Ask GTP About Your Car Problems/General Questions

Ok having a turbo problem i have a 1994 rx7 single turbo. It's around 700hp its running on c85.Im starting to see lots of white smoke from the turbo based on what i know it can be a leak.My question is how can i repair that without buying a new turbo??

I think it's only fair that Mazdaman knows his claim about owning a 700hp Mazda RX-7 is being put in the Ludicrous Claims Thread until proven otherwise. And please tell us what a C85 is?

So I'm contemplating on getting a Ford 5.0 swapped Mazda RX-7. The owner is telling me that the clutch is slipping bad and will need a replacement. How much do you guys reckon that will cost to do?

The stockers I don't even know, but I've heard of Spec clutches going for under $500. I'd imagine stock with labor would be under $500

I was going to let him know through PM, but this way will work out just fine. :)

Wait so... You can't find a replacement CT12A turbo at all cheaply?

Details. More. Needed.

Trying to find a CT12A cheaply, but I think it's going to be a hard slog. As to more details, wasn't much to say. Car has been whining but I thought it was the belts (alternator or loose fan belt). Last night, the car didn't want to even turn and then after I did get it started all it belched was white smoke. Compression is through the floor too as a consequence, very very hard to start.
I'm going to talk to the Toyota guys because for some strange reason they may be cheaper here (as I'm 1500km closer to Japan :P). My father-in-law gets parts for other models cheaper at the OEM's than he does at the aftermarket places that supply the same crap.

Well my friend is a mechanic working in a local shop so I wonder if he can get me a good deal on a clutch replacement.

I'd say go halvsies. If he's open to that I'd take it - but then maybe it isn't such a good idea for you to be pedling a 5.0L RX7 if you can't afford a $500 clutch replacement. Maybe repairs over there are way cheaper than here in Australia, but even my 12yr old Volvo costs more than that when components get replaced - and I can only imagine what future costs will be needed on a V8 RX7 (but gosh - that has a nice ring to it doesn't it? :P). No offense or anything, but $500 converted to AUD seems pretty good for a clutch replacement.

👍

Well, that call did a fat load of good. :grumpy: This is how it went:

"I need a CT12A for my 1JZ"
"Well, we need the engine #, the VIN #, etc."
"Umm, this was a conversion, JZA70 motor into an X83 Cressida so I'll have no hope of the chassis #"
"Well, I can't really help you because some CT12A's have #'s after them, and other CT12A's have letters after them for the serial number"

🤬🤬🤬

Looks like I'm tearing off the heat shield to get to the exhaust tomorrow after work. :yuck: I HATE WORKING ON EXHAUSTS!!

Well I just can't afford it at the moment because of some recent purchases haha. I mean I'll just have to wait for the next paycheck if I get it.

Since he says he running on it, I can only assume it's the C85 that is a bio-fuel of 85% ethanol & 15% gasoline. However, he has to be referring to something else because C85 is extremely rare to find available to the public in the US as the creator, Coskata hasn't fully perfected it yet.

That would be E85, and it is very easy to find, at least in this part of the country.
C85, not E85. Coskata developed C85 because of the criticisms of corn & palm oil-based fuels & call it non-food biofuel in hopes to gain more notice. But again, he has to be referring to something else because C85 is still experimental.

Yea sorry about that i meant e85 but that still isnt helping me i want to know if i can fix this without buying another turbo.Well 650 to the wheels but the damn car is freakin blown but im gonna endup doing another rebuild like i have a choice but also im gonna upload pictures through my build hey maybe ill sell the motor to find a 13brew don't know yet but we will see i actually know a guy that has the same set up as me.Now i have a question to any rotor specialist ive seen lots of tuners build race motors and now ove seen them use the same motor as me. Now when i was at the track i spotted out something they dont port the rotor housings but they do a semi peripheral port but now the orts on the housing are smaller than mines. My question is when building a race motor should you do that or can i port the housing bigger than them and still do the semi peripheral?

Just post a picture of your car and the engine, you can save the dyno sheets later...I want to see what a 650hp looks like. If you take pictures of everything that should be a fairly reasonable request.

Well i have a picture of it being built.

Considering we all know you have a camera... Could you do us all a favor and take a picture of the car with a little piece of paper that says HI GTP etc etc?

EDIT:

Something like that is what I'm talking about. Just use a piece of tape and put it next to a rear taillight or something. Oh and provide a picture of it as is now.

mazdaman, you rang the report button, and I took a look. Seems you're mouth has you in a pickle now.

Either post the picture and prove us all wrong, or admit you were "Exaggerating" your 650hp claim.

Now, you've been told to do so my an administrator. And I hate to have to step in as a staff member, mainly because every member carries the same weight when debating ludicrous claims, but you stated quite clearly
Ok do you see what they want me to prove im not no kid i only follow orders by staff.I will not tolerate this or be tooking as a joke!!
So here is the order. Post a pic as you've been politely asked to do so, or figure out what you can do to withdraw the exaggerated claim.

I hope you're talking about mazdaman there Tom! :sly:

If not, then.......POPCORN PLEASE!! I need a front row seat for this. :D

*sits back and waits for DA to return serve if it's directed at him*

Wow, that's pretty whiny
No need to insult him, he just believes he's being excessively persecuted because of his decision to post his excessively modified car. Had you stated instead,
Wow, that would appear to be pretty whiny.
I think you'd be, quite possibly, very accurate in your description.

[edit]Seen the edit :D yes, I knew who it was directed at. ;) [/edit]

don't get your hopes up... it's directed at mazdaman

I figured so. *puts popcorn away*

As for the reporting bit, I 'd at it. Yeah sure if someone was insulting you left right and centre then it would be appropropriate to hit report. But this?? :odd: All we did was ask for some pics!! :boggled: That's not too much is it??:confused:

I had a problem with my fathers car with the turbo (VW 1.9 TDI) ... supposedly, the turbo broke, but the rest of the engine was working (just lie down some white smoke exhaust) took it to the mechanic and he replaces it. After having done the mechanic was giving the car a few laps to test and engine broke (piston) and the car went ion the trailer for the workshop again...

said that i assumes no liability beyond cost related only with the new turbo and change costs .. but the mechanic says that has no responsibility on what happens ... and I(my father) have to pay for the rectification of all motor ..

someone who understands the mechanics and can say that the work the mechanic did on influences from the turbo engine?

Well your first problem is that it's a VW.

Where did you take it? I'd personally take the thing to a VW dealer whenever possible. Maybe some VW specialist? Hopefully not some random backyard mechanic. They might not be the best authorities on a German turbo engine.

Something you might be able to do (just a thought) would be to take it to somebody who really knows VWs and have them give you their guess as to why the piston broke. If it's obviously something that your mechanic screwed up, then there must be something you can do to have the mechanic take responsibility of it.

I dunno about you guys but If I was rocking a 700hp FD I'd be whoring that thing out everywhere with pics and proof.
