Arab spring uprises Tunisia/Egypt/Libya/Syria

Do you believe, Assad is stupid enough to have his army do a chemical attack? (One day after allowing UN inspectors into the country) EDIT!

Sure, I do.

Syria is a big country. If you drop bombs on one side, and have the inspectors on the other side, they will have a hard time checking it out. And who says that the regime will allow the inspectors in to that part of the country?

This as well, Iran has been able to do it with the nuclear program they are working on so why wouldn't Syria?

Good point you've made Dennisch

Really the profanity was needed? It's quite offensive to say that he was winning against Terrorist when his people wanted a fair shake and the autocracy that he runs showed its true colors to the world. How exactly are they looking for Sharia Law? So yes I'll question and look at it as if you're saying he is a good guy, especially when you equate him army to what seems to be just terrorist. Also though you worry about Sharia Law, I'm surprised you are worried (or seem to be) about the divide that the Alawites created which is just as bad. So I find it hard to see how one is better than the other.

Well gee he was stupid enough to kill his own people and be on a path to what some may later see as Genocide, and thus the world for the most part dislikes the guy. Chemical weapons use seems evident and given what he's already done doesn't seem that surprising in short use.

YOU looking at it as me seeing him as the "good guy" is not the same as me seeing him as a "good guy". Have you ever seen these FSA guys? Does not look much Syrian to me with all these extremists from diffrent parts of the world fighting. Assad is winning because most of the people in Syria see the opposition for what it, a bunch of raping and murdering bandits! Ask the Kurds that fled from Syria to Iraq because these so called peacefull rebels with rocketlaunchers started massacre on kurds who they prefer?

The many arabs fighting in the Arab Syrian Army aren't that concerned about the "devide alawites created".. Your last part is just speculation and there is no evidence that the Assad Government used any chemical weapons against civilians or rebels. The rebels on the other hand have been caught red handed with sarin nerve gave. Good for them that our super free press does not care...

Again, why would Assad use chemical weapons, when he is winning the battle ( retaking area's from the rebels), one day after he invited UN inspectors (who are in Syria now) to look for evidence of chemical weapons. You must really think Assad is an idiot? I can understand not liking him.. But do you really think he is that dumb? You must really naïve or insane if you think he would not do everyting he can to hide any evidence of chemical weapons use after inviting the UN inspectors to come to Syria. No Assad waited for the UN to come to do a massive attack:tup:

Next they bring in "valley girl" to re-do the "babies in incubators" story...

Where did the attack take place and how far are the UN inspectors from that place? I'll give you a hint. TRY LOOKING ON ANY MAJOR NEWS WEBSITE:tup:

And yet, the British government needs to ask for permission to enter the area that has been hit.

Don't use CAPS. Make you look like a kid with a tantrum.

Btw. The attacks are still not confirmed, and the number of deaths reported differ greatly.

That wasn't the point, right? It was about Syria being a big country and not so smart Assad getting away with it because of that? Oh, now the Brits have to ask for permission? Why should Syria even give them permission? They don't even have to see the chemical attack site to blame the Syrian government of chemical weapons use. They just need that one guy in london with bogus evidence to ty the Syrian government to war crimes. Lol, we now have to trust the British government to do a fair investigation 👍 Lets hear the British complain about Syria having no freedom of press 👎. And how are all the Russian criminals that have been granted asylum in the UK doing?

They don't give a damn about the people in Syria! All they care about is sending them back to the stone age so that they can use british corporations to save their economy. Thats what the "democratic west is looking for. An excuse to commit genocide in the name of democracy that will give a temporary boost to the economy.

Btw. The attacks are still not confirmed, and the number of deaths reported differ greatly.

And after the thugs find out they can't use this lie to bomb Syria, all reports of this incident will be ignored and we go back to Kim K's latest outfit till the next bogus report about the Syrian governments latest so called war crimes come up?

It is about giving the UN inspectors the clearance to go and investigate the attacks. Might want to read the articles again.

