I would probably die... OF LAUGHTER, people are so obsessed with facebook that I generally just avoid them. They're always talking about what they did on there. I hardly use fb these days, go on for about one minute when I get extremely bored. I would love to see these guys hack it. :)

Because most people in the world are really addict in that site.
Like playing Farmville,Pet Society etc... :grumpy:

Like people are addicted to... I don't know... video games and video game forums?

Addiction is an issue, yes, but that's the same issue people face with twitter, instant messaging, SMS, any internet forum or bulletin board, chat, videogames, television shows, tetris, tamagotchi...

Facebook is problematic but it's not all evil. It really does allow you to keep in contact with people you haven't seen for a long time. Facebook pages and groups can help organize get-togethers and actual, physical meetings... though I prefer such discussions to occur on private BBs. One Facebook group I'm in is actually planning to register a BB due to the interest.

And you can ignore Farmville/Mafia/etcetera requests.

If you don't like it, you can just ignore Facebook as a whole. And if it's taking over your life, you can simply just walk away. And if affects your office's functions, you can simply block it.

Anonymous need to realize that by the success/member count of facebook, there is a ton of stupid people out there that aren't worth saving.

Gee, I actually use FB to talk and share ideas with people I know. And that's it: I get to use it for free, so expect a little shared information (not sure what's been used, to be honest...nothing weird has occurred) and ignore/block the rest...I get the idea most of you have a very preconceived notion of Facebook being a haven of 15-year-olds, which is pretty much the same darn target audience as GTP, 'cept we're more of a sausage party.

Sounds to me they're just more interested in taking down the biggest site of them all. Wouldn't a better point be made by taking out a website about something malicious, racist, and/or totally amoral? I mean, then you're making a statement!

Yes I know, I was a FB addict before.I stopped being an addict since I joined video game forums. I only lurked my profile like 5-6 mins sometimes.

Btw why so many people in our country are so plenty of FB account XD.

Is it because of OFW.

Please don't speak in textspeak abbreviations. It's against the rules of the forum.

People are addicted to Facebook because Friendster got the axe. And yes, it makes contacting relatives overseas quite easy.

Oh thanks for the information. And what's textspeak abbreviations? Sorry I am new here.

I'm...kind of surprised. Haven't read this before?
You will not use “textspeak” (“r”, “u”, “plz”, etc.) in your messages.

On topic : How and in what way Anonymous will shutdown the 60.000 servers of Facebook? I don't even think 4chan is bigger than that.

November can't come soon enough!

Throughout the years it seems like we lose more and more rights, and now we have some modern age freedom fighters trying to do the right thing.

I don't agree with everything they do of course, but I appreciate the balance they maintain.

I hope Anonymous succeed. There are far too many people just staring at their phones all day and sitting at computers all day glued to sites like facebook.

Freedom fighters, my behind: Check out the situation in Libya right now.

The way I see it, people will eventually just move on to the next "social networking" Big Thing in the next few years (there will probably be another buzzword for it too). It's not as if we're guaranteed to be FB lifers, even if nothing happens to the site (which is another distinct possibility). I do not yet see my personal rights being taken away by Facebook; I can't even find myself on search engines via Facebook or Pipl...maybe I'm just smarter than the average bear (rather doubtful, a bear could take me in a fight).

Actually Anonymous know why Facebook is taking away our rights. The people at Facebook try to find your IP Address and when they do, they sell it to other companies and websites. Your IP is full of your history, downloads, etc. etc., and they will put either a virus or hack your computer incognito. Of course, you may not know, but they will. This happens to about 7% of the Facebook community, so you need not to worry.:sly:

EDIT: They actually put more malicious adverts on the site you visit so you can install keyloggers or malware etc. on your computer.

They can't just magically do that with your IP. Hell if Jordan wanted he can look up all our IPs. Unless your launching a .exe you some how managed to get from FB then you aren't going to get a virus. Keyloggers require stealthy installation, you don't get that from just visiting a website.

