Arab spring uprises Tunisia/Egypt/Libya/Syria

Those meddling kids foiled the plan. Was the state not in working order just a few short years ago?

EDIT: I forgot to add one of my super cool vids, don't delete it this time mods

State of emergency is yet another sad outcome of what happened(was one of the revolution's demand to cancel said law)however it seems that it was a needed call to take control, doubt it will last a month though.

A state of emergency amounts to martial law. Indeed, the military is ruling in all cities and provinces. As for the civilian government, the parliament and judiciary are more or less dissolved, and in the executive ElBaradei has resigned as VP and Mansour is a merely a toothless, freshly installed puppet president.

There is NO plan for fresh elections at any of these levels, so the only rule as far as the eye can see is military - just like the good old days of Mubarek!

El Baradei's resignation was not a surprise,he said the sit-ins should have been resolved peacefully with talks and compromises (which the MB were clearly not interested in) so there was no other way to clear the sit in then using the Police.

Most Egyptians here are furious and are really dissapointed with that resignation as it will resonate badly and send the wrong message.

There is plans for fresh elections,we have a President and a government (shocking I know)El Sisi is hardly the villian here ,I will however agree that his incompetance to protect civillians (From the acts of violence of the brotherhood)is unacceptable.

Also no matter how you put it,the Brotherhood leaders(ones who didn't get arrested yet)are to blame for the violence and for the current state we are in.

As can be seen on various news websites (Al Jazeera for example), the pro-Morsi protesters now believe (if they didn't already) that they are in an existential battle against the military, and thousands of people across the country have come out today to protest in defiance of the army and police, which has already resulted in atleast 19 deaths, but reports suggest that the death toll from today alone may be quite a bit higher. There are also very conflicting reports regarding Wednesday's events, and some UK-based reporters have seen evidence of casualties being turned away from morgues and hence not recorded among the 'official' death toll, which itself stands at over 600. The Muslim Brotherhood claim that the real death toll is nearer 2,600.

One protester said today, "They are attacking us from the front, they are attacking us from behind. We have nowhere to go."... kind of makes you wonder what else they were expecting. While I am not excusing or condoning the heavy-handedness of the army/police on Wednesday, I think this attitude is fairly incomprehensible - while many claim that Wednesday's events were unexpected and that the army/police attacked without warning (which is not entirely true or false), the same surely cannot be said today. The problem for those who are/were peacefully demonstrating is that there were elements within the demonstration who were intent on causing trouble... so much so that some 'protesters' on Wednesday were clearly armed to the teeth. The army and police have made it brutally clear how they intend to deal with future provocations. Unfortunately, thousands of outraged, but peaceful, citizens will exercise their right to protest, and this should be respected. But just as those who fire rockets from civilian districts endanger their fellow citizens by running the risk of a violent response, those elements within the demonstrations who are hell-bent on trouble will guarantee that more innocent/peaceful protesters end up being caught up in the cross fire. With neither side willing to back down, and with elements within the pro-Morsi movement probably quite happy to stir things up, things could get considerably worse before they get any better.

By the way, opinion on Arab news websites seems divided as to whether the 'evil' army dictatorship are atheists, zionists or satanists...

And of course, the Coptic Churches must be attacked, seems like a good time to get rid of those pesky Christians.

Since the army controls most of the profitable industries as well as ruling the nation, they may be thought of as fascists in that they are an unholy combination of business and state.

For four decades this has worked well enough. But the i-phone generation heedlessly prefers a revolution - or two!

Events of today and yesterday just about prove without a doubt the terrorists are the MB.

How could you have been so foolish as to democratically vote them in?? You have really screwed up bad for doing that.

So now, what are you going to do since you have decided they are terrorists? Arrest them all? They are the oldest, largest organized party in Egypt. If you try to deny them rights to participate in the political process, it will be you who are inciting to riot.

A time machine to take you back in time for a do-over would be helpful. Perhaps you could summon a genie for a few magical wishes?

before being elected the MB fooled us into thinking they are a peaceful organisation that will rule by the rules of Islam, plus due to the revolution candidates being alot the votes were spread amongst them allowing Morsi and Shafeeq(a minister in the government oof Mubarak) to be in the final vote decider,so Most of us trusted Morsi as we had no choice we couldn't let Shafeeq win.So no nothing foolish about it.

Yes arrest the violent members and their leaders, the rest are normal Egyptian Citizens who have every right as us.

I am not sure why you're so worked up on this subject though.

I've been studying the whole Arab spring uprising from Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Syria, and trying to understand how it all connects and fits together - it it does. Who benefits, who loses and pays the costs.

It's not so much that I am worked up about it. After all, it is not my country that is rioting and revolting. But the hands and the interests of the US run deep into the Mideast. I need to keep an eye on what my politicians, statesmen and warriors are doing over there.

I think The US backs the MB and would very much like an MB president as someone they can control and make sure they keep peace with Israel etc.

Who benefits from Muslim Countries being week and fighting each other?,certainly not the Middle east.