''The articles" have nothing to do with my response to the British asking for permission. I responded to "the British government" having to ask for permission to investigate the attacks in Syria. I dit not respond to Syria giving/not giving permission to investigate the attacks. Whats wrong with having to ask permission to do an investigation in a sovereign (I do not care about your opinion on Syria and its government) nation? You expect them to just open the gates and let country do a "fair" investigation on the attacks? What reasons do they have to believe the British will do a "fair" investigation?

You're quite dense, you must have a live stream of CNN 24/7, the issue with you is you speak in absolutes and thus come across one way. There are various groups, the groups that Frontline and 60s minutes have traveled with are these actual Syrian citizens fighting for a free Syria. Also the more you talk the more you seem to be siding with a guy that uses bombers on his citizens, tanks, snipers and evidence of chemical weapons. Also what evidence do you have to base that most people see Syrian rebels as terrorist?

. Our? where are you even from kid? There is evidence as intelligence agencies have reported some use, so to say there isn't evidence is naive. Also yet again, not sure if it's wanting to be dense on your part or not, but if you don't allow UN inspectors to investigate kinda shows you are trying to hide something.

If he was outright winning this wouldn't be two plus years ongoing. Also once again he did hide by not allowing them in and blocking them. There are only three sites that were allowed access by Assad's regime they negotiated for months before ever being allowed in, that seems like something to hide

To be quite honest you're the one that is daft in thinking. It's inane to believe that a guy that would attack his own people, deliberately try to hide it by blocking international reporters from corroborating. Yet you still defend him, are you Syrian?

Also the same argument could be extended to the Syrian National Coalition who has also said that the UN can come in and investigate all areas under their control. So I find it troubling that you are saying Assad has nothing to hide and insist the rebels did it, but they are being very cooperative for a group that supposedly used chemical weapons. More so than the limited access after months before allowing the UN to come in.

You must be using sarcasm, eh?

Now back to what you said about Syria being a big country (wich is true). Now that you know what you know (the attack being near Damascus and the UN inspectors being in Damascus), Do you really believe Assad is that stupid?

Well, yeah. Parts of a city can still be a no go area for the inspectors.
If the police/military say no, the inspectors won't get anywhere near the attacked part of the city.

It is really not that hard to understand. The inspectors are 'invited' to the country, the regime show them what they want to show. And it's not that the inspectors will go into the city in their big white cars all on their own. They will probably disappear and both sides will blame each other.

These are the people that do not want a foreign intervention and I support them in that. I do not support rebel jihadi groups from foreign countries, funded by Qatar who slaughter anybody that doesn't support their form of Islam. Foreign rebels have hijacked the fight for a free Syria.
Also the more you talk the more you seem to be siding with a guy that uses bombers on his citizens, tanks, snipers and evidence of chemical weapons.
People like you try hard to make it seem like I support the Assad government. You are more into making me look like someone who supports a dictatorship than being someone who really cares about the future of the Syrian people. The Syrian government is not deliberately bombing and killing its citizens. It's fighting a group of rebels who do deliberately bomb civilians to achieve a political goal (terrorism)
Also what evidence do you have to base that most people see Syrian rebels as terrorist?
You ask the Syrian people that have lost loved ones in the many car bomb blasts that have plagued Syria after foreign rebels invaded the country. Ask the Christian children hanging in the churches of Syria if these rebels are terrorist or not. Is it the Syrian government detonating car bombs near universities?
What is sarin nerve gave? Also if you're going to quote me do it correctly all you have to do is copy my post.

