A majority of people, who have both SIM, including me, will agree to this statement.
what needs to be remembered is that both are an interpretation of what simulating driving on a computer can be, so anyone can prefer one or the other and still be right.
A lot of efforts have been made in both SIM to make it as true to life as (presently) possible, using different approach. We are privileged to be able to experience both for very little money and it would be a shame not to.
Well said, @Cote Dazur. I look forward to trying other PC Sims, hopefully soon. It seems like each has it's pro's, while each also has it's cons.

For me it's not even friends, any other people will do. I know the total number of players into online racing on either AC or GT is tiny compared to the number playing by themselves, but man, look at the online presence GT6 still has.

Honestly the sound is more of an issue for me than physics comparing GT vs. AC. I came to peace with GT's physics after 10 or so hours online in AC. I had a few interesting races, but out of the few people I encountered online I'm either miles ahead of them or they're miles ahead of me. Too few and far in between for fun racing. Meanwhile, how realistically was the car driving? It didn't matter that much. Maybe if my brakes wouldn't keep locking up at 1/4 brake pedal stroke I could have caught up to the guys out front and had more fun  chalk up "pedal calibration" as one more thing to look forward to in an AC patch!

I'll say GT's driving experience is vanilla compared to AC. But the close and usually clean online racing that is essentially on demand through quick match in GT more than makes up for that. (I say usually clean - most races start off as a disaster, but once the quick guys shake out to the front it's good times.) I am not someone who goes out of their way to make the online experience work - I'm really not that hardcore at all. Which is why I'm excited for GT Sport and simultaneously worried for AC. I don't like to talk optimistically about PD, but if GTS improves on GT6 quick match even slightly you'll find me nowhere else. I think the ranking/matchmaking system will do much more than slightly improve the experience, and I think they will draw a lot of unlikely folks like me online. Then if Porsche straightens up like all other auto makers re: allowing the use of their name and cars in basically all racing games.. it won't be long before they're in GT and I'll really have no reason to fire up AC at all :guilty:

You're not alone. Every person who's come through this forum has said the online portion is like a ghost town, which is very strange to me. Especially in the early days of release. I could see people eventually getting fed up with certain friends region locked out, not liking the car/track combos available, etc. Yet, it seemed like from Day 1 everybody was saying the same thing "Online is empty!". I believe that GTSport will have an enormous online presence whenever it eventually launches, from Day 1.

What kind of pedals do you have? I personally have to press down on my pedal 100% before I even slip into 1st gear to ensure that I get full range pedal travel. I do the same with my throttle, just to be safe. Many others have told me they have to do the same. I'm using a DFGT wheel and the included pedals. Try that the next time you're heading out on the track. If I don't do that. My brakes will lock up if I even breathe on the pedal. Or, if I only press half way down, when I start driving my brakes will go to 100% when I've only pressed halfway with my foot. I have a little app on my screen that indicates pedal pedal use, so it's a quick reminder if I don't "calibrate" the thing before driving off. I swear that I had to do this in GT6 too, although, I may just be misremembering as it was over a year ago that I stopped playing GT6.

It did feel weird to me as well at the beginning, but after a couple of laps I was already missing the whole helmet feature on AC. :)

About the sun, since they do have to place it somewhere (and also draw its trajectory, to differentiate morning from afternoon), why not place it correctly in the first place?

The way the sun/lighting is done on Project CARS makes it look more realistic. Though sometimes Assetto Corsa can get it right. I remember how nice Silverstone looked as you could see the lovely pitted shiny tarmac and overall lighting in the morning. The lighting looked very realistic. However other times Assetto Corsa can sometimes look a bit toony and flat very matte like when the lighting is wrong. :/

Sometimes Assetto Corsa's lighting reminds me of the same style as GT5/6. A slight cool lifeless atmosphere.

GT6 having an online presence is not surprising. There's nothing else to do.

As for the brake in AC. When you start the game and you get to the screen that prompts you to press X. Don't.

Push down on your pedals. then press X. That's the calibration point. No more lock ups quarter pedal.

- the other thing that I noticed straight away was how different the sun position was in each game, especially since I had set both games for 17:30. Well, after checking the layout of Imola at Google Earth, I came to the conclusion that AC is wrong and pCARS is right (or, at least, closer to reality). According to Kunos, the sun sets in the East.

Go home sun, you're drunk. 17:30 is also too early for sunset as the leaves in AC are green like early summer. On June 1st the sun will set at 20:50 in Imola.

Sometimes Assetto Corsa's lighting reminds me of the same style as GT5/6. A slight cool lifeless atmosphere.

GT6 didn't go light (no pun) on the astronomy though.

And don't forget we get lovely black smoke in the sky instead of clouds in AC... :sly:

I always wondered what that was. I also hate these track conditions. Sometimes dependant where you are on the track you can see the dark texture nicely then it goes so dim you have to concentrate so hard like night driving as some parts become so dark. Let alone why the damn headlights don't even light up the track...

If only those dark sessions looked like...

Or at least..

I know I'm in the minority here, but I personally don't really care about night driving and I especially don't care about rain. It's hard enough for these games to get driving right on dry tar. Wet pavement? I would never, ever purposely use rain as a setting. I probably wouldn't even use night...but who knows? I didn't really care for it in GT6. I can't remember ever setting the time of day to night time. It would always be someone else's decision in a room I was in, or something like that. I know they're desired by many - just giving my personal feeling on those two things.

