While a lot is laser scanned, the bold bit is incorrect, not all is laser scanned.
True, Zandvoort isn't laser scanned, Old Monza obviously, Trento and the drag strip. But all the other circuits are and Zandvoort is an exceptional track for not being laser scanned It's full of bumps and undulations and far from the perfectly smooth creations you find in some other games. If I didn't know it wasn't laser scanned I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

About tracks being out of date, this will always been an issue. If laser scan data is available for the new version of the surface or layout it might be relatively easy to make the adjustments and add it as a new version to the track list but I'm guessing outside of a handful of really hardcore enthusiasts, no one will really care one way or the other.

It doesn't bother me much. RBR is getting an entirely new turn 1 area that goes straight past the current turn 1 and then loops around the hill much like the old A1 Ring layout (I believe most of it is already paved) and I think they're slightly modifying the final turns as well. So the version we get will probably be outdated before we even turn a lap on it, which in the grand scheme doesn't really matter but it's still a bit of a shame.

They could go back and re-scan the new sections but I'd imagine that won't be high on the priority list so it might be a while. But like you said, Zandvoort is so good that it shows laser-scanning isn't always necessary. Maybe they could just freestyle the new section and blend it with the scanned bits to make the new layout.

This is a great exemple of I would rather have the up to date layout non scanned than the older version scanned, as the scan is supposed to bring the up most realism, so if you where to go on the track you would know where the dips and bumps are IRL.
I enjoy AC laser scanned tracks as much as any one else, I think, but I also believe they are highly over rated by some fellow simmer. I also read and believe that if you try the laser scanned version from different developers of the same track, using the same scan, like Nordschleife, they are not identical, since a lot is done on top of the laser scan to create the track and that will change it.
Meanwhile, no one has done a decent version of Tremblant for AC or a version of the track I go to, Calabogie Motorsport, and that is a real shame. :sly:

Ah yes, forgot about Zandvoort. The quality is so good I always lump it with the laser scanned tracks :P Still, the basic premise still holds. The track mesh will still be high enough quality for today, next year and even when we are playing in 3D VR with hologram projectors and full tactile feedback. At +/-3 mm resolution (IIRC that's the laser scanner's limit) you can't get any more detailed than that.

Sort of. As long as the tracks aren't repaved or something. The Nordschleife is already out of date.

This is my biggest worry about laser scan. It's great to be able to boast about 100% accurate reproduction, but as soon as there's a slight change in the real world (doesn't even need to be a repave, even a simple crack in the tarmac just due to normal wear and tear) the whole model will be inaccurate.

Add in the fact that a lot of old circuits are completely gone and/or have a different layout. As someone who likes driving vintage circuits more than modern ones I'd rather have a reasonably accurate non-LS version than no LS version at all.

Meanwhile, no one has done a decent version of Tremblant for AC...

I wish. :indiff: It's my favorite track! 👍:sly:

But what makes it so special are the elevation changes, in particular it's signature triple apex, right-hand first corner. But I find elevation changes never really translate well through any race sim I've ever played. Laser scanned or not.

oh, i love that track! havent raced it since ferrari challenges trofeo pirelli and grid autosport! i am a sucker for elevation change.

Does anybody know anything about the two different versions of AC on console? In their FB post it only says "Performance" and "Prestige" Editions, but not whats part of those editions, respectively. *facepalm*

Performance edition is the one with 3 DLC cars.

Prestige 9 cars

Wooaah I know they are a small team with a tiny budget but the Ferrari on the pre-order picture looks like a mod. IMO it's the lightning, there is something strange and maybe the asset too. It seems to be a very solid game with great audio (much better than GTsport for sure), can I enjoy it with a controller? I haven't bought Project Cars because I've read it was awful without a wheel.

I've had loads of fun with a controller on PC.

Thanks, guys. Have to say though that I really hate that preorder whateveryaddayadda edition bonus crap. I was planning to buy the game on PS4 just to support Kunos but with 9 cars cut away just for some marketing nonsense, I might not. :yuck:

I really want and need my track day fix to complement DiRT Rally as well supporting Kunos, but the pre-order bonuses makes me very reluctant buying into it. A car or two just might have gone under my radar but 9, N-I-N-E, cars is borderline appalling.

I'm still considering getting the Prestige Edition, but it's nowhere near definite.

