Looking back on Grand-Am, I must say that I was pretty pleased seeing such great racing. Here I was watching ESPN or ESPN2 for my first-ever Rolex 24 at Daytona. I saw beautiful cars like the Porsche 911 GT1, the Cadillac Northstar LMP, and of course... my baby- the Ferrari 333SP. I've seen a handful of these cars race on tracks around America, in Canada, and even in Mexico. I thought the field got a whole shakeup once the Daytona Prototypes debuted in 2003. I surely remember a lone Porsche 911 GT3 RSR winning outright at the 2003 Daytona 24 hour race. Say what you want about the Daytona Prototypes. If anything, they helped give Grand-Am some identity opposed to the American Le Mans Series. I still remember that crazy three-car finish at Montreal a couple of years ago.
No matter what, I love sportscar racing regardless. Always have, always will. Grand-Am has provided many great memories for me. The swan song for the old Grand-Am series has long been sung back in late September. Yet still, the Grand American Road Racing Association provided great racing. I think (and hope) the formula will remain strong with the USCR. It sounds like I should be posting this in the USCR thread, but I still want to offer proper and fitting respect for Grand-Am and the racing it provided over the years. Great stuff.
