personally I've found pCARS, at least once you have the FFB reasonable on the PC version, very rarely has moments where you wonder what happened after you lost control. By default pCARS has far too much SAT overpowering everything else in my experience (Thrustmaster wheel presets at least), so improving the FFB is crucial to getting more information.

For me, rFactor and iRacing are king of the "WTF" moment, although Forza 4 had some tendencies too. AC is really good at always letting you understand what is happening, as is RaceRoom (just like older Simbin titles).

I guess part of this is the choice to either just simulate steering rack forces in the wheel, or to add some "seat of the pants" car feel into the wheel FFB, but the end result is that some simulators you need to "learn" the visual/sound cues as much as feel the FFB, whereas other simulators you get what you need from the FFB predominantly.

That was probably part of my problem. After a couple dozen hours of fiddling with PCars FFB I never got any settings that felt even remotely satisfying or correct. Eventually I couldn't be arsed to mess with it anymore. And yeah, too many WTF spins in iRacing is what made me ultimately give up on it too. For me the driving feeling is paramount, everything else is secondary.

I think this was released too close to F1 2016...its the reason i wont be picking it up for a couple of months or so,and i guess thats the case for a lot of people.

It was about 4am before I could get to download the game to my PS4 so I only had time for a brief enough run. I use a controller so after the disaster that was trying out PCars for the first time I was a bit worried about how the game would handle and my trepidation wasn't helped by the fact that the only car available from the get go was the Ferrari FXXK!

Anyway, I settled on controller preset 2 and took the gamble of disabling stability and traction control. After taking to the track I have to say I was delighted with how it felt. Even on the unfamiliar and tight track Magione I found the car handled predictably and I'm looking forward to exploring this game far more than I was with PCars after my first session.

@Titzon Toast - From my 1 year of experience with Assetto Corsa & Kunos, if they say they're going to do something, they do it. They are extremely tight with their player base in their official forum - meaning they will communicate often and answer just about every question asked. Of course, the bigger the player base gets, the more people who are going to get questions unanswered, but it will be a much friendlier environment than most, so I've been told.

I do have a question. Why is my car no matter what I drive always slower in a straight line than the AI?
What am I doing wrong in the car setup to keep my speed down? And what is the top speed of the Ferrari 488GT3 car?

I cant figure out why every car is slower than the AI in a straight line.
I haven't used the Drag Strip in probably 7+ months, but I don't think I ever beat the AI in a drag race. I would always think the same thing too -- how is he pulling away from me like that? Of course, being an AI driver his reaction time is probably going to be extremely good, but I never thought mine was slow or anything.

wow, some poor reviews being published - 5/10's ....surprised by that! Ive got to say looking at the graphics, they look poor - espeically the trees, trackside objects etc. Its more PS3 quality.

I keep thinking why get this when i could just have a blast on Pcars, with its superior lighting and dynamic weather/time of day...
If superior lighting and dynamic weather/time is more important to you than more accurate physics & force feedback, a better tire model & smarter AI drivers then you absolutely should stick with PCars. If those things were more important to me, I know I would.

Assetto Corsa is capable of better graphics than the console version is producing. Some videos from PC users are gorgeous. Consoles only have so much processing power & memory available to programmers and since Kunos's #1 focus is providing the best, most physically accurate driving experience that they know how to give you, on millimeter accurate laser scanned tracks, they had to compromise on the graphics. Its as simple as that - and unfortunate. Don't be surprised, however, if the graphics improve over time. All the beta testing in the world is nothing compared to the bug reports & system performance reports obtained by a worldwide user base. If Kunos figures out how they can optimize this, or optimize that they'll improve the visual experience. That's happened with the PC version.

Just received my copy of the Prestige Edition from Game but haven't tried it out yet. Will definitely buy the Season Pass although wondering when the Japanese pack and Red Pack will be available. Guessing sometime in September. Are you able to race cars from different classes? For example, could I choose the GT-R Nismo and select the M4 Coupe as my AI rival?
I know with the PC version, you can do whatever you want. I could setup a grid of Abarth 595s and Formula One open-wheel rockets! :D Hopefully they have give console users the same freedom. While I wouldn't want to run races like that, except for a laugh, I do like to run simulated "Track Days". I'll put cars from the lowly Abarth 500 to the mighty Lamborghini Aventador SV with 20 cars in-between on the track. THAT is a ton of fun!

Getting interested.