Yes, the US, and Israel, benefits from weak Arab states with internal factions fighting each other.

I would like to see hard evidence that the US backs the MB. Where's the money?

In any case, you cannot imagine how angry Americans will be if our access to your Suez Canal is somehow endangered or cut off.

Their Official stance for one is indicative of their MB Sympathy.

Why would we cut off your access if you do treat the people's demands fairly and start supporting our new rulers,it's hardly an ideal situation Egypt is in at the moment but the West's stand is not doing any favors.

Don't you know that the state is evil and attracts sociopaths? Crooks and liars, as they say. Never trust a politician. How many times have people been fooled by governments over the years? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me a thousand times, wtf, why do I keep falling for it?

You are right and many of the voters (a very significant number )did intentionally ruin their vote on purpose.

But you can see how we got backed into a corner and to be honest Morsi's election Program was impressive (granted it was a lie  )

plus the fact the MB bribed the poor people to vote for him,it's alot of factors that helped him win,Hopefully the next elections people would choose better.

I still have trouble seeing who is the greater evil between the two...much like are two party system, eh? :sly:

But seriously can some one give me insight that has backing and not CNN Pundits fighting it out for one side or the other.

The MB is the greater evil, by far. Instead, a brutal military dictatorship which provides peace and prosperity, protection for minorities, promotes tourism and maintains the Camp David Accords is GREATLY to be preferred. Some ill-advised Egyptian people simply got infatuated with democracy and it bit them on the ass.

Democracy is ridiculous. If Egypt keeps it up, their democracy is going to result in endless turmoil as half the country will always be upset. What needs to happen is the military must crack down on all violence and provide a forum for an egyptian congress to draft a constitution. The law must be written as described by Bastiat: one that is free of false philanthropy and usurpation of liberty. The military, however, has to be a watchdog just because of the situation and geography. Too many crazy insurgents would love to come and screw everything up. Terrorists hate governments.

I might be able to accept that, but then there is the whole ya know videos of people unarmed getting shot by the military.

I'm afraid we in the west must hold our nose and look the other way when brutal military dictators (whom we are allied with and must support out of our strategic self-interest) must do their dirty work. It comes with the territory of being a global hegemon.

Back in the bad old days people like Stalin could exterminate whole populations of unruly people. Even in Jolly Olde Medieval England, traitorous families were extinguished entirely with their heads put on spikes. Think of the Wars of the Roses between Yorks and Lancasters. It was extremely important for the English to kill infants and children so that there could be no future pretenders to the throne. Edward brutally suppressed Wales from a ring of intimidating castles that makes splendid places to visit today.

If we are disturbed by foreigners killing each other, it may simply be that we have tuned in to the wrong channel on our i-Pads, and need to pay more attention to Justin Bieber and our latest ounce of AK-47, sad to say.

Have you read my signature, pretty sure I'm quite aware of how much we turn away and pretend nothing is as bad as it really is.

I'm aware of history, thanks.

Ah, and now I understand your sarcasm. Sorry though can't say I'm the average American who let's CNN spoon feed them and put their heart on their sleeve when it feels necessary due to such spoon fed headlines.

MB leader Mohamed Badee3 (3 is a letter because you know arab) was arrested today,The mighty fall one by one.

There are reports coming out of Damascus that at least 500 people have been killed after a poisonous gas attack. Both parties are pointing their finger at each other about who did it.

Time for the oh so mighty UN to step in?

Finally the excuus needed by the UN to invade in the Syria and continue the policy of genocide?

People really believe Assad is stupid enough to do a chemical attack a day after UN inspectors have come to Syria to do inspections? The Assad government was winning the fight against terrorism without using chemical weapons! Oh but lets wait till the UN inspectors come over to do a chemical attack because thats how stupid Assad must be...

Wait, let me get this straight, Assad is the good guy? Don't get me wrong there are Al Qaeda guns for hire that are even killing western backed, opposition forces along with Assad's military....but you're telling us Assad is the good guy?

Can you Highlight where I said hw is a "good guy"? Assad is not a "good guy" but I prefer him over the people that are trying to turn the secular Syrian state into a sharia ****hole. Now I will ask you a question:

Do you believe, Assad is stupid enough to have his army do a chemical attack? (One day after allowing UN inspectors into the country) EDIT!

Really the profanity was needed? It's quite offensive to say that he was winning against Terrorist when his people wanted a fair shake and the autocracy that he runs showed its true colors to the world. How exactly are they looking for Sharia Law? So yes I'll question and look at it as if you're saying he is a good guy, especially when you equate him army to what seems to be just terrorist. Also though you worry about Sharia Law, I'm surprised you are worried (or seem to be) about the divide that the Alawites created which is just as bad. So I find it hard to see how one is better than the other.

Well gee he was stupid enough to kill his own people and be on a path to what some may later see as Genocide, and thus the world for the most part dislikes the guy. Chemical weapons use seems evident and given what he's already done doesn't seem that surprising in short use.