And it seems like people are 'addicted' to people 'addicted' to Facebook. Why the hell do you care what other people are addicted to. I keep a Facebook tab up when I'm on my comp at home, and go back to it from time to time or when I get messaged. Could I live without it? Easily, but it makes life much nicer. If we are going to start controlling things that people are addicted too, this website needs to go down along with every other internet forum. Next, the games, music, and practically every existing website. Will that make the world better? No, it would make the world less practical and wouldn't improve it in anyway shape or form.

Facebook, forums don't deteriorate social abilities, it improves them actually. Lets you talk with the masses a lot easier, tell me how the hell is that bad.

I could care less if the government knows what I put on Facebook.

I doubt it would happen because a lot of Anonymous members are on Facebook and use it to contact other Anon members. I have people on my friends list that are Anon members and talk about it all the ****ing time. Facebook is a huge part of their community.

Personally I don't get all the hate about Facebook. It's a website site like all the other networking sites, just more popular. I use it to stay connected with friends and relatives that I might otherwise lose touch with. As others have pointed out, FB can be customized to block annoying things like farmville etc.

People get so up in arms about all the "sensitive" information on FB that the company has access to, but let's be honest, if you don't wish to share certain info with others, don't post it up. To put in perspective, a simple google search on me would yield far more important information than what facebook has to offer. Facebook certainly does not force you to post up anything.

What rights have you lost? Did they take away your right to freedom of speech or any of your other constitutional rights? Did they violate your human rights? Has facebook militia forced you out of your village and taken away your livelihood? My guess is no. So they know that you like listening to Daft Punk, went to such and such primary school and have two sisters. Hardly the wealth of knowledge that will change the course of history if misused.

So they "use" your information to have target advertisement you say? Small price to pay for a free site. Plus would you prefer to see tampon advertisement or say something that at least interests you such as video games, camera or whatever hobby you have? Google has been doing this for years. Is it okay for one corporation to do it but not for another?

There are a lot of comments about facebook being "evil". Is it more evil than say Linkedin, twitter or google+? What is the measure?

Oh, so you're one of those people who actually click website ads? Do you take off your tinfoil hat when doing so?

Fixed.

Then again... don't stop coming to GTPlanet!

The big issue when the phone number thing came out is that Facebook automatically syncs contacts, so your phone number is available to all your friends.

Not that it matters to me... maybe matters to someone like Obama or Paris Hilton.

Otherwise... whatever information that is there that shouldn't be there is your own damn fault. Why post something on the internet if you don't want people to know it about you?

How many idiots have been caught cheating their girlfriends/boyfriends/insurance company/customers/etcetera because they posted it online? Dumbasses.

Wow... so they try to find out your IP address? Something that's readily available to every single website and webforum in the world? Something that Google has been using for years to create targeted google ads? Wow. Right now, I can see every single IP on this page, as a moderator. On my other site, I can see the IP of every single clickthrough visitor, whether or not they log-in. It ain't exactly rocket science, you know. With or without Facebook, your IP addy's activity is pretty well known online.

Go tinfoil!

EDIT: They actually put more malicious adverts on the site you visit so you can install keyloggers or malware etc. on your computer.

I take it you haven't seen ads before Facebook? I'm glad Anonymous doesn't know about GTPlanet, and the malicious porn ads and spam that pass the standard filters every so often.

Every single income-earning website in the world uses third-party ads. And every so often there's one or two malicious malware/adware ads that get past the filters. Facebook isn't any different from any other service.

Well if Anonymous succeed, there should appear at least 1 video on youtube of a kid screaming at his phone or computer before trying to smash it because he can't log into facebook, like the infamous german kid. Can't wait for that lol.

Dear Christ look at all the hate I'm getting :P Seriously didn't I say '7%'??? I didn't say OMG EVERY1 IS GOING 2 DIE FR0M GOIN 2 FACEBOOK!!!! Just like every website, people try to sell your IP Address to gain money, but Facebook is one of those sites where getting someone's IP will be relatively easy due to it's popularity. Anon has tried it, they told me, and they see much traffic and other links trying to pass through their IP even though nothing but Facebook was running.