No, it doesn't! There is more evidence of the rebels using chemical weapons than that there is of the Syrian government using them. They even got caught with the chemical weapons...
If he was outright winning this wouldn't be two plus years ongoing.
It's going on for to plus years because notSyrian rebels are coming into Syria funded by foreign interests (money from qatar and weapons being smugled in via Turkey). Thats the only reason these rebel thugs are still fighting and causing this bloodshed.
Also once again he did hide by not allowing them in and blocking them. There are only three sites that were allowed access by Assad's regime they negotiated for months before ever being allowed in, that seems like something to hide
Assad is not stupid as some of you might think. He won't allow history to repeat itself and has any right to not allow them in based on rebel accusations. He has seen what "bringing democracy" has done to other nations. I am not a fan of Assad, but I can respect him not allowing "the free" world turning Syria into a junkyard!

The SNC has nothing to say about what goes on in Syria. The Syrian people did not choose the SNC. I doens't matter what they said.
So I find it troubling that you are saying Assad has nothing to hide and insist the rebels did it, but they are being very cooperative for a group that supposedly used chemical weapons. More so than the limited access after months before allowing the UN to come in.
It's kinda easy to be cooperative when the UN (who only serve western coorperate and geopolitical interests) are eagerly looking for a pretext to invade Syria.
You must be using sarcasm, eh?
What is this "sarcasm" you speak of?

The UN will not hold an investigation. But they do want clarity about the situation. :indiff:

That's how we know the UN. No guts. Divided. Powerless.

Every time the UN arrives in Syria, it is followed by a massacre

When people ask for equal rights in the middle east , that is when massacres happen.

I don't watch CNN...

Good on you.

These are the people that do not want a foreign intervention and I support them in that. I do not support rebel jihadi groups from foreign countries, funded by Qatar who slaughter anybody that doesn't support their form of Islam. Foreign rebels have hijacked the fight for a free Syria.

Neither do I, they aren't the only groups there, there are still Syrian groups that aren't foreign fighters. Yet again your words would suggest otherwise and thus you seem to support Assad winning.

You do the job all on your own, some objectivity would help your cause. I really couldn't care less about you and how I make you look, what does it matter to me? So are you saying that no people have been killed by Assad or been made refugees due to the conflict? I guess no Military planes have killed innocent Syrians? What are you even arguing for, you say Assad is bad yet contradict yourself at every turn.

Yet again the same could be extended to those Assad has killed by unleashing his military on the nation. I'm guess yet again no one innocent has died due to Syrian Military? You keep painting one side of the story that favors Assad, yet you think he is bad...double standards.

It is the chemical weapon the Syrian government is being accused of using.

Sarin Nerve Agent is not sure what Sarin nerve gave is.

Yeah, intellingence agencies have all the evidence

They don't have all, but they have a ton, but since this is all a conspiracy brought on by the west I guess I'm wrong.:indiff:

No, it doesn't! There is more evidence of the rebels using chemical weapons than that there is of the Syrian government using them. They even got caught with the chemical weapons...

Show me? You've now made a claim as fact and so you have to give evidence of this.

It's going on for to plus years because notSyrian rebels are coming into Syria funded by foreign interests (money from qatar and weapons being smugled in via Turkey). Thats the only reason these rebel thugs are still fighting and causing this bloodshed.

Once again not all of them are foreign there are Syrian only groups and a Coalition, they aren't Al Qaeda as you seem to suggest.

Yeah cause killing your own citizens and having most of the world turn on you is a sign of a brilliant leader. Free world making it a junkyard? He's done that himself, not sure how anyone of any capacity respects a dictator as narcissistic as him.

Reuters? Nytimes? I was the one with the 24\7 live stream of CNN?
facepalm.gif

Considering they actually do investigative news that CNN sound bites after it's been published, it's not remotely the same. Also I did say other news outlets which you seemed to forget "Frontline and 60 minutes" Love how you try to use the emoticon I introduced to you against me .

You seem to know me better than I know myself, why don't you just answer what you think (or know) I would answer?

The SNC has nothing to say about what goes on in Syria. The Syrian people did not choose the SNC. I doens't matter what they said.

