Scaff's review was very good as were several others, but again, my purpose was only to explain why, IMO, I though each of the reviewers in question provided the scores they did, not to say one is better or more appropriate than the other.

But the implication seemed to be "one gets it" (the positive review) the other doesn't, i personally want a review to cover everything present, i can make my own personal decision how important each area is to me.
I never wanted AC for the career, i just knew i had to have it regardless, i never really expected it to offer a better racing experience than PCars and it doesn't, so i'm happy.
It's simple AC for physics, FFB, car feel is 9/10, I 'get it' I have a wheel, i have a room in my house solely for the pursuit of gaming with a 'rig' etc, I have had track day cars semi race prepped Alfa 155 and Alfa 75 V6, i 'get it'.
But i'd still want people to know everything the game says it offers and review based on that so overall it the moment it's a 7/10 OVERALL IMO.
The notion someone can't 'get it' just because they review it based on its purpose as a game is absurd. It is like it or not, a game.

Wow, you really struck the car hard on 1st video, almost like trying to send someone off the cliff in GTA V :P and the second video, looks much better on PC. Do the AI have you know, aggression, steer back when rubbing or hit back at the players ? I was worried the cars would be like some games where the AI cars are like floating driving fortress that bounces players car like it was made from plastic
Depends on the weight difference between your and their car at least in my experience with this ai. Hope it comes to you soon because it sucks watching videos of stuff a lot of people complained about a while ago.

But we don't have the console menu system, we're second class citizens :sly: Ok, I don't have the console version so I don't know everything that's different but from what I understood the basic game seemed similar. The consoles always seemed to have more limited controller functionality.
I would swap the PC menu for all the stuff they ripped out in a heartbeat, we can't even adjust the seat position.

That wasn't the implication at all. What was stated was that one reviewer looked at it based on one set of objectives and one based it on another set of objectives and evaluated it according to those objectives. All reviews are biased based on the preferences and experience of the reviewer. Both of these reviewers were pretty clear on what they based their review on and it's not hard to read between the lines and gleen out the information that each of us find relevant to our own personal wants and desires in this or any other game. I pay zero attention to review scores because I find them meaningless. I pay lots of attention to the details and what I perceive the competence of the reviewer to be to evaluate those details.

So why say that one reviewer 'gets it' but the other doesn't? I'd say personally if a reviewer is just reviewing one aspect of a game, it is a game yes? Then they aren't really doing a good job at all.
Anyway the general stench is one of "If you don't like one aspect of AC you must not get sim racing", i think its fair to say pretty much everyone is saying the driving is sublime, but Kunos need to really take a long hard look at how things have moved on game wise since 1998.... and i think judging by their blog they have and will.

I don't know, why did you say that?

It is a game, yes. As I stated earlier, each reviewer will look at the game based on his personal likes and dislikes, things he thinks are important etc. That's why no two reviews are alike and scores are usually all over the map.

I don't see anyone saying the part you quoted at all but I haven't read all the reviews. I've seen reviewers that said the driving experience is wonderful and second to none and they don't care much about the shortcomings but that's hardly the same thing is it? There are many shortcomings in the console release and Kunos has promised to continue to update and respond to as much fan feedback as is reasonably possible...key words being the last two. I'm confident they'll make substantial progress but it'll take some time but I'm not sure most of the early buyers will stick around long enough for it to matter.

Do Quick Races and Race Weekends against Alien AI in road cars. It is totally epic racing of the kind I wished GT would have..

Also despite track surface choice not being in the game, and that is a massive loss, it may have been implemented in Race Weekend mode if the improvements in my laptimes in each session have anything to say on the matter.

I tried the Lambo Countach S2, can someone tell me what is wrong with the brakes? It seems like nothing happens and I have zéro feel in the brake pedal with this car :odd:

I tried with all aids of and my wheel and pedals are stock T150.

Not sure I quite understand what your issue is, and I'm not sure if this is indeed the same issue that is on PC, but: Each time I load up AC I have to go into the controller settings and floor one of the pedals so that all 3 calibrate properly. Otherwise the brake in all the cars will be hyper-sensitive and nearly impossible to use.

It's not the problem I have. I can change between cars and the brakes on the others seem to give more feedback. The Lambo gives just nothing back. Brakes feel dead and I have no clue how hard or deep to push. Other cars don't have this issue.