Quit being so aggressive, I don't use Facebook because they deleted my account for no apparent reason, and I'm glad it got me out of it. xD

And... I also have Anon friends, my main point was that they aren't going to attack Facebook! I know, I've been to the IRC servers, chat rooms, even private meetings! Sick of them being stereotyped as 'hacking no-lifes', more of them being 'activists' rather than terrorists.

And your double posting. A lot of them are activists, yes. But some do more extra curricular activities then others, those are the ones that could be considered terrorists. Terrorists doesn't mean bombs and killing people. But leaking other peoples information is just as bad as some of the things corporations do.

I'll be laughing like crazy while I watch the world go into anarchy because Facebook was shut down.
World isn't going to go into anarchy. More people seem to hate Facebook book then not. Take a look at this thread; I'd say half the posts here represent some sort of joy of Facebook being taken down.

What good would come of it? None. IP sharing isn't really anything, but nothing is going to happen to anybodies computer from just selling IPs.

And this is active, malevolent data-farming by Facebook itself how? It's a security vulnerability. And it's one that needs to be addressed, yes. Yet, in the end, it's no different from any other site on the web, where you have to be careful about what you post. Since any one of the 1,000,000 friends on your friend list might actually not be your friend... or might have their account hacked, as their e-mail has been, as their forum log-in has been.

Honestly... again, my IP can be traced via any service I use, or any website I visit. You can run an IP trace and find out the general area I live in. If I'm stupid enough to post details I don't want known about myself linked to a site I log into via that IP address, you can pinpoint my address.

But if I didn't want people to know who I was, I would post under an anonymous name, use dynamic IPs (and a proxy site) and do absolutely nothing online. Hell.. thanks to IP-trace, I can hardly log on to half the sites in the world, because they block any Asian IP as a source of spam.

IP security is a concern maybe for that small subsection of the population that doesn't want people to know they're online... simply because much of what they do on it is illegal, whether it be torrenting pirated movies and/or music or hacking into other people's sites in their free time. And those people don't get on Facebook, anyway. So what's the point?

---

Being from a school that was a hotbed of activist activity back in the day (and having seen my share of tear gas and riots, thank you...) my view on the distinction between activist and terrorist is thus: Once you cross the line and actually harm another person (whether physically or through direct financial sabotage) just to get your point across, you go from being an activist to being a terrorist.

And the lines are crossed, and often. I've seen a lot of innocent people get trampled in protest activities simply because they were gullible enough to believe that the "activists" organizing said activities wanted them peaceful. I know all the tricks of the trade... the little bumps, the catcalls, bottles and rocks thrown from around corners and from behind civilians...

Forget the damn party line. Forget what they say in their little pow-wows and get-togethers. The proof of what an organization is all about is in what they do and how they do it.

Anon is a bully. If it doesn't like something, it takes petty revenge for imagined slights and mis-steps. It punishes not those who are directly responsible, but their customers, friends, co-workers, and the general public, simply to make a point. This is not to defend Anon's targets (Hell, Sony is hardly one of the cleanest corporations on Earth), but just because General Motors decides to dick its customers out of their warranties post-bankruptcy is no reason to go around burning down dealerships.

So won't get into Facebook temporarily or it won't refresh...is that all I can expect?

Par for the course, anyhow.

It's like the people who purposely block their number to say "private number" on caller ID's...guess what, douchebag?...I now care even less about who you are and why you're calling me.

We have that on our phone. I have no idea why my dad has it, but he does. :S

My IP address is 192.168.0.7. So what?

Seriously. When you contact any other host on the internet you have to provide your own IP address, so the remote host knows where to send a response. The whole idea of harvesting and selling IP addresses strikes me as ludicrous.

I think you're confused on the details. Revealing an IP is useless and not dangerous at all. It is true you can use CSRF to gain some form of access to sites which you are currently logged into but this uses cookies.