Yes it does, because they're the ones with the biggest opposition forces to the Syrian Gov't, and have many regions to investigate. They are giving full access while only one named and two unnamed sites have been given access by Assad and who knows what other limits are on that. The question wasn't about who choose the SNC way to try and change direction to save face. Either way it does matter because the UN asked them and they complied.

It's kinda easy to be cooperative when the UN (who only serve western coorperate and geopolitical interests) are eagerly looking for a pretext to invade Syria.

What is this "sarcasm" you speak of?

Sorry sarcasm wasn't the right word rather I should have said warped, myopic, out of touch.

Considering what the west has done in the past, if they wanted to invade Syria it would have happened. There is far more to suggest (U.S. interest in Syria), and show why it is taking this long for the west to help.

Also I called you a kid becasue you act like one, you haven't shown any intellectual ability. You use caps in what seems out of anger, as well as profanity and argue with emotion rather than fact. You state things as fact and yet don't show information to prove your side, and then state our information is biased western backed media that has this perogative to help invade Syria down the road.

No one is going to take you serious with asinine conspiracy theories.

The UN will not hold an investigation. But they do want clarity about the situation. :indiff:

That's how we know the UN. No guts. Divided. Powerless.

There is only so much the UN can do legally. But it is a rather ridiculous situation that UN weapons inspectors can only carry out inspections with the permission of Syria! One is reminded of the scene in 'Life of Brain' when the Romans come back to re-search the PFJ's headquarters, and the watchman says "You haven't given us time to hide!". :ouch:

The UN reminds me of a certain congress. A lot of talk and nothing achieved.

It really doesn't help that Russia and China say no to almost anything related to Syria.

The BBC reported this morning that Syria had invited the UN to investigate three sites where it had been claimed chemical weapons had been used. The Syrian government presumably believes the UN could debunk the claims that chem weapons had been used, or that it was government forces who had used them. The BBC reporter also suggested that these new claims of chem weapons use just hours ago could be an attempt by the rebels to divert the UN from going to the 3 sites the UN have previously agreed to inspect.

There is nobody in this story that has their hands free of bias, or is blameless of attempting to sway opinion to their side.

My personal opinion is that the US has been cooperating with the Assad regime for over 40 years with the close approval of Israel. Assad has protected minorities and various secular rights, including western dress, alcohol and cosmetics for women.

I further believe it is a mistake to throw away a stable situation into the hands of violent extremist Sunni Muslims, essentially al Qaeda, who would wipe out the minorities, impose sharia law, and use Syria as a base to attack Israel and western interests, not to mention totally destroying tourism.

Edit:
The UN had an emergency meeting to decide how to respond to the latest allegations of chem weapons use in Syria. Guess what? The US ambassador to the UN did not even bother to attend!! That shows how low on the priority list Syria is to the US. If the high minded British and French who are raising such a furor over Muslims killing Muslims in the Mideast really are serious, they will man up and spend whatever is necessary to invade and spread truth and justice - just like in the good old days of the Crusades.

The US is getting ready to bomb Syria.

Naval ships have been preparing and waiting for the ok from the White House.

I rather have them wait and let the inspectors do their work, since Russia now also asked for the inspection. But on the other hand, poop has been going down for too long now in Syria. It is time to do something serious.

Yes, John Wayne taught my generation of Americans that fists and guns are a reasonable solution to conflict. So, when America becomes frustrated and egged on by supercilious Europeans, our first instincts are to bomb and kill people. It may not solve anything. It may make things worse. But we will certainly feel better. I hope you do, too.

Well, it always looks awesome when a superpower shows it's power. But what happens on the receiving end is a bit saddening. Even if it is a silly dictator like Assad.

President Assad
The statements by the American administration, the West and other countries were made with disdain and blatant disrespect of their own public opinion; there isn’t a body in the world, let alone a superpower, that makes an accusation and then goes about collecting evidence to prove its point. The American administration made the accusation on Wednesday and two days later announced that they would start to collect the evidence - what evidence is it going to gather from afar?!

