XB1 hardware is quite inferior to the PS4, especially in the graphics department. Should be no surprise that they are struggling to get 60 fps out of a game originally designed to run on mid-range gaming PC's. Porting Forza over to PC should be a lot more straightforward.
not really, while x86 helps a lot there is the issue of an api change. depending on how its made this can vary from something that can be done in a short around of time, couple of weeks or even days in some cases. On the other hand it can be complete hell. Devs also seem to think DRM is good thing(because the higher ups are honestly clueless when it comes to piracy) so compatibility has to be made. Compatibility has to be made for many graphic and cpu solutions, this has always caused me trouble, pretty much every game ive made fails to work effectively on amd cpus of the "bulldozer" generation and i have no clue why. Hopefully that is just my lack of experience and not a global issue. Extra things might be added as microsoft will want to shill this to complete hell, maybe add new features so it seems like there are pc exclusives and its not a straight port. The AI will be the biggest problem though, 100% sure of that. Trust me, ive helped port a few games and its not as easy as people expect, though i do hear horror stories of what it was like when porting from ps3, might as well straight from scratch.

It still amazes me that Microsoft isn't a all doing cross platform play with PC. You'd think they would take advantage of the amount of people on both platforms considering where they came from.

From what I saw up close during Project CARS development, at least for GPU's, it was mostly a driver thing from AMD. It's a bit better now with Windows 10, but for Windows 8, CPU overhead on their GPU drivers was abysmal, and coupled with a lack of interest from their side to actually fix it, it lead to very large differences in performance between AMD and nVidia. Funny thing, because the game had no such issues on AMD hardware in the consoles, only on PC. With nVidia it was a night and day difference; they actively helped optimize and tune their drivers and basically had that all done before the game was launched.

But what's more worrying is if they're going to stick to that common game platform of MS (UWP), it's known to have several limitations compared to standalone or Steam.

But this is a bit offtopic of course, and quite irrelevant for AC. ;)

assetto corsa lucked out a bit on pc, they got the yebis 2 post processing suite(they have licensed yebis 3 but not jumped to it yet for whatever reason) and ive seen a few students that work with me use it. Cheap as hell for students but its cheeky, post processing is a drug for devs, get a dependency on it and then when you are out of university or college in some countries boom the price explodes into something way larger. Anyways post processors from what ive seen are extremely see to optimize(apart from reflections, those are always brutal and taxing). Pcars manually made a lot of their effects for pcars, that clearly wasnt as successful.

All true but i don't really think AC's thing is the graphics anyway, certainly not even close to PCars graphics. The Xbox 360 walked all over the PS3 but they have dropped the ball a bit with Xbox One.
I do remember a lot of the GT fans and PS fans defending the 'standard' cars in GT by "its not all about the graphics though"....

I'll stand by what i've said about SMS and PCars with this, if your going to take the console mega bucks and release multi platform then you can't do that then turn round and start blaming the console for a bad game.... if your not happy with the xbox, hey, don't release the game on it.... ethically if they do and its bad because of the xbox one then its their fault for sticking with it...
Personally I'm close to sticking the xbox one in the family room and getting a PS4 for my man cave... yes i'm on GTplanet and i own an xbox!!!

Hey, I like this place...so sue me..

Christ you missed the point by such a huge margin I'm not sure explaining it will help you.

But here goes...

You order a nice meal in a restaurant, its expensive, you heard its the best place to eat with the finest chef....you order a dish, 30 mins later they come to table to say its not quite ready sorry for the wait...so you sit back, relax and drink some more wine...then they come back 20 mins later.. "sorry sir the chef is making sure your meal is to his highest standards".... you wait some more, "sir would you like some more wine?"..... after a bit you start to wonder what they are running here..

If the above is SMS and PCars the dish comes out and is amazing.... but its cold.

*I will just edit your last line here for you ;-)*

If the above is SMS and PCars the dish comes out and is amazing.... but its cold and there are a couple of Cockroaches crawling over the food.

*I will now expand it a little*

Then you notice it was served on a dirty plate and the cutlery is one chopstick and a fork and you get that horrible sinking feeling that perhaps you should not have rushed into this new restaurant so early.

Then, when you ask for a steak knife you get told to wait for the next course. This incenses all the restaurant fanboys that then chip in and ridicule you for complaining and not giving the chef a fair go and it must be your fault that there are Cockroaches and it is the result of your poor hygiene.

I have now walked away from the restaurant (after 9 courses) with a very bad taste in my mouth. I have since seen that cockroaches aren't there any more but the food is still riddled with maggots and weevils. I have also noticed some fanboys have even been chucked out of the restaurant because they also noticed the unhygienic conditions too ;-)

I was even conned into trying a free ice cream (the free Falcon FG) but after the first lick the top fell off the cone and it splattered on the sidewalk. Lucky because it tasted horrible ;-)

BTW the cutlery reference is because I am a Fantec owner :-(

If the above is SMS and PCars it goes like this.
You order a nice meal at a restaurant, new restaurant, opening delayed 6 months, highly secretive, but those "in the know" make it sound like it will be the greatest restaurant in history. It finally opens, you order a meal. The waiter is pushing a cart with your drinks on it to your table and an invisible wall pops up, crashing the cart and spilling your drinks. Not to worry, here's some water to get you through. You look around and see that most of the other patrons aren't behaving themselves and are throwing biscuits around and swearing a lot. Your meal is late, you're hungry and tired of waiting, you aren't happy so you ask to speak to the chef.

