Anyone miss old Rome Circuit?

It was so nice. Great flow and the first and second-to-last corners are two of my favorite in any track ever. The one we have now is boring, it's just a square... :indiff:

Amen bro, I truly miss the old version of the Rome full course especially when you select the forward direction the first turn and the tight consective 90 degree turn at the northwestern part of the track, great for drifting RX-7, S15 and Skyline GTR R34!

Great times. :D

I still miss it, even to this day. :(

GT3 made me fall in love with that track. But the new Rome is just lacking. Just a boring square like you said. Can't imagine at all why PD thought it was a good idea to change the layout. Just another strange and odd decesion in GT5. :indiff:

I was just thinking this last night. When I saw that Rome was to be in GT5 prior to release , I was thinking of the old one and how great it was going to be to have it back.

I'd pay for it as DLC.

Have to agree on this one. The old Rome Circuit was just better, but the new one has it's moments as well.
The chicane and the whole last sector is pretty nice and challenging to drive.
My main gripe with the new one is those heavily banked turns in the first sector.
There just shouldn't be any banked turns on a street circuit since it's based, well, on actual streets which don't ever have any banking...

But it's just plain weird they didn't include the old circuit as well because both tracks are based on the same IRL location around the Colosseum.
They even share some parts with each other. We could've had Rome West and East, short and full + reverses instead of the two versions we now have.
Another strange move in PDs books...

Maybe it will come later. I hope so.

Imagine a combination/combinations that could come from both tracks. The old one was better. But a lot of older GT features were better. I want more RM-able cars.

There are tracks we'd all like back, along with cars too.

I'd like to see SSR11 and the Jaguar XJR-15 again.

I remember when I found out Rome was going to be in GT5, I got all excited. Then I raced and thought to myself, this isn't Rome, I want the old one back.

The old Rome track was a classic, same with Seattle and apricot hill, we want them back! Are you listening PD??...

I don't hate the new Rome Circuit, in fact I still use this track to test some of my cars, but I would rather race on the old Rome track over the new one any day of the week. Old Rome is a classic circuit from the GT series and it's omission from GT5 was wrong in my opinion.

This.

I still remember, as it was yesterday - Rome 200 laps in Alfa Romeo 155 DTM. Ah the good old times.
New Rome sucks.

Rome Night was a different course, featured only in GT2. It was a lot of fun as well. 👍
Rome Night was also loosely based on roads not very far from the old Rome Circuit.

Purple lines: existing roads approximating the old circuit the closest
Green lines: "ideal" roads (white lines: buildings that would have to be taken down)

I knew it, the old and the new circuit can mingle with each other.

Man, that could be a hell of a circuit, i think the lenght of the full course probably can match with the Nurburgring Nordschleife section or something near that, PD could do that kind of track, and i also think the GT5 layout of Rome is just a way to mix rome night and the old rome circuit (I can dream at least).

PS.: Do you all remember the short version of the rome circuit in GT2?

This was one of the tracks in GT2 that I never really loved , but always liked to race on; it had great flow and an amazing second to last corner. This and Rome Night were memorable in GT2 because of the amazing flow, although Rome Night got a little too technical in some places.

Just for the record: I always loved Mid-Field the most.

Let's just pray that they'll make a comeback in GT6.
PD have to learn that PR is too important to be ignored.

-> Hmm, Rome Circuit '90s was trully an epic old track. Too bad PD was dumb enough to replace it in GT5 as Nuovo Rome.

(full details are on this thread HERE)

:)

The white path here would be 13.3 Km long, according to Google Earth:

I do, but it wasn't much more than a glorified oval track, a bit like the current Rome circuit in GT5.

As for proper ovals, I would add this 1 Km oval for dirt racing in the Rome location (in cyan):

Guessing why? Have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpoKdPNM10M

I do miss the challenge of it, but I don't necessarily "miss" the old Rome track. It would have been cool if the old Rome was combined with GT5's new Rome track somehow, so that we have this really long set of streets to race & drive on. Old Rome and new Rome apparently sit side by side...

Oh god, I HATED Rome Short. That was definitely my least favorite track in GT2. I didn't necessarily hate the track itself, but I did hate the way the Ai drove it...slamming into each other (and you) in Turn 3. I much preferred the full course.

The above proposed circuits are missing some pretty cool architectural/historical areas. I think the Pantheon (white circle, middle, left middle) Piazza Navona (large rectangular piazza to the left of that) and the area to the west of the tiber (more hilly, also containing the vatican) should be included to make it a bit more fun/interesting.

Man, now I want that 13km Rome Circuit, thank you for that!

That's nice, something like a "modern gladiator race". :dopey:

I didn't attempt making the circuit interesting, just making it similar (it's not a perfect match but I'm pretty sure they used those streets. Too many coincidences) to Rome Night in GT2. Perhaps Yamauchi's team at that time liked the general layout/concept but found the scenery unappealing so they ended up making a track only loosely based on the actual streets, with a generic Rome-themed scenery (there could also have been time constraints preventing detailed scenery modeling. Rome Night might have been severely underused in that game as a result, a bit like SSR7 in GT5).

That's nice, something like a "modern gladiator race".
As an oval track, the Circus Maximus would have be more appropriate than the now gone Piazza del Campo track in my opinion!
It's also historically relevant in racing as it's probably the first oval track ever made :)

They should add it as an original track!

Question -> Where in Rome is this highly significant track based from?

Roma Italia (aka. Rome Night) (fate: killed off)

In my opinion on the roads in white path in the image below. However if such track were to be made in real life, some buildings would have to be demolished (I highlighted them in red). Also some streets would be too narrow for proper racing, so the layout would need some changes. My opinion is that for this track PD only took the layout as a general reference and didn't attempt to do an accurate representation of it at all in GT2.

In my previous images in this thread I modified it a bit to make it work better with existing roads.

I don't remember Rome night being anywhere near that long. Perhaps it's just my memory though. I don't think Rome Night was modeled on any real possible route that really exists, rather just interesting looking bits all put together.
