Anybody out there following the Grand Am?

You might also be able to catch the races live on FromSport.com (Sport Lemon). They provide links to GA races, however, the quality isn't as good as most live streaming websites, and the broadcast isn't always in english. Regardless, I used to use this all the time in college when I didn't have a TV, and it worked great.

Yeah, Mac, effing great.

You are definatly this years winner of being the most supportive fan to either series.
So how many races did you attend this year?

.

I went to Watkins Glen for Grand-Am, Limerock and Mosport/CTMP for ALMS and Road America for both.

I know we're discussing TV coverage, but I kind of want to discuss the upcoming race. Kansas Speedway will be raced on tomorrow night. Looking at the track layout, the road course dorsn't look very interesting. Almost like they just took most of the oval and just slap on some rights and lefts infield to make a road course. It is like when the Rolex Sportscar Series raced around Iowa Speedway a few years ago. Not very original or challenging, but... it's cool. I still remember when the series would race around Phoenix International Raceway's road course LONG before the Daytona Prototypes.

You can see the Kansas road course layout if you look at this article: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/08/15/4413423/might-sports-car-racing-at-kansas.html .

Anyhow, this race around Kansas should be interesting.

I don't like the layout, but I'm going to wait until after the race before I pass judgement. I see lots of destroyed cars by dive bombs into turn 1, but I would rather watch a good race on a boring track than a boring race on a good track anyday

Meh, Track layout isn't all that interesting to me. Its like they tried to copy Homestead but turned out bland. I don't expect an interesting race this weekend, but I could be wrong.

The Kansas road course could have been more intriguing. Look at tracks like... I don't know- Daytona, Homestead, California, Phoenix, Pocono, Texas (either Texas World Speedway or Texas Motor Speedway), or any other compelling "roval." It could have been worse, though. The Kansas Speedway road course configuration is just... boring. Despite this, I'm pretty sure this series will have no problem putting on a great show. If it were up to me, I'd probably rather bring the series to Heartland Park Topeka if you're trying to stay in Kansas and have a race in America's Heartland. But still, I think there will be no shortage of action the way these drivers like to mix things up.

I don't like the IMS roval, but the 2 years that grand am has been there it's been a great race. I think Kansas will be along the same lines. No shortage of overtaking spots at Kansas either

The thing I like about the Indy and Daytona courses is they appeared to put thought into what the course should look like. If the Indy course was standalone, I don't think you could tell it was a roval. Same with Daytona, but to a lesser degree.

Maybe not Daytona as much. IMS and monza are very similar just imo. I don't particularly like either, but they do have good racing so I have no problems with them.

The 2.9 mile TWS configuration isn't much of a roval, as they only use the front straight/pit lane of the oval. That's a newer-ish configuration that's only been used for amateur/club racing, though; the original 3.1 mile configuration uses ~1/3 of the back straight plus NASCAR 3 and 4, and I think sports cars have raced that configuration. The other combination road course/oval that I've seen that's similar in design is New Hampshire.

The TMS roval isn't all that different in style from the Kansas roval, it's only marginally more complicated.

In-car video from club racing in Kansas looks fairly interesting, but I've seen it with a big bus stop chicane along the back straight which I'm guessing Grand Am won't use.

While we're on the subject of road courses associated with ovals, I'd love to see the MIS road course get put back together. That's a mostly-off-the-oval course similar to TWS and NHMS. And Talladega has an interesting-looking infield course, but the big oval would be a little boring (and they've ripped up the connection from the oval to the infield course).

Personally, I don't much care for Indy, at least the GT5 version of it. It just doesn't seem to have any flow to it.

Ultimately though, they all appear to be geared for club racing at the most. There are no walls or fencing, and the layouts are not ideal for pit lane entering or exiting.

I've been to Pocono for a NASCAR Cup race and hadn't realized it had an infield layout until I started to watch (TV) those Vipers run the infield.
Remember them?
Definitely club racing with them.

They mention a 2.5 Mile Road course that can be lengthened further. That's not bad.

I see no reason why they can't just pave a connection between the oval, and the yellow layout, take the white layout until it puts them back on the oval, and then run it on the oval from Turn 3 until Turn 1. I mean, why not? The cars do it fine at Daytona's road course... That one's longer.

Seems really weird that "Speed Canada" is showing last weeks Conti race, but not the live Rolex race on Saturday, when we're getting all the other live racing on the weekend.

There's always been a 1-week delay before we get the Conti race.

Also, when are the air times for all of the races in Canada? My cable box doesn't seem to want to tell me that.

The Continental Sports Car Challenge Series race around Kansas is going to be run earlier in the day on August 17 and aired on August 25 on Speed C... I mean, FOX Sports 1.

According to my local listings the Rolex race is aired on the 17th at 4 PM and the Conti race the 25th at 3 PM. Both on Sports 1.
Maybe someone is in control over the different markets.

I'm OK with seeing the Rolex race a day later, not a week later, though it really doesn't matter except for the live timing and the fact I would have to stay away from a lot of media or find out who won and other info as well.

So if we can agree to either use the spoiler text or (probably not preferred) not discuss the race until it has aired for everyone.

💡 Better yet open a new thread for the remainder of races this season.

Looks like the Conti race at Road America is blacked out for Canadians right now.. :(

Speaking of FS2, even those who didn't get Fuel TV (What became FS2), now receive it. However, it's not HD. In fact it barely even appears to be standard definition. I feel for you Canadians though.

Must be tweets for the Continental Tire series I've been seeing then.

I don't have FS2, so I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to watch.

Watching the Grand-Am Race right now on FS2, anyone else?