Going to wait for tearing fix and private room to be in to jump on the ship.
I don't know why you feel the need to wait. Both of those issues WILL be addressed. And I don't mean in a "We'll get to it, but we really won't" Polyphony kind of way. If they say they are doing something, they do it. Why would you want to all of a sudden be the Assetto Corsa newbie racing against people with AC experience? Now, I could see if it had crappy physics, waiting for something like that to be fixed first makes a lot of sense. Obviously, do whatever you wish - it's your cash. I just think you're going to be denying yourself a lot of pleasure for no reason.

Your very first experience with Assetto Corsa was with the Ferrari FXX-K with Traction Control turned off?!?! You da man!!! :D Since you're not in here screaming about how the game kept stupidly spinning you out again and again, you obviously know how to drive. Just a suggestion, but don't ever use Stability Control. You clearly don't need it. SC is a fake drivers aid. It's even worse than Skid Recovery Force is in GT6, in my opinion. You're going to be just fine my friend! 👍

Only the old-schoolers or the Lotus thingy. FOM and the Fezza won't allow the two new F1 cars to race against anything except themselves (just like in GT5).

That's the case for me too.

Did the adjustment make the steering animation better?

I have adjusted the speed and sensitivity of the steering to 0% and the steering deadzone to 0% as well. For me, it's as good as it will get. Yes, at times the steering motion of the driver's hands looks a bit stiff but it's not a big deal for me.

Shame that so many people take F1 over this. I'm a car fanatic but F1 is pants to me. It's all about the car, not the driver and they all look pretty much identical save for different liveries. Look what happened to Schumacher once he left Ferrari. He was struggling to make the top 10 at times.

That's a common human fallacy known as confirmation bias, we look for reasons to support our choice and ridicule other choices to make our choice seem correct. Look at politics, religion, sports, video games, people blindly support and champion their chosen affiliation while degrading those who made a different choice in an effort to make their choice feel more valid. We can overcome it, but only after we realize we're susceptible to it.

What i do find funny though is that I get it with something like politics, but its only £200 odd for a PS4 so its not unattainable for most. Its not rare, its just a choice.

edit! postmans here!! prestige game in hand and in xbox....watch this space...

I can live with a rough animation as long as the hand movement isn't so exceptionally fast as we've seen in some pre-release videos. Maybe I should have been more specific in my previous question. Does the settings for steering speed and sensitivity affect the speed of the steering animation? A simple yes or no will do, thanks. :)

True. Although, on PC you can make a simple edit to the ui_car.json file of each car and then they'll be able to race against everything. The line to delete is:

"onlywith": ["ks_ferrari_sf15t","ks_ferrari_f138"],

A few bits from my first few hours with AC.

Are these your first experiences ever with AC or had you played it on the PC before? I know you'll provide a fair and balanced review for us, so just curious if this is your first exposure.

Fully agree, but it's so ingrained in some people that they behave the same way over something as trivial as a gaming system or a political belief. They must defend their choice no matter the extreme/bizarre lengths required. Just look at this nonsesne, some religious children's home won't accept over $28,000 in donations just because the person donating doesn't believe in their chosen sky-friend. Really?

Yes it does. Makes a huge difference imo :-)

I've played it once on the PC before around a year ago for 20 minutes.

So to be honest I may as well be new to it.
Nice driving! How do you like the feel of it? Are you able to move those apps around the screen on the console version? Like, could you move the track map in the left lower corner to the upper left corner, if you wished? Could you move that circular style of Tachometer/Speedometer to a different position on the screen? Also, are there more apps that you could display on the screen, like the pedals app on the PC version that shows little moving bar graphs that represent the amount of brake you're applying, how much throttle you're applying?

Many thanks.

So far it feels excellent, the RS1600 in particular.

Nope to all of those, which coming from PCars is massively disappointing. I run pCars with the HUD totally off and pCars dash and Crew Chief apps running on my Nexus 6, I can only hope that AC supports the same in a future update.

Well the sounds certainly seem to be winning, still waiting for the postman!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me too, I doubt I'll get mine until Monday. Twice this week I went into web chat with Game support and twice they told me not to worry, my copy will arrive today.
##$$$#### you Game!

Chase cam is disaster way too dynamic especially when turning it moves to the side of a car and you have no feeling of fast cornering and stuff...
I hope they can fix that...
Chase cam is pants, fullstop. Try cockpit view, takes a while but far more realistic.

Must admit, Game were very helpful. Chatted with a couple of their customer service advisers and both were really good. Received my prestige edition today. Yet an order I placed with Amazon and which was also dispatched yesterday has not arrived. Go figure....

On another note, AC is definitely more unforgiving than Forza, GT or even Pcars when you race with everything pretty much off. I am enjoying it immensely though

The F40 is most certainly tail happy and needs to be treated with great respect.