I'm personally not bothered about rain but at least make the lights lights up the road. Assetto Corsa dark track settings look like the atmosphere before a downpour or thunderstorm.

I quite like how AC's lights don't light anything up, even if it's unrealistic. It lets me see my fancy dash lit up without shining on the rear end of my opponents. Also handy for spotting your car during the replays. If pCARS had the option to illuminate dash without turning headlights on I'd use it all the time.

I think I asked once before and someone provided me some info, but I'm ashamed to admit I forgot to take care of it then...

Does anyone have some decent FFB Settings for Project Cars w/DFGT wheel & pedals? I want to try the free Pagani Edition, but the way the wheel is, with no adjustments is unplayable. :grumpy: I'm not sure I trust those guys in the pCars forum. :sly: Actually, I'm just lazy and this window was open.

Well the FFB is twofold: there's a big list of global settings with lots of sliders than will blow your mind (just concentrate on tire force and the FFB slider here IMO) and then you have multiple sliders per car. It's really a minefield. Like, ridiculous compared to AC. I left my global FFB on 75 and lowered the tire force too, can;t remember to what though.

Just remember this for the sliders (as it won't be properly explained in the options):
Fx: for FFB when braking
Fy: how heavy the wheel feels
Fz: for feeling bumps and curbs
Mz: the FFB felt when losing traction.

If you've never played pCARS before you'll probably laugh at all the sliders and will spend the first week tinkering with FFB and display options.

Good game though.

And good luck!

I dont know who was the lucid guy who thought it was a good idea to have a predefined horse 🤬 configuration, and a million sliders to configure.

AC is plug and play (not with the controller though).

Yeah, whoever it was must have arms like tree trunks because the default settings are damn hard work.
YES! That's the very first thing I thought. WTF?! How can a Pagani Huayra possibly feel anything like this?!

It's ridiculous. I'll probably just uninstall the thing.

I have T300 with stock 2-pedal set, this is PS4. I do the push down pedals at "press X" screen thing and I think it helps, but it still locks brakes or kicks ABS on like mad before half pedal stroke. Thanks though.

All cars have slider set to maximum, it's ridiculous, and that's apparently after SMS tweaked their FFB. Just turn the 4 I mentioned down to 60 or so, go from there. I think I had the Fy slider lower than all the others.

He also said that delay between pc and console dlc will be shorter with the next packs. Thank god... i hope hes right...

where is he saying all of this? I saw the quoted tweet, but havent seen anything about the red pack, or shorter delays between packs. I've been frequenting the AC forum and havent seen anything useful there either.

Just look at the link and his latest tweets ;)

Please tell me you didn't say PCARS, online and AI in the same sentence ! I thought you put the game back in the case and we're done with it!

Regrettably I have reverted to racing with my friends on PCARS :-( I should say, the few that still want to run it.

My opinions of PCARS still stand and it is still full of bugs with the inevitable crash back to the main menu screen and the report the problem to Sony, the invisible walls, the cars sticking together etc, etc BUT at least we can run what we want, where we want, with the weather we want with whom we want.

As far as AC goes my rose tinted glasses have fallen off and I have stopped playing it until there are some real updates coming through. Playing online is a PITA, I have finished the career mode and I have been overwhelmed by the special events (especially the way the AI behave) :-(

Here is online players in open lobbies on a few PS4 games tonight between 7pm and 7:15pm est.

144 players; F1 2016
123 players; NASCAR Heat
79 players; Project Cars
8 players; Assetto Corsa (6 in Drift/ 2 in Race)
7 players; Dirt Rally (Rally Cross)

Gotta love a thread that can go off-topic 8 different ways for days, without a mod peeping in. :P Ooops.

I have AC on both PS4 and PC, and PC usually gets 90% of the drive time, lately. Mainly due to the Porsches :scared:, no sound glitches, and hundreds of mods.

Did some PS4 races with friends and it's easy w/ the party chat to get in the same room. We'll probably try again when online gets a bit better, until then, semi-hotlapping and driving AC makes the wait for the next GT eeeasy. :D

You know What's really killing this game for me and infuriating me? The absolutely ridiculous penalties! I just put one wheel beyond the curb on the last corner at Imola and got a 5 second penalty...This brings me to my age old question, do devs even play their own damn games? Note i am not cutting corners, I'm in many cases coming back on where i went off or simply grazing the grass.

I would tend to agree here. I want to know why they (any dev for that matter) can'y use a real life example and give you 2 or 3 warnings followed by a drive through penalty. Surely it would be relatively simple to have some sort of black flag system in these cases.

Obviously a deliberate short cut or cheat would still need a DSQ. But then if you take recent events in F1 where Lewis Hamilton can cut a whole corner and get away with it it still makes one wonder ;-)

This has all been a big beef for me. I'm doing hotlaps and it stops tracking because I screw up when I'm really trying to just improve my own race scores. I quit a race because of stupid penalties and I also have this problem with pcars.

It never ceases to amaze me how game devs spend so much time making the tracks, cars, & physics so realistic, but then roll out the same tired old arcade fantasy penalty clichés!

This is another good example of that IMO:
Brand new, state of the art wheel and base from TM and the wheel looks like it belongs on the T80:indiff::
