, that way... )... the Focus TDCi would also save me at the pumps, but it costs a lot (being turbodiesel) and God knows how long it'll be before diesel demand goes through the roof and the prices for that skyrocket.

I know, but what I'm saying is that it's not even the same car. Not even close. I explained it in detail to Zardoz in a PM as to not take this thread further of topic :sly:

seeing that chevron sign made me laugh. in ONE day, i watched my local gas station change the price 3 times. the price of gas went up 24 cents in ONE day...horrible. right now, i dont plan on driving anywhere i dont have to. being a poor college student has its downfalls.my bicycle will work fine for where i need to go. are any of you giving up a little bit of driving???

What is cracking me up about that Chevron sign is I know some guy is out there with the suction cup pole changing numbers everytime.

It seems like every other station around here is switching to digital signs. That way they change with the pumps without delay.

U.S. versions -

Fit - 38 MPG
Civic - 40 MPG

Go figure...

That's because all you guys get is the VTEC version... the 1.3 iDSi can hit between 60 and 70 mpg on the highway (I've actually seen this... and that's with the AC on  )... while the 1.5 VTEC can get over 50 mpg... actually, the VTEC guys can get 35+ MPG on the highway while cruising at extralegal speeds... I have no idea why the EPA rating is so low (usually, the EPA estimate is actually optimistic).

I've heard the new Civic 1.8 is supposed to be efficient. I'm waiting for figures off the street to learn how it actually compares to the Fit in the real world.

And with that... I'm taking Swift's cue on OTness and dropping the subject.

--- ON-TOPIC ---

Gads, what's driving up your prices? We haven't had an increase all month!

And I'm not asking for the general reason... just the reason for this current spike.

Well, according to the guy on the radio this morning (I think he was with AAA) America is seeing it because some of the gulf refineries still aren't back to 100% yet and so when refineries in the Middle East are having troubles it hurts us.

I'm surprised we haven't been given the routine maintenance line yet. Oh wait, Memorial Day is in May. I forgot that and the 4th of July always have "routine maintenance" going on and spiking prices.

Although we did actually drop 3 cents here in Kentucky today. I think it is at $2.79 here right now. I am getting gas on my way home, I'll snap a shot.

Here's what I paid this afternoon. You guys need to move to a flyover state.

Errh... won't the final total be dependent on the price of increase? I mean, at least partially?

What's the next expected support level? 80 bucks?

Damn, and my wife still won't let me get a bike. :indiff: Glad we've got a buffer supply over here, haven't felt the price increase yet.

Just be patient. You'll catch up with us soon...
Well, based on your latest picture you all are going up and we are currently going down. It'll take a while to catch up at that rate.

Zardoz
Lucky ducks! Good for you.

That's pretty amazing in light of this:
I know. I need to get gas on the way home and I hope they don't change prices until tonight.

Well, I think the rate is important, too... if it goes up slowly enough, I can get rid of a car or two for cash to fuel the others for the next... month or so.

Generally i am anti-capitalist and anti-globalisation but i have to say that the idea of apologising to future generations for using up the earths fossil fuel reserves is stupid.

fuel technology is in its infancy, we have used fossil fuels in the way neolithic man used stone tools. Its a nesseccary technological stepping stone to research fuels that will provide future generations with a clean and healthier enviroment than the one we currently exist in. They should be grateful. what will they use fossil fuels for if they have solar/wind/nuclear?

No, we have left them a legacy to be proud of in terms of technology.

Sure, we have used fuels in the same way our ancestors used the first tools, funny thing is that they didn't use all the rocks.

They also didn't have over 6 billion people.
