Wow, ok, thats some handy advice. Thanks much Dave. Will do some shopping around tomorrow then. The store I was at did say I would get a better deal if I went to a corporate store in Ann Arbor or Toledo, Ohio. I'm kinda in the middle of each of them now. Recently moved to Irish Hills area. Anyway, thanks for the tips guys, you've been very helpful.

Both AT&T & Verizon are pushing Shared Data right now. It becomes really beneficial when you have quite a few devices. It eliminates a minute pool + each additional line + text plan + data plan. We have 5 phones ($10 for each of 4 lines) on ours, 700 minutes (with about 2000 in roll over), texting plan, 3 grandfathered unlimited data plans $30 each, 2 2gb plans for $25 each. If I got us on a shared plan with 1gb each, we'd save $50. If you are on wifi 90% of the time like me, 1gb is not an issue. I'm lucky to use 300mb of cell data a month. My wife usually goes about 1 to 1.5. She streams radio while driving to work. And then she's on Facebook during breaks and whatnot.

Weigh your options. You could always take advantage of a 30 day return policy to see if you like the phone. Once you get into it, you'll be glad you did. The 4s is a really good phone, if you decide an i5 is too expensive or whatever. I have a few friends with it. The i4 is nice too. But the "s" stands for SPEED. The 3GS and 4s are much faster than their predecessors.

You are very welcome Mitch!

Goober, I have to assume the app will support iOS6 on day one?

That's the plan, the only part I'm unsure of obviously is iPhone 5 support. Gotta wait to see what Apple has to say next week.

I just now bought the Toyota 2000GT! Let me clean it up and I'll put it on Share.

Gotta love it when things fall into place :). All I was doing was trying to buy every car in the game and it showed up.

Nice!! Thanks Dave.

I'm happy to announce version 1.03 has been approved and should be available in the App Store very soon. This version includes a large update to the supported standard cars. You can see the full list here: http://www.gtune5.com/SupportedCars.pdf

Version 1.04 will be submitted soon and will complete support for all remaining cars.

I hate to say this guys but it looks like there might be a problem with iOS 4.x devices yet again. If you are running on iOS 4.x please do not update just yet.

Just this morning an iOS 4.x user let me know that the app was crashing after updating to 1.03. I immediately repeated earlier tests I had done upgrading from 1.02 to 1.03 on my test iPhone 3G and I had no problems. Just to be certain all was well, I then removed the app from the phone and installed fresh from the App Store (which listed version 1.03). This time the app would crash when I hit the Tunes button - just as it did in version 1.0 and 1.01. Of course I immediately thought - oh crap, did I somehow back out the code changes I made in 1.02 to fix this? Nope - they are all still present. Then I noticed something very odd - although I had just installed version 1.03 from the App Store, it was telling me there was an update available, also supposedly 1.03 :nervous: OK - I installed the update and this time I could see the App's Launch screen, which was introduced in 1.02 but did not show up from my fresh 1.03 install just moments before. Unfortunately the app then crashed after displaying the launch screen.

Finally, I again deleted the app and re-installed. This time I was careful to not try launching the app until after I had gone back into the App Store and installed the "update" which should not even be there in the first place. After all this, the app will launch and work just fine! The problem with this approach is you lose any tunes you have already stored in the app.

At this point I have no idea what is going on with the App Store but I am looking into it and I will report back here asap.

This seems to be a problem on Apple's end. I'm sorry about this. I have contacted them asking for a fast resolution. This does not seem to be a problem with recent hardware as it looks like the binary Apple have somehow messed up is strictly for older devices such as iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd gen. Anything more recent than that should be fine but if you want to hold off on updating just to be sure, I will post back here with more info as I get it.

For what it's worth - I updated my iPhone 4S from the App Store and had no problems.

That's a shame, no problems with the update on iPad. Just want to say how impressed I am at how quickly you're adding the standard cars

Thanks. To put it mildly I am pretty furious with Apple right now. The language I want to use is I'm sure against the AUP so I'll refrain :banghead:

Thanks to DaveTheStalker's help the car database is now complete and will be available in version 1.04 asap :)

One more update for iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 2nd generation users: I have not yet had a response from Apple and the binary being provided in the App Store is still an old version which does not work. Since Apple are no doubt preparing for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 release next week, I'm not very hopeful of getting a response before the weekend. However, I do have a plan:

If you have already updated on one of the impacted devices and your app is now crashing, you have a couple of choices:

1. Delete the app, re-install from the App Store and update again before launching the app. This will result in the loss of any existing tunes.

2. Wait for version 1.04. I am working on some code that I believe will work around the situation created by this App Store problem and I am hopeful that it will allow you to update to 1.04, retaining your existing tunes and get back to a functioning state. I will finish this code and test over the weekend and I will aim to have it ready for submission to Apple before they start work on Monday morning. I will then request an expedited review, which I'm hopeful they will grant under the circumstances. It may also be in my favor that they will no doubt be actively trying to clear the app review queue in advance of the iOS 6 launch.

Needless to say, if you are using an iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2nd gen, do NOT update to version 1.03 if you haven't already done so. I have updated the 1.03 description text you would see when viewing available updates in the App Store to reflect this.

If there is anything positive to come from this, it might mean that the full car database could be in everyone's hands sooner than I thought possible.

Stay tuned.......

Good thing I had an early birthday present from the wifey,an iPad. I moved all the tunes there from my old iphone before the 1.03 update, wheww.

pgagoober
Glad you weren't impacted - happy early birthday :)

I did update my iphone early this morning same time with the ipad but didn't check it till after lunch and it did crash. Thanks for the greeting.