Don't look the picture... I realy think it's good in graphics and lighting. Here's a video of the PS4 version (and we all now that the YouTube videos are very compressed)

And yes,it's a very solid game, not only for his sounds, but very popular for his driving physics and their very accurate laser scanned track.
You can also play it with a controller, it seems to be very well implanted.. But you will lose a lot of feeling, because this kind of games are really made to enjoy with a wheel.

And the problem of project cars is the bad implementation of the controller and the difficulties to find a good setup.. But even with that project cars can ve very enjoyable on controller too

I'm nobody to say what a person have to do or no,but here in Spain the physical pre-order of assetto corsa prestige edition is at the same price as the performance edition (the normal one)and limited at 44'95€.. That not so bad price really.

What i realy don't understand is why the digital pre order on the PlayStation store cost 49'95€ for the performance edition.

What's really confusing is that they're holding out the Vette, which was given free to PC users (and I think the R8 was too). That being said, I don't think it cost anything extra to get the Prestige Edition so I don't know what the fuss is about. Just pre-order and you get the cars, I feel pretty confident in saying you guys will be pleased with the game so there's no need to be apprehensive about pre-ordering. I'm sure there will be a few bugs at release but Kunos is pretty quick to fix things and I expect it to be a far cry from the PCars debacle.

On the other hand, a lot of those cars are highly desired by players so I can't imagine that Kunos won't make them available to all players at some point. For some users to never be able to have access to the C7, Mustang, Fezza, GTR, and GT86 is unthinkable and unconscionable.

Well, my personal fuss is that I hate that preorder bonus crap in general out of principe and that I ll never preorder any game again after pcsrs. I didnt even preorder Uncharted 4 or No Mans Sky. From now on, I will just wait until a few days after release whether there are big catastrophes to report and if not, I will pounce.

no one likes it, its a stupid under handed way of advertising and pre ordering is just a stupid idea overall anyways. It bugs me that kunos allowed this to happen because its clearly 505 that have pulled this crap

where the heck is the Prestige pre order for US?

i wouldn't say it is awful without a wheel. i have had some amazing races using a controller. however, i can't help but think it would be way more enjoyable with a wheel.

I only play with a controller because I don't have the space to setup a wheel. There isn't sufficient room here to change your mind never mind swing a cat.

Out of the box PCars is really difficult with the controller. It took me an hour of constant adjustment to get it right to the point where I was totally comfortable. I haven't touched the settings since and I've been playing since launch day. Love the game and despite all it's bugs and glitches it is the most enjoyable racing game I have ever played. The feeling of racing and immersion is fabulous.

I'm very disappointed in AC having 9 cars locked away unless it is preordered. Especially such desirable ones.
What this means is they won't get a sale from me because I refuse to preorder, I'm not confident AC will be in a fit state on release day and I have learned my lesson after preordering PCars. There's no reason that I should trust that Kunos won't release a buggy mess of a game and by pulling this nonsense it is being unfair to those of us that are quite rightly being cautious about purchasing it until we know what state it is in. They have to earn our trust, not expect it. I wish that potential purchasers of AC would hold off buying it in protest but I know this won't happen and that's why companies get away with this sort of thing. I may get it if the game is good, but only once those cars are made available to everyone. It's such a stupid marketing tactic.

In my opinion, they will give it to us as DLC(cost may be a bit higher than the difference between price of Prestige pack and Performance pack) a week or two after release. First, the game already has few cars to play with. Locking away these many cars will further reveal the lack of content, which will really put people off.
Then, from their own standpoint, they look like the ones that treasure their work on this game. I mean, they have put so much time on car ffb and physics. There is no way they don't want to show what they've accomplished to more people.
Last but not least, from past experience, it is more likely for them to follow what PCars did. PCars also had the Modified Car pack as pre-order bonus, but SMS then released the pack very soon. And from other games like COD and BF, which the limited edition pre-order will include season pass, that season pass can be bought separately at a little higher price(the pre-order is more of a discount),so I don't think Kunos will go so extreme.

Cool FLX1981 , you are familiar with No man Sky 👍
Can"t wait to get my hands on this game seems to be something special I would say.

thanks for posting the video. i have checked their page multiple times a day since e3 in anticipation for a video! never have played on pc, but have followed it fairly closely and am quite happy that its getting good impressions from everyone saying that it feels like the exact same game just on console. surely you would be able to adjust the fov just like on the pc. i wonder if the console version will have the filters i heard of on pc, like you can get a old school 70s tv filter and everything looks like an old school race on tv. nothing more than eye candy, but it would be cool to see.