They claim that the area in question is under the control of the rebels and that the Syrian Army used chemical weapons. In fact, the area is in contiguity with the Syrian Army positions, so how is it possible that any country would use chemical weapons, or any weapons of mass destruction, in an area where its own forces are located; this is preposterous! These accusations are completely politicised and come on the back of the advances made by the Syrian Army against the terrorists.

As for the UN Commission, we were the first to request a UN investigation when terrorists launched rockets that carried toxic gas in the outskirts of Aleppo. Several months before the attack, American and Western statements were already preparing public opinion of the potential use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government. This raised our suspicion that they were aware of the terrorists’ intentions to use these weapons in order to blame the Syrian government. After liaising with Russia, we decided to request a commission to investigate the incident. Whereas we requested an investigation based on the facts on the ground, not on rumours or allegations; the US, France and the UK have tried to exploit the incident to investigate allegations rather than happenings.

During the last few weeks, we have worked with the Commission and set the guidelines for cooperation. First of these, is that our national sovereignty is a red line and as such the Commission will directly liaise with us during the process. Second, the issue is not only how the investigation will be conducted but also how the results will be interpreted. We are all aware that instead of being interpreted in an objective manner, these results could easily be interpreted according to the requirements and agendas of certain major countries. Certainly, we expect Russia to block any interpretation that aims to serve American and western policies. What is most important is that we differentiate between western accusations that are based on allegations and hearsay and our request for an investigation based on concrete evidence and facts.

Flashback
Syrian rebels used Sarin nerve gas, not Assad’s regime: U.N. official

Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior U.N. diplomat said Monday.

Carla del Ponte, a member of the U.N. Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, told Swiss TV there were “strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof,” that rebels seeking to oust Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad had used the nerve agent.

But she said her panel had not yet seen any evidence of Syrian government forces using chemical weapons, according to the BBC, but she added that more investigation was needed.

Damascus has recently facing growing Western accusations that its forces used such weapons, which President Obama has described as crossing a red line. But Ms. del Ponte’s remarks may serve to shift the focus of international concern.

Ms. del Ponte, who in 1999 was appointed to head the U.N. was crimes tribunals for Yugoslavia and Rwanda, has sometimes been a controversial figure. She was removed from her Rwanda post by the U.N. Security Council in 2003, but she continued as the chief prosecutor for the Yugoslav tribunal until 2008.

Ms. del Ponte, a former Swiss prosecutor and attorney general, told Swiss TV: “Our investigators have been in neighboring countries interviewing victims, doctors and field hospitals. According to their report of last week, which I have seen, there are strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof of the use of sarin gas, from the way the victims were treated.”

She gave no further details, the BBC said.

The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria was established in August 2011 to examine alleged violations of human rights in the Syrian conflict which started in March that year.

It is due to issue its next report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva in June.

Rebel Free Syrian Army spokesman Louay Almokdad denied that rebels had use chemical weapons.

“In any case, we don’t have the mechanism to launch these kinds of weapons, which would need missiles that can carry chemical warheads, and we in the FSA do not possess these kind of capabilities,” Mr. Almokdad told CNN.

“More importantly, we do not aspire to have (chemical weapons) because we view our battle with the regime as a battle for the establishment of a free democratic state. … We want to build a free democratic state that recognizes and abides by all international accords and agreements — and chemical and biological warfare is something forbidden legally and internationally.”

First off. What's Obama's problem with killing people with gas. He had no problem dropping phospherous on Fallujah. Secondly doesn't matter who dropped the gas in Syria, the "NWO" will find evidence that the government did it and declare war. WMD anyone?

Nor really into labeling it as "NWO" but the rest is spot on. Like killing people with gas is that much worse than killing people with guns? I also get why Assad will rather not have UN inspectors in. If anything happens to the inspectors they will blame it on Assad.

Wait, so the US is going to support rebels who are shown now to be extremist? Boy this will end well.

I still haven't seen a compelling reason why the US should get involved in the first place.