Out of the kitchen walks a wookie, he takes one look at you and says, "Banished, get out of my restaurant and don't come back"

After that you announce your restaurant share for sale at half the price, but nobody wants to buy it.So next time Mr.Wookie please do your job properly with the pre-order meal 2 or you may lose your sim-restaurant business.

Add to that you tell the disgruntled customer that the new Restaurant that they are developing when that's ready it will have all of the things the 1st restaurant should of had and more, so please come along to that once its open as the 1st one was in fact just an experiment and we out sourced quality control on the cheap using basically an old bunch of stuff we had left over from another restaurant that we did with a big nasty restaurant chain....

Truth is if PCars was a restaurant its so full of bugs it would of been closed down.
The saving grace for all of this is that gamers are just that.. gamers, we can find a game from anything and in the most unlikely of places DESPITE if a game has flaws, for an example see the 'FFB Game' that PCars created, the game becomes trying to find FFB gold... its oddly addictive and very rewarding.

The "FFB game" is only a game to a hardcore few that find that kind of frustration challenging and have the time and energy to waste chasing elusive gameplay settings. IMO it was a huge error on their part and not something we have to worry about with AC...assuming they didn't change the FFB settings for the console release.

The only reason I see for so many adjustment is that the core FFB, which after all reacts to the physic, is not very good. So you can play with it all you want, it never will be very good and it can always be blamed on a bad setting.
We don't have to worry about that with AC, physic is great and so is the FFB. No need to hide it behind 30 sliders.

I really like this story, much better than my poor attempt with piggyback ECU  Gold

I think we are trying to give Kunos the hint not to make the same mistakes as SMS.
The chance Kunos is gonna read these posts above is VERY small, you'd better post directly in the official forum in a CONSTRUCTIVE WAY if you wanna give a hint to Kunos.

Ooops.....i'm at the wrong place........i thought this thread was about Assetto Corsa........
Apparently not

Did Ian send you or are you going rouge hoping to report back and get a 'like' from the big man....

The connection is that AC has had a delay, but we are hoping it doesn't turn into PCars debacle because one delay can be crossed off as being necessary and maybe sign of just being thorough... 2 to 3 delays and 10 patches in 10 odd months is a sign of a c0ck up...

Ian and his team and band of clingons and desparado's tell us we should be grateful of the 'fixes' , that's like a roofer fitting a new roof then you find out it rains and you get leaks so he comes back 9 times but still there's problems , then he turns around and says you should be grateful he didn't just do a runner with your money......
Its like a race to the bottom..

When I heard that AC had been delayed to 'polish' it, I had a good laugh

Here we go again. Funniest thing? I'll still buy it on day one :lol:

To be honest, the pcars delay just got beyond the joke, that was what? 18 months or more? Yet 12 months ago the idea of AC coming to console was just a fantasized idea, I honestly thought that at best we wouldn't see AC on console until November 2016 at best, April was incredibly ambitious so June is still great in my eyes,

And again you start about PCARS, we all know by now you hate PCARS for the obvious reasons. Why keep saying the same thing over and over again on every thread on every game section of this forum.
GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON !!!

Actually its not, i know for a fact that kunos and their peons are all over the place within the internet. And of course im sure their web of beta testers are giving them great suggestions as well. Its hard to tell how close everyone is or isnt to a developer. Hell ive directly made games on steam and made suggestion threads "as a consumer" just to see how people would react to it.

PC moreover the simulation sector is a very odd fanbase, rather different from everything else ive got myself entangled within.

As at least one member seems to believe that the AUP is optional, let me make it clear to everyone posting in here.

The AUP is not optional and if a member of staff requests that the thread get back on topic, then its a very good idea to do so (unless formal warnings and/or a holiday from GTP are on your wish list).

I'm confident that Assetto Corsa will be one of the more solid releases on consoles at launch.
I agree, if you look at this first previews on console from Team VVV, i'm very confident it will be a good sim.

Alan did some reviews a few months ago that turned out to not quite full and complete shall we say. The days of having complete faith in a reviewer says are pretty much gone in my eyes, at least in this genre.

To be fair to Alan, he made some very cautious statements in recent reviews. It's the British reserve to be polite. If you watch his reviews carefully you can read between the lines and understand that what he doesn't say or things said without enthusiasm mean something else. And he clearly has limits on what he says, presumably due to the agreements he makes to keep his journalistic access to previews and suchlike.

The problem is that these subtle cues aren't so easy for non British nationals to pick up on, I suspect.
