Edit: I haven't tried the "sequential plate" on the shifter yet, but i imagine you can change gear without lifting, like in real life.

Depends on the car. Well, technically you can shift without lifting but in cars that weren't designed with that in mind (like vintage cars or any cars with an h-gate) you'll get real high revs between upshifts if you don't lift and you'll light up the rear tires when you downshift if you don't blip. If you enable auto clutch and auto blip those problems go away and you can upshift/downshift without lifting and without worries.

Concerning the career, does anyone yearn for what Grid Autosport did? The memorable battles with rival teams such as Ravenwest and Kicker, and the recognisable drivers you get to know - plus the added drama which reverse grids gave.

I had so many intense battles and memorable moments with rivals - i just wish that could translate over to the great physics of todays sims.

In AC and Pcars,i feel the other AI drivers are so bland and forgettable - i proper long for an in depth championship i can look forward to. Anyone have any views on this?

Yes!

What are your plans for creating a custom championship? How many tracks and which racing class? Can you put mandotory pitstops into it?

No clue, I haven't looked at it yet. I don't do much/any offline racing but I plan to check it out at some point.

I thought that's what the Auto-Clutch option was for? That freakin' option -- I don't think I'll ever understand it.

Auto clutch behavior seems to vary. I tried enabling it once when I was using the h-gate to see if I could shift without using the clutch but for some reason it wasn't quite working right, I forget the details but I seem to recall it having very odd behavior when I was stationary in the pits, like it just started pulling away without me doing anything. Imagine if you got in your car and then started the engine with first gear engaged and the clutch out, so as soon as it turns over it just starts lurching forward. Not good. I use auto clutch when I'm using my sequential shifter in older cars and don't feel like lifting/blipping (see my first comment in this post to learn what happens when you do that without using auto clutch).

meaning for example multiclass with LMP and GT or whatever.

Until the LMP AI starts a Trulli Train behind the lapped GT cars. :dunce: :banghead:  But hopefully that will be addressed at some point because there's a lot of multi-class action just waiting to be had.

From what i have seen from the pc version you can select a racing calendar, length and conditions, points system. And you can set up your own field of Cars, meaning for example multiclass with LMP and GT or whatever.

What you cant do is mandatory pitstop.
Can't recall where i read it, maybe the latest blog, but they aren't done with custom championships. I'm pretty sure i read they have more plans.

This is what really annoys me...its supposed to be a true race simulator but we cant have pit stops?! I just dont get it...does the pit lane actually function in the game?

We can have all the pit stops we want if the race is long enough to warrant them naturally. Just can't force a pit stop in a short race (yet). Hope that option is added though, it's something I'd really like to have.

My Thrustmaster TH8A shifter finally showed up today, and what fun, and really emersive, just lacking consistancy atm, but that will come with time!! 👍 I'm still using the basic pedals that came with the T150, so i have to "blip" the throttle by lifting off between each gear change, therefore i'll need to upgrade to some "Pros" soon, but still great fun!
Been waiting weeks for a TH8A here. Seems to be out of stock everywhere I look so I wait for Amazon to ship at some point:(

I have nowhere to mount a TH8A. :grumpy: Whenever I finally get around to buying a new set of pedals a stick-shift will be ordered the same day.

For those of you getting/having a new TH8A I recommend also getting a short throw plate (or short shift plate or whatever they're called).
do you mean the sequential shifter plate which is delivered together with the TH8A? So far I have not used this plate...only 8 shifter

Oooh and by the way. I think the last AC race was too intense. See pics :(
The 'steer plate holder' broke while racing AC is that on topic then ;)

No I meant a plate that makes the stick travel distance shorter, such as the ones pictured here. I'm not sure if @patrickd018 makes those any more though, but you could ask him. The ones I bought from him were of stellar quality. Really smooth.

There's also this:

That's the one I've got and it's a great but of kit.

My thoughts in more detail

This whole conversation on the TH8A and the beginning of that video from ISR reminded me to share with you that I've successfully mounted my shifter directly on the Playseat Challenge.

It may not be as good as properly hard-mounted on something more solid, but it works really damn well and you don't need any kind of accessory or add-on. It then folds nicely along with the rest of the chair.

Very happy about it. 👍

Great stuff!!

I need to adjust/make something to mount my shifter, it's too hight alongside my wheel, feels more like i'm driving a 16 wheeler truck than a Sports/Racecar lol!!

Console Update coming this Tuesday

Very nice. And yes it only says Red Pack in the Tweet but they release both in one Patch as has been announced previously

I hope it will actually be available to download that date, not just showing the cars with the download symbol next to them and having to wait one or two more days to actually get them.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. ;) Not sure why that happens (even happened on the PC a few times IIRC, but only for a very short period) but it seems to be pretty consistent so far.

Anyone knows if the downshift bug had been addressed? I placed the game on hold since it popped out...
If you use a 3-pedal setup, some have found that pumping the clutch a few times seems to improve things. As if there is some calibration issue that interferes with downshifting.

For those of you getting/having a new TH8A I recommend also getting a short throw plate (or short shift plate or whatever they're called).

Or make your own short shifter.. it is REALLY easy and cheap...

On another note... with the T300 on the PS4, how do you use DRS and KERS now? Before it was L3 or R3 for DRS.

The control window shows the label for KERS and DRS but not mapped to anything...

I have been off this game since before the 1.09/1.10 patches and it has really improved and there are people online racing in the mornings when I have the most time to play which is awesome. Sadly I am really rusty and struggled, but still it is rad. 👍

Hopefully they give us more FOV and seat adjustments in an update soon.

I've not played it yet, but I've decided to approach this differently to Forza, so I don't do my usual drive a car just to shoot it routine. Cockpit view only so I can immerse myself better.

Be careful of the weight of the shift knob. The sequential shift knob I recently got from TM has some heft to it and they specifically state not to use it for the h-gate shifter because the extra weight can damage the mechanisms.

Interesting.. did not know that. The one I use is hollow and hardly weighs more than the original. With the shorter lighter shaft I believe it is all about the same. Good to know though.

Sounds like you should be good then. 👍 The sequential knob is quite heavy, probably similar to an old school metal stapler, so I could see how it could do some damage if it was getting rocked about. The stock round knob feels like a feather in comparison.

Oh another thing I noticed on ps4 this morning after not being on for a long time... the soft lock is not there on the modern Lotus Formula car. (125?) I can turn my T300 all the way around, but I can see the car's wheels stop moving right around where I would expect the lock to be on a formula car.

Is this known? or did I accidentally take my wheel out of automatic wheel rotation mode?

Never knew of all the little effects like the starry shine and the lights. Though the star light glare you'd expect at night.
