As Brandon said, some devs that do announce a patch date generally get it approved before they launch the patch for the public, others just put it out the second they can such as Kunos.
I'd rather not have SUV's in something calling itself "Your racing simulator", but it is free so can't really complain too much. Certainly this game is desperate to be Forza or GT (well desperate for a share of their market) it's certainly not trying to be PCars that's for sure. I just wish personally Race Room had come to console instead. I prefer the race focus, but it is what it is, it's all personal opinion of what people like and you can't argue with the masses i mean SUV's clearly never did Forza any harm did they?
Well as Maserati went to Kunos i figure that Kunos had no choice, maybe they had to argue as to whether it would be free content though. You have to eat your vegetables as well. As for Raceroom it would have been slammed into oblivion simply because of the payment scheme, its fine once you already have content but very overwhelming for people that have nothing yet. Something as simple as buy everything for £40 or £50 would have reduced the stigma by a large amount, a lot of sim racers arent really fussed but some random will get put off also it would have to be digital only and digital sales arent nearly as good on console in comparison to retail if i remember correctly. Its a great game, vastly superior to AC in several ways but the payment system is so horrid that you forget about that completely.

That's my understanding of it, Mazza said "You can have our GT4 car and our two vintage F1 cars but we'd like you to please include our new SUV as part of the deal because that's the one we're trying to sell now and we'd like to be able to let people drive it at demos we setup. We will let you include it for free if you agree to these terms." So the choice was to have three awesome Mazza cars and a free Mazza SUV or to have no Mazzas at all. I think they chose wisely. This is also the same scenario with Porsche and why their SUV and Panamera will be free.

I spent lunch hour bombing around Spa in the SLS AMG in a couple of race weekends. That car and track combo is a dream. The physics are a dream. It's the first time I've felt like I'm actually driving a real car. PCars is crap in comparison (sorry PCars guys!).

Anyone in my company who sees it though basically thinks it looks a bit geeky and dry and boring-looking.

If we could have these physics, with a more interesting game, (and better visuals) it would be incredible.

edit: also, leaderboards for lap times would be so useful...

Don't like a car, then don't drive it. It's impossible to create a list where all cars are liked by everyone anyway. If one car you hate gets you several cars you love, then that's a pretty good deal IMO. :)

And that's probably exactly why it was included for free. They knew it probably wouldn't be too popular at first and people would be unhappy if they had to pay for it. Surprisingly, it's turned out to be rather popular. Win, win!

I can concur on the Maserati Levante. I tried it basically because it was there and really, really like the way it handled. You can definitely feel the weight but it has a lot of grip for a vehicle that heavy and the turn in and oversteer is nice too.

And you probably wouldn't have been able to do your epic Nords lap if we didn't get the Levante! :D

It will be popular! Look at Forza, like i said. SUV's in driving games are popular. I'll nail my colours firmly to the mast, I don't like SUV's, I'm a Land Rover fan and also used to own a JEEP Cherokee 4ltr beast with a 3 inch lift kit and massive dirt tires. Any SUV just seems like a car made for people to take their kids to school in.
I'll take any car especially if its free though.

I do find it funny how many times I've read snotty PC sim types spout on about why Forza is a kids arcade game and using SUV's as a reference, but now ones in AC its suddenly the most amazing thing in the world of sim racing...such is life.

It's an unfortunate human trait that all of us will suffer from at some point, especially if we aren't aware of it, and some people suffer worse than others (some people seem to thrive on it). It's a form of confirmation bias. We feel a need to justify our decisions, one way to do this is by degrading decisions that are different from our own in order to make us feel better about our decision. It's the same reason you see rF2, iRacing, and AC users constantly bicker about which one is the "better" sim, it's why Republicans hate Democrats and Democrats hate Republicans, it's why sports fans celebrate their team and ridicule people who like other teams, and why certain religious groups will kill anyone who doesn't believe in the same sky fairy. You'd think by know, as a species, we would have moved past this, but if anything it seems to be getting worse.

Weird. Hundreds of thousand or millions of people playing sim racing games and they don't have a homogeneous opinion about their car preferences. Truly shocking.

Well I just had my first game crash. Driving the Lotus Evora GTC (pretty nice car) round Mugello, free practice, came round the final corner onto the start/finish straight and the car just suddenly froze on track; could still hear the engine revving but the wheel and everything else had frozen, my T300 then starting spinning round crazily. I finally managed to get the start menu up and return to the pits but nothing was responding. Had to quit & reload.

Now what was the name of that other game I played where this kind of thing was a feature?
Still 3 to go to become a PCars member .
How long where you playing before Bloody Marry came al long Bleeder ?

