Guys if you are at Le mans get your asses over to the Porsche experience center, the 911 2016 is playable there. though you will have to wait in line.

I was thinking to myself, what could this announcement be, and I thought "what is the least likely thing it could be?" I wish I could have put money on it.

Did Kunos really manage to cough up enough cash for the Porsche license or has it finally expired? Fantastic news nontheless!

I hope 930 and 964 will be in AC, those are more of my cup of tea than the newer ones like 991 which I find meh.
I happen to have user created mods of both of those generations of 911. No offense to whomever created these cars - I think they're rips from other games - but the physics aren't great on either. However, they are both certainly driveable. I'm sure someone knowledgeable with Assetto Corsa physics could fix both cars in a few days of tweaking & testing. They are a blast to drive. The 930 Turbo is so much fun. The engine feels like it's hanging off the back bumper!

out of the porsches or rips or whatever that are in ac atm the 944 turbo has nailed it 100% i have experience in the real car. the gt3 rs is also pretty spot on in terms of the numbers and the suspension geometry. Great thing about porsche is that they have documents and blue prints on just about everything. In terms of documentation they are by far the best and it matters a lot for a car made before the digital age. sadly its 500k polys which is insane.

My interest for this game is really increasing but there's one thing that I would like to know, is there any sort of career for this game or is it just a hot lap simulator?

There's a career. It's a bit, basic, compared to some other games but there's a lot of races and challenges to do.

yeah there is a career but its no thrills, kunos dont really have the budget to go nuts with the presentation that career mode.

The more interesting part for me personally is the special events tab, i believe there are around 100 events now and they are all unique in their own way generally attempting to replicate a race that happened at some point so you have things like the old f1 1967 races at monza to takumi drifting his ae86 around to beating the stigs lap time, drag racing, laferrari vs P1 etc etc.

They tend to add several special events with each update

Thanks for the reply. Is there any championships or qualifying in races? Also, if you played their career, how long should it take to complete every event?

There are championships and qualifying, you can skip the quali and free practise if you want. Some of the earlier races in the campaign are straight up races though.

I speed ran through the campaign a while back and to get to the credits so to speak it took around 8 hours. To 100% the campaign it would take around 20-25 hours at a guess depending on how much you qualify.

Special events is another 15-20 hours to complete but that keeps on growing so it might be closer to 25 hours by the time you guys get it in August.

That sounds really good, you just convinced me to definately pre-order the game.
There should be enough of content to keep me occupied since I'm not really the online type kind of guy.

I think you'll be fairly pleased with it. It could be better, but it's miles better than any Gran Turismo career for sure. Plus you can create your own races against your choice of cars, complete with qualifying, at much longer distances. So if you get through the career and challenges you can DIY whatever kind of races you want. One thing to keep in mind is that AC evolves at a fairly quick pace, it's considerably different today than what it was at this time last year, so the offline selection will likely continue to expand over its lifetime. 👍

Two things about AC on PS4 that make me think twice before getting too hyped are the quality (lack of?) of the AI and also the maximum single player grid of only 16 cars (including the player). Is 16 enough? I'm not interested in online so these things matter to me.

I haven't raced the AI too much but when I did I found their pace to be very good and their behaviour also pretty good, once you get past the first corner. As with a lot of fast AI, first corners are very challenging and there are often wrecks that take out multiple cars. If you're used to GT for example, the AI in AC will be a revelation. The difficulty slider means you can tune them to match your pace very closely.

They use the same physics as the player. That accounts for the numbers but they can be quick because of it so I'd take that over more cars but simple physics and odd behaviour myself.

I think the great thing with AC is, the cars and tracks are so detailed (laser scanned everything), no matter what happens in the future (license permitting) those tracks will always be carried over. Maybe just needs a texture polish here and there, maybe better lighting, but the basic mesh will remain usable forever.

So even though AC might have small content now compared to the bigger names, the only way from here is up 👍

While a lot is laser scanned, the bold bit is incorrect, not all is laser scanned.

As long as AC was only available on PC having original Kunos track laser scanned was great as we could always download modded track to complete our collection of tracks. Since allegedly it will not be possible for console user to add mod content, it might not be a bad idea for Kunos to change strategy and add non laser scan tracks a la Zanwoort

I'm just an average skilled driver when it comes to hot lapping times. I don't race as much as I should, so I'm definitely average skilled there too. I can definitely set the AI so that no matter how hard I try, I won't be able to beat them. Unless you're an alien, while you're getting used to the handling of AC I'm sure you'll be able to find many, many races that are extremely difficult to win.

Usually, I will create my own events and pick the cars that I want. I make sure they're all right around each other performance wise. Some times it's just fun to do a "track day" where I load up the maximum allowed number of cars for that particular track and I put everything from a little Abarth 500 all the way up to a LaFerrari and everything in-between. Those are usually pretty fun.
