^ Hi Dave. Thanks a lot for your comments. I appreciate your willingness to forego new features to help others get them sooner.

At the time I promised the transmission tuner and other features, the app was supported on any iOS device capable of running iOS 4.0 and above. If I were to abandon the older devices now I would be breaking a promise to those customers and I just can't do that. Besides, I am already very deep into the solution I need for all hardware so to change course now would take longer than pushing through.

My plan is to implement all features that have been promised thus far before I drop support for older devices. At that point I will update the app to support the iPhone 5 screen and thanks to Apple I will have no choice but to drop legacy hardware support then, as the developer tools required for iPhone 5 support do not allow compilation for the armv6 chipset - which is what is needed for devices like the iPhone 3G. I have sent my objections to Tim Cook but I doubt he's listening :grumpy:

How long do you have before they force legacy support to end? I have to assume that will be iOS 7? They have a ton of bugs with iOS 6 that still need to be fixed.

Did I read that right that anything less than the A6 chip will have support cut? So that means they will only have support for iPhone 5 and future devices? This would affect iPads and iPods too. Any day now I'm going to be buying our friend's iPad 2.

If PD had a social media rep that interacted with us like you do, who knows how greatly improves GT5 would be!

Well here is where things stand right now with iOS device support:

If an app developer wants to support the iPhone 5 screen layout, support for the following devices must be dropped:

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPod Touch 1st Generation
iPod Touch 2nd Generation

(That's right Dave - your 3GS is in the clear :))

It is possible that sometime later this year Apple may stop accepting binaries for the above devices but as of right now we can continue to support them if we are prepared to trade off the iPhone 5 screen support.

I don't expect the iPad 2 to go on the chopping block for quite some time as it currently is using an armv7 architecture chip and can run iOS 6.

Note: armv6/armv7 can be confusing. e.g. armv6 does not refer to the A6 chip, which is an armv7-based chip. Just know that only the devices listed above are in danger of completely losing support as they are being pushed out the door with the introduction of iOS 6.

Well shucks. Thanks Dave 👍

Just bought it for my iPad mini. Took me ages to find it, I hadn't switched to iPhone apps in the App Store...

Do you plan on making a larger screen version? A tablet layout would be really nice for a future release, maybe menus down one side and the cars settings on the right of the screen.. Don't get me wrong, the x2 button is more than sufficient. The amount of effort you've put into this is admirable in the very least, app's price is an absolute bargain to say what has been put in.

I'll feedback my 'larger screen' experiences as soon as I've used it for a bit :)

Cheers for the app :) gonna make life so much easier.

Thanks a lot Pot Luck. Love the avatar :D

I'm not planning an iPad version just yet although I may do it some day just for fun. Right now I have plenty more work to do on new features.

I also wanted to announce that version 1.07 has just been submitted to Apple. This update just includes a couple of bug fixes:

- The home screen help button would only work during the first launch of the app after an update or fresh install. No-one noticed this so I guess that's a good sign? ;)

- The weight distribution calculation on the ballast edit screen did not properly take into account weight changes to the car's main weight setting, and was getting confused with subsequent ballast changes. 1.07 rectifies that.

Hi Brendan, what happened to the expected option to change units for torque and power?

Erm, nothing unfortunately. Let me do some digging into it over the next day or so and I'll see if it is something I can knock out fairly quickly. The dang transmission tuner has gotten in the way of quite a few items on my to-do list. Sorry.

So far so good mate. I also downloaded praiano's Android app.

So I can take a tune from there and intune it to almost any car.

I feel really geeky right now lol.

Only bug bear for me is the torque is in kgfm whereas on GT5 it is in lb-ft.

Understood. I'm actually going to work on that next week and I hope to have an update out by the end of the week. My brain needs a break from the TT image processing anyway.

If anyone else here is using torque units other than kgf or lb-ft please let me know and I'll be sure to include it. I'm guessing Nm is available in parts of Europe? I don't have access to the various international flavors of GT5 so I can't confirm this myself. Also please let me know exactly how the game spells the unit and the number of decimal places used to represent the value.

Thanks!

Good evening, I'm from Spain and I just bought gtune 5. In europe the torque is measured in nw / m for ft / lbs is multiplied by 1.355.
One thing I miss is that the transmission will automatically be placed according to the circuit or group of circuits you chose not just copy the default of another car. This also applies to the suspension.
Anyway is a great application.
Congratulations on your work.
Sorry for my English but google translator is not very good. lol

Thanks chusmm and welcome to gtplanet!

Here are the torque units I can display on my system:

ft-lb
Nm
Kgm

Please let me know if you see anything different on your system.

I will include an option to convert existing tune values to your preferred unit if necessary. It will be a popup screen asking you to specify the unit that matches your tunes current torque values and it will do whatever conversion is necessary so that from then on any changes in torque will be able to display the correct values. For example, if you have basically been ignoring the ft-lb label and storing your torque values in Nm, you should select Nm in that popup. On the other hand, if you have been converting your in-game values to ft-lb for use in the app (sorry) then you should select ft-lb in that popup. From then on, whenever you change the torque unit in the new settings screen, the values will be displayed as expected.

Update 1.08 will include this new settings screen and it will be submitted by then end of this week.

This looks like a good app not only for the intune function, but to store my setups instead of writing them all down.

Is there a way of exporting these to backup? If I was to have a phone issue and need to reinstall the ios then id lose all my saved setups when i reinstalled the app?

Hi JB,
If you sync your iPhone with either your desktop through iTunes or via iCloud, your tunes will also be backed up. If you have a hardware failure or decide to upgrade your phone, you can restore from the latest backup.
At some point I will be including a way to share tunes so that would allow a manual backup of sorts. However, it would be much more difficult to backup that way than through the approach mentioned above.

