Seems like they got it themselves and no subcontract with EA or anything, as Aris stressed 'ONLY' on AC in a tweet.
EA's evil reign over the magic Porsche license is finally over gents!
This alone might be the start of a new licensing and sublicensing season for porsche.
Can't wait till it comes out for ps4 then.

Well, looks like I have a good reason to buy the game now. Time to finally put the Porsche license to good use since EA couldn't.

I don't care what anybody says...Call me a fanboy if you want. I like to think I'm rational when I talk sims, but I can't help the fact that I think Assetto Corsa is the best driving experience available right now. This announcement MUST have everything to do with the quality of the driving simulation in Assetto Corsa. We all know it's not the most feature rich sim. It doesn't have the undisputed best sounds in the sim racing world, but it's driving physics & FFB are second to none, in my opinion, and I'd be willing to bet that's why Porsche went with Kunos. This isn't a sub-license from Electronic Arts, as far as I understand it. This is a deal directly with Porsche. Kunos doesn't have the deepest pockets out there, so it's gotta be because Porsche thinks Assetto Corsa can best represent their cars visually, audibly & most importantly actually driving the cars.

That's probably a good part of it, for sure. The other part would be exposure, AC has managed to spread it's name around and a lot of people know about it. I have a few regular gaming (non-racing) friends that have never heard of rFactor or R3E or Automobilista, but they've heard of AC and know it looks beautiful on YouTube videos.

With the move to consoles that exposure is going to go up tenfold and companies like to have lots of eyes on their products. The fact that they've scored a lot of other big licenses helps too, made the boys at Stuttgart feel like they were missing out on something that all the other manufactures have been enjoying and benefiting from. Kunos has formed pretty solid relationships with a lot of manufacturers and that likely helped them to score this deal. Definitely a big win for a small team.

I imagine that this will make it even easier to acquire further licenses from other brands as well. The mountain has been climbed. From now on it's downhill.

I don't know what I just watched, but I want it.

EDIT: I'm on the Twitter now for... whatever this is, and there are tears all over my face.

Invasion of the glorified beetles would have been my pick, but i guess "Porsche is coming" will do.

Edit: seems it will be a total of 20 cars divided in 2 packs

20 cars?! OMG... I was guessing probably 12-14, and then maybe a couple of those cars might have a S1 or whatever. 20?! Just take my money now, please...

Another feature is coming.

That's what happens when you turn Simulation Value up to 11!

So, about the Porsche pack. Um, did EA give up exclusivity or did they suddenly become more generous?
I don't think they gave it up. I think it expired and Porsche said "Yeah...We don't want you to have completely exclusive rights anymore." There are just too many alternatives for Porsche to represent their brand much, much better than EA ever will in one of their games. We all know Porsche doesn't give a crap about the money. It wouldn't surprise me if they regretted ever giving EA that deal so long ago.