Probably between 2-2.5hrs. Had been tuning the BMW Z4 GT3 for most of that (awesome car as predicted), then I switched to the Lotus and it crashed. I blame the Lotus, of course.

Just imagine what it's like when you drive one of the Alfas, it crashes every other lap!

Go read the AC thread on PCars forum...in fact, don't, spare yourself.
I've been dipping back into Forza 6 recently and I just use the controller and i'm having a blast, also just picked up pretty much all the FH2 content as in a fire sale on xbox live due to FH3, so will be trying to find some time to play FH2 more.
So thats my 'arcade noob plays with controller' side ;)
I do love gaming full stop. I love everything about the process of playing games, have done since I was kid. Gaming is my SAD light.
I have no time for this tribal stuff, honestly anything i have to say about any game is from a genuine place and never to fit an agenda. I think you understand that at least.
This is the problem that these odd balls create with their rabid tribalism, that when a 'normal' person makes a remark about something from a genuine place, odd ball people automatically assume they are talking it down to big something else up because that what their agenda is.

I am not the only one who has a wonderful imagination about the improvement (less screen tearing) there was the person on reddit and another on the official AC forums. Not a big deal, just wondered if others here noticed but I guess the answer to that is no .

Most importantly as other have stated Kunos knows there is an issue and the patch is on the way.

I'd imagine there's plenty on the official forums don't believe there is any screen tearing since day one.

Oh - yeah there are! but I am not talking about them. Just one person like me who got the placebo affect after the patch was installed.

Certainly wasn't referring to you. 👍 In my opinion, the more people sim racing the better it is for all of us, regardless of what platform or particular game you play. :D

I haven't wandered into the console lounge much but in the general forum sections I haven't seen any more AC apologists than normal dismissing the console issues, but then the apologist population is already pretty high there so it might be difficult to notice any uptick. For the opposite, go to RaceDepartment where most AC threads are quickly populated by the same group of people who go out of their way to find and point out negative aspects or shortcomings of AC. That's why GTP is still my forum of choice, for the most part everyone in the AC threads are level-headed and sensible and most of us seem to fall somewhere near the center between fanboy and hater.

racing is racing whether it is on foot, a skateboard or an SUV, AC isn't called "your racing series simulator" so there is nout wrong with the Levante being in AC. Not that I would have voted for it to be in though.

I have been ignoring the Audi A1, every time I scroll through I just think meh. I gave it a try the other day on the ring against 15 AI same model and it is a brilliant car with TC off, a lot off fun. So I welcome any car, even ones that don't appeal to me.

Just broke my alien virginity and won my first race against the hardest AI level. Wasn't actually all that hard - Quick race @ Silverstone GP in the Lotus Evora GTC against a field of 11 over 4 laps. Was in first place by the middle of lap 2 and was lapping them over a second quicker per lap. AI Not balanced very well methinks.

Glad I didn't do more laps in that race or it would've gotten pretty lonely. It's always a hard thing to balance the AI in a way so you get a good race no matter how many laps you choose. Perhaps they're just not that quick at this particular track.

I'll try my luck in some other cars but my tuned Evora destroyed them. Which was nice.

I know and i was extremely clear on the fact it was down to personal choice and i pointed out what the masses want, which judging by Forza is SUV's and crazy mad cap vehicles (in Forza's defense they have so many cars they can get away with some weird ones).
It's fine no problem. My choice would be more racing focus like RaceRoom or PCars but its already pretty apparent AC isn't that sort of game which is fine the physics and FFB will mean it'll get played plenty.

A bit of a n00b question here, but after a cursory look around their site, I can't seem to figure out any console DLC schedule... (if there is one yet)
I wanted to get hold of the Japanese pack most of all - can anyone possibly enlighten me on news of that? Rough date, cost maybe?

On PC all the other sims pretty much only offer racing cars, I think AC wanted to be a bit different and offer street cars since none of the other sims really do. That's how they approach most things, they don't want to be a carbon copy of what's come before, they want to branch out and try to stand out by doing different things (which is sometimes good, sometimes not so good). And again, it also comes down to licensing. Manufacturers seem keen to get their current road car offerings into a modern sim and it's quite likely that in order for Kunos to get the racing cars in the game they also are asked to include some street cars.

Personally I like that the street cars are there, I can race race cars around circuits in R3E, rF2, iRacing, GTR, etc. but sometimes I just want to grab a street car and cruise around Lake Louise or the Nords while blaring some tunes and sipping a beer and that's such a different experience than white knuckle racing, it can be relaxing. None of the other sims really offer that experience and sometimes it's a nice change of pace.

Just my opinion, of course.