Hey guys I wanted to say pgagoober was nice enough to test this app out for me and created a tune based on what I asked for with the app. I changed literally only the rear tires and made a transmission and the rest is all app built. It is a drift tune also which I didn't really think this app would be able to do, but it did an amazing job with it. The car is a Art Morrison Corvette '60 and here is the tune if you would like to test it out to see how it did. I haven't even put this tune up for the public yet so this is the only link at the moment so you can get a feel for how the app did. Just realize that this car is an insane beast to drift with and probably not for beginners.

Might this be consistent enough to be a feature in the app, Race or Drift tunes?

Yes and no. The app is not designed to generate any particular type of tune, since to do so would require making assumptions about what constitutes a good race tune, rally tune etc. It's not possible to do that in a way that will suit everyone's setup preferences. That's why I set out to create a system which would adapt existing tunes, rather than attempt to create new tunes from scratch. Since the user can choose the tune they want to adapt, any generated tunes will be matched to their preferences.

I do intend to include more sample tunes in the app, so users who do not already have some tunes they like for specific circumstances will have a larger selection of base tunes to choose from. I will include Rally and Drift sample tunes asap for that purpose. That will be of most use to those who have previously shied away from tuning due to its complexity. Anyone who has been tuning for a while will likely get best results from using their own tunes as input to the inTune generation process. Those tunes can be for race, rally, drift etc. The app doesn't care what the tune's purpose is, it just focuses on producing the same handling characteristics on your target car.

Hi pgagoober, can you help me?

Just downloaded it formy iphone 4s and still dont get the itune feature. When I use it, it just takes all the tune settings from car a to car b without changing anything. Am I doing somethimg wrong?

It may seem that way at first glance. The app is designed to configure the suspension so that the tune's other settings such as LSD, brake balance, etc can be used without modification. This was one of several approaches I tested during development and it provided the best results by a substantial margin. It also allows you to easily migrate certain configuration tweaks across multiple cars if you wish. Let's say you have a bunch of FR cars all based on the same original tune. If while testing one of the cars on-track you realize you can get better results with a slight tweak to the LSD setup, you can make the same tweak to the other tunes and get similar results without worrying about modifying other suspension settings. The same goes for brake balance or even aero - although aero can get a little more tricky depending on the available adjustment range. That said, when using inTune, if you happen to choose a car with the same weight and weight distribution as the base tune's car then you will probably see the exact same settings in the generated tune, but that will be a very rare situation. Note that it will still work however :)

Make sure you have set the new vehicle's specs correctly in Step 1 of the inTune process, then compare the resulting suspension settings to the base tune's suspension settings. You should notice the differences. Ideally, only a few settings such as ride height and spring rates will differ, as that means the target car is adjustable enough to exactly replicate the base tune's chassis. As the app starts to hit tuning limits however, you will see changes in the other suspension values to compensate.

If you like, send me a PM with the specs of the car you are trying to tune and which base tune you are using for it. I'll check it out and get back to you with a more specific breakdown.

Ok I got it now. I tried a 570hp/1232kg 458 tune on a 574/1244kg Enzo, maybe thats the reason why I got small changed

I tried the sample GT86 on a SL55 and this time difference was big! Does inTune also take the balance/aero from the base tune into account?
F.e. suggesting balance and suspension changes so a understeering Enzo behaves more like the 458?

inTune does not have the ability to accurately transfer aero settings across models for a few reasons. Not all cars have the same aero options available to them and to include the various options and require the user to specify them would add a lot of complexity to the app. Another problem is that a given amount of downforce will have a different effect on different cars, due to the difference in the tire contact patch available. The game does not expose the tire widths used, so attempting to model that would involve a lot of assumptions. This inevitably would cause problems with the output tunes.

What inTune does with aero is directly transfer the previous aero settings to the new tune. When editing the new tune you have an inTune aero assistant which will help you adjust the aero on the car while maintaining the same aero balance as was present on the original car.

You also mentioned balance - do you mean weight distribution? The app does take that into account, although it does not allow you to specify a modified ballast/weight distribution during the inTune tune-generation process. The assumption is that any ballast changes would most likely be made in response to online event requirements and as such would be temporary. In the event that you want to make ballast changes, the inTune Ballast assistant will allow you to do that while automatically updating the car's suspension settings to compensate. If you have a car that for whatever reason has a permanent ballast change, you should input the vehicle's weight without the ballast in Step 1 of the inTune process, and then use the inTune Ballast assistant to make the necessary changes to the generated tune.

As for getting the Enzo to behave more like the 458 - that is exactly what the app attempts to do. If you have a tune for the 458 and you use inTune to transfer it to the Enzo, you should get similar handling characteristics from the Enzo. If this is not happening, please send me the details of the 458 tune and the Enzo's basic specs and I'll look into it. More often than not, aero is the culprit, but let me know and we'll go from there.

I'm happy to report that version 1.04 has now been submitted to Apple. This version completes support for ALL cars in the game :) I also included some performance improvements with the app's launch.

As of right now, I have not had a response from Apple regarding the incorrect binary being provided for older devices so my advice stands - if you have an iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2nd gen, please wait for 1.04 to update. 1.04 will resolve the issues introduced by the 1.03 binary issue, even if you did already update to 1.03.

I have requested an expedited App Review from Apple but I have no idea if it will be granted. Fingers crossed.....