Brendan.

I dont tend to do backups to itunes as I jail break. I usually totally reinstall the ios and all the apps, which means I lose progress in games (if not gamecentre) and app stuff like this one. That is my issue though to be honest. I have not wiped my phone in over 6 months as im on old ios 5 and happy with my phone setup.

So how about an import/export feature for backup, readable as a text file?

Also I would like to use this on an ipad and iphone, a sync option would be good or the import export option so I could have the same tunes on both devices and use either.

Got it. I was under the impression that you could still use iCloud to backup a jailbroken phone but I haven't tried it myself. Something to do with import/export is definitely on my to-do list and I'll look into the sync idea. It won't be anytime real soon though to be honest.

Check "Today's Iphone" on YouTube. The jailbreak for 6.1 just hit. It's super simple! I set my 3GS free after I get a new phone.

Just to let you know yesterday I bought the app 👍

Impressed with your customer service and willingness to interact 👍

Thanks a lot JB. Believe me - I need the transmission tuner to be done as much as anyone, possibly more. It's driving me a little crazy but this week's focus on the torque settings has give me a much needed break so hopefully a fresh perspective next week will help me push it over the edge.

Speaking of the torque units - I could use some input from any of you that would use anything other than ft-lb:

I had planned to include a one-time option to convert the existing torque values in your tunes to your torque unit of choice, but now I'm not so sure that would be a good idea. To start with, it would only be useful if for example you had been effectively ignoring the ft-lb label in the app and just storing your torque values according to how you see them in the game, such as in Nm or Kgm. Have any of you been doing that?

My concern is that the option could easily cause confusion, particularly for non-English speakers, since the app is not (yet) translated. For those folks, such an option could easily be confused as an opportunity to just set their desired torque unit. The end result of that could be that their torque values would unnecessarily go through a conversion and would get messed up as a result.

The app will always store torque values in ft-lb behind the scenes, but it will display them in whatever unit you have chosen in the new settings screen. So what do you think - is a one-time conversion option important to any of you or can I assume you have been storing your torque in ft-lb all along, regardless of your in-game setting?

Brendan.

Yes you reminded me Brendan, torque units. On my GT5 UK pal copy i have 'kgfm' listed which is a total pain to have to keep converting to lb ft every time I make a new tune.

Having to intune step 1 update car specifications every time is bad enough without having to open up the web browser and convert also but its not the end of the world if an update is coming.

Well isn't that awesome - it is shown as Kgm on my system

Anyway - that is what I see when I selected Brazilian Portuguese, which is the only language pack available in my North American copy of GT5 that uses the kilogram force per meter unit. It's probably safe to say that "kgfm" is more widely used if that is the one in the UK copy. Unless I hear otherwise I'll use that instead of "Kgm". They are the same unit and I don't want to clutter up the U.I. by having multiple variations.

Thanks for the info JB.

Edit: The new settings screen should be submitted to Apple tomorrow afternoon and will hopefully be available early next week.

Yea just going to say its the same thing isnt it?

For example my MX5 has 20 kgfm of toruqe = 144.660277 ft lbs

Looking forward to the update.

Just got my head round this app, the intune system is only for suspension, its leaving the camber the same as the base tune - that's something I have to select per track and per my driving style. The rest of the options just for storing setups are good, but there needs to be a back up method or an export into text file or something.

Its a good idea and I did give it a proper test with a new car, tested it on fixed sports - awful. Tested it using a base tune of a car I know is quick - drove much better this time. Of course that's just a base setup, the rest of the work has to be done by the user as per their driving style.

Its certainly a help while im learning setups and 'where to start' as it were, at least with this I have a vague idea what a setup should be for FF etc.

I just wanted to clarify this a little. Although the camber does not change, the other suspension components are setup to match the existing camber choice so be aware of that when you start making camber changes. For example, a certain camber may not work so well if you significantly soften a car's suspension as the resulting contact patch of the tire under cornering load will change due to the increased deflection of the springs. If you find you need to increase mechanical grip you could soften the suspension AND increase camber a little, testing it to see what works. Making camber changes in isolation could result in less than desirable handling.

Thanks again for supporting the app JB. Have fun and let me know if you have any questions.

I think your reading my mind now... that was just something I was pondering in my head. I wondered if the intune took into account the camber and then copied it over but reliant on the fact the spring rates would then be changed along with camber.

Luckily that's what I did and its worked well. Just so you know Brendan I decided to use this app at its rawest, I got an eunos 89' for the TT and did some laps.

Got my time, tried fixed suspension and as I had severly lightend the car and added much more power this suspension was rubbish. I used the app to intune a copy of a similiar car suspension setup (not an example tune but one of my own which I know works well for small lightweight but quick FR cars). It worked much better and I could acutally understand the suspenjsion settings and how they effected teh car.

By becoming 'involved' in the process its helping to learn tuning. Very good base so as far as im concerned thats the apps job done.

I didnt stop there though as while I love a very direct front end I do like grip too and decided the springs could be a little softer to gain grip but keep the response. So i used the app to adjust them maintaining spring balance, as the overall feel was good.

This worked well and I gained half a second. I then thought about the camber issue we just mentioned and I added a little more camber again. Another quicker time.

Im now learning to tune in more detail for myself and using the app to save the settings. So its worked well for me for two different things.

The best thing is taking a car and hitting consistent times with stock suspension, then addin an intune and feeling the change and looking at the numbers and working out WHY. Before a base setup was hard to achieve as I had no idea where to start!

Now the hard work begins but it began with a base setup that felt right for me which lets me be quicker.