The Alfa GTA is one of the hidden gems of AC. A beautiful sound, nimble handling and enough power to make it interesting. Combined with the much more forgiving vintage tire model and you can drive this car for hours and hours at any track and get completely lost in the experience. I find all the vintage cars on vintage tires to be the most fun to drive. Be sure and drive the AC Cobra, Ferrari 312T, the Lotus 25, 49 and 72D, the Lamborghini Countach, Escort Mk 1 and really, every other vintage car in the game. For me it's worth the purchase price for these cars alone they are that much fun to drive.

Agreed I prefer the vintage & road cars myself. I have only tried the GTA and the Cobra, but AC's are the best that I have driven in any game to date.

I'll just throw my 2 cents in:
All day I was waiting to come home to just drive. Driving each car feels sooooo great that I don't even care too much about racing the AI, or doing the career, but just driving. Sometimes I try to do a little drifting, maybe take this corner really fast, I just love the driving experience. Yes, the career is bad. Clearly needed someone to test certain stages to let them know that it is near impossible. Overall, I'm glad I spent $50.

Question, the trophy list says complete every special event. How do I complete special events? I finished the first event but nothing happened and there was no indication anywhere that the event was actualy completed. Any thoughts?

You know that whole never meet your heros thing. That counts for the countach, its horrible and that reflects in the its characteristics.

That better cost £7 or they will get more flak. Prestige cost me £37 from GAME.

I think a lot of developers would be surprised at what gamer's actually want in a driving title. Its pretty clear to me from my limited research, which simply involves going on gaming forums, that 'they' want custom championships, warm up laps, private lobbies and pretty robust online play with decent ability to create rules.
Most guys my age just want ToCA 2 but next gen! (PCars is close).
Very few i'd wager want to pretend they are a racing driver jetting from one 'special event' to the next in different cars each time but never getting enough of time to truly learn that car over anything more than few laps till they are thrust into another event, all the while being told by an overly keen American that your either 'gnarly dude' or 'bad luck duuude"
It's like they are constantly rehashing ToCA 3 race driver, how about starting in car of your choice over a 15 race season where you can build up your skills in that car.
PCars in fact came so close to a well fleshed out career mode.
I'd be happy with 10 cars, custom championships. Its not me asking for the rest of it, its what the bean counters think they need to sell games...i think they are wrong.
Spot on : TOCA 2! So much goodness.

Sorry for the late reply, not long finished work and I see this thread has been moving on several pages. These were the videos here and here.
My CPU was never exactly low-end, I had an i7 920 at the time, but it was very old in terms of computer years (from 2008). In that 52 car race the CPU was obviously working flat out :sly:, but I was still able to average around 40fps with some settings reduced.
Thanks for coming in with those links @Lewis_Hamilton_! I thought I had 'em bookmarked but I did not. Also, I wasn't trying to imply that your system was junk or anything like that. For some reason I thought it was an older i5 CPU -- obviously, I had you confused with someone else. Watching that video again makes me want to fire up LeMans and go do a little racing too.

I'll just throw my 2 cents in:

I haven't even looked at the Special Events section in many months, but don't they consist of individual events, like maybe one will say "Complete a Hot Lap around Silverstone National in X:XX.XXX" or "Win this race at Spa in the GT3 car of your choice - AI is driving all GT3's too!"? It's something like that, right? Well, you've gotta accomplish the goal, not just participate in them. That's the impression I got from your post -- am I misunderstanding you? If so, I'm sorry...that's my fault.

VBR
Decided that I'm definitely not going to buy this game at the moment. Maybe I will at some point in the future when it's dirt cheap & worth taking a punt on after lots of updates.
I'm skipping it too, and won't be buying it at all. I still will visit this forum just to read how things are going because I want it to improve and succeed so that more sim titles will make their way to console.

Me too. Still in awe over what they have achieved with such a small team, & have the utmost respect for those guys over at Kunos.

:)

Yeah so the special events. The only way you can see what the goal is (I believe the only way) is to click on session once you are in the race or event. Turns out on the first event I just really suck. The bronze goal was a 1:26 and I had been doing 1:27s. Took me about 10 laps to get a 125.3
