Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

Magnus got screwed, gotta love NASCAR officials, they'll throw cautions for spun cars and paper but wooden signs and a door on the racing line aren't worthy of one.

I'd put that on the corner workers and/or the visual coverage they have of the track. I can't imagine they wouldn't have flagged that if they'd seen it---it was dead in the middle of the line and in a spot on the track where there was no way around it---so my best guess is they didn't see it.

It was directly underneath the starter's spot, they probably didn't see it.

Also, what's that elevated spot where the green flag is given from called in English? :guilty:

Not to mention that (ridiculous) crash had just happened there and they knew the 99 was missing a door, I wonder where it could have gone? Exactly. Not to mention a big bright white sign and bright red door seem hard to miss, it might have been night but the place was lit up pretty good, someone should have seen it or at least assumed it was there..

Wait, I was thinking about the Porsche's lost part on the last lap. :dunce:

I really think the flag marshals were asleep.

That makes too much sense for the "officiating" that's done in grand am. Paul Walters has further confused everyone although he has done a good deed in penalizing people (for the most part) when penalties are needed.

I thought the starter was at the start/finish line, while the signboard that took out the radiator was in the middle of the switchback heading into the infield.

I'd just call it start/finish. Depending on the track setup, it might be called the bridge, but that wouldn't be right for Kansas.

Yeah, the Porsche lost something under the flagstand. :dunce: That could also have warranted a caution. It was so close to the end of the race, though...

Only two races remaining, each race on different sides of the nation. The penultimate round will be at Laguna Seca while the finale in late September is at Lime Rock Park. Action guaranteed at both tracks. Both should be more intense than the boring action at the boring new road course around Kansas Speedway.

Darn, my least favourite rounds.

Given that no one can win in GS except the Rum Bum/Stevenson groups, I barely want to watch them race. ST has been the class to watch for quite a while now.

Also, very disappointed that my mom's workplace (Magna International) and their race team (Multimatic) didn't finish well, after essentially dominating the race. It just figures that the best car would be the one that breaks. :grumpy:

I've heard the #50 DP will be racing at Laguna Seca. That makes 16 DP!! Plus, there are more Gt cars entered this round like Mike Hedlund and Van Overbeck in the ESM Ferrari and a second Park Place Porsche. Cessna is the sponsor to the 02 DP for Ganassi. Lots of great stuff for the next race

Whose team is #50?

And, when is the Laguna Seca race? This weekend?

It's the Highway to Help team normally, but it showed up on the testing list with another team name. Laguna is the first weekend in September. Another note: Lotus is making its debut in Gx too

Love the hell out of it. It even has the old star back.

What's with the tinted front windscreen?

Think that's just for the show car. Doubt they would actually use it, otherwise fans and drivers alike would be blinded

Grand Am will be the first racing series to utilize completely digital front viewing portals using cameras instead of traditional windscreens to help develop technology to make cars safer (since you could effectively bury a cockpit deeper into the body of the car to enhance aerodynamics and pedestrian safety regulations). These rules will be effective starting the 2014 Season for the DP, GT and GX classes, though teams are allowed to begin to implement the technology now.

They want to show that their series will be more innovative and technologically advanced than ALMS next season. :sly:

SPOILER!
I don't actually know, maybe the vinyl guys went crazy?

"That Deltawing is pretty cutting edge, apparently.... What could we take from it?"

"Dude! The paint job!"

"YESSSSS. But it can't be a blatant copy. Change the Hue a bit"

It's this..

and this..

You're spot on. I thought the green looked pretty good and the red was cool too, but that's one of if not the best looking livery on a DP to date in my opinion.

The original black and orange one remains one of my favourite liveries on any car, ever.

The other, well, every should know, it's Crazy Leo's!

(No, they're not identical, the lion makes it much more awesome)

cnd, SDR now owns the GX Lotus, does SDR stand for Spirit of Daytona Racing?

I think so, but I'm not too sure. Different people own the cars. Bill Dollahite owns the #11 Lotus under the team name "SDR Motorsports LLC" while Troy Flis owns the #90 corvette DP under the team name "Spirit of Daytona." My source is the competitor information tab on grand-am.com

Also on that tab there is the testing info which says that the #50 DP under the team name of "Olthoff racing" tested at VIR with Byron DeFoor and Jim Pace. They're supposed to be at Laguna this weekend.
