You are too diplomatic Jav, it is also held back by their developers: I can eventually tollerate standard cars but: too easy AI in career mode, no livery editor, (not even a pre-made skin editor like in Grid). No event editor, 1000 cars but you can't decide your opponents!! Slow annoying menu's.. wrong sound for many cars..
Basically after completing GT mode I found myself running in arcade mode trying to exploit the silly matching system as much as I can, or I should settle my life for online racing schedules, and still it has not been perfect because of lags, bugs and disconnections.

I'm done being frustrated over GT5... That being said, after that last interview came to light I can hardly blame the staff or development team for that matter. After reading that interview it's clear that the game's creator it's pretty much a micro managing leader with no sense of direction, narrow minded to critics(as constructive or destructive as may be) and too influenced by Sony for the game's good.
Thankfully I discovered the world of PC Sims and it's gonna be very very hard to pull me back to consoles.

Very GT5 like. Surprised no-one posted it.

Wish we had a "Thank You" or "Like" button we could click at the bottom of someone's post. Excellent post Jav!

Glad to see more of you guys are starting to see the light about PC sims. There is simply no going back once you've gotten a taste of it.

Agreed chromatic, looks very similar to gt in some ways. Cant believe we can soon test ac ourselves :D

Smoke effects still look meh ,love how they look in GT5 more.
Other than that, i could just watch replays of the suspension movement and body roll of this game all day long

Problem is GT5 smoke get pixelated. Maybe with PS4 when it's released (when?) will be great, but actually the smoke is one of the most annoying things in photo mode. How many times you get a good drift you want to take a pic but once you are there you need to find best angle possible trying to avoid that ugly "minecraft" looks?

And with the rain? How many times you see those ugly pixels coming out from other cars. I know PS3 has limited resources, but we can't blame PS3. PD know the specs, why they didn't calibrate the game on the hardware. GT5 prologue had a better balance.

Pixelation from my understanding is a result of.lack of Ram on the PS3.So PC sims should be able to produce the same result without pixelation but they don't yet sadly.

That was odd.

So is there a complete list of announced/confirmed cars and tracks? I keep seeing things that I think are "new" but it turns out they were announced months ago.

GT5 is a game with huge pottential, but unfourtunatelly held back by old outdated hardware and no direction.
If only we could get in those game files and fixed it ourselves!

Held back by old hardware? No. My laptop isn't even half as powerful as the PS3 but it can run all sims besides pCars. If my laptop can run iracing and netkar all the time, the PS3 is not holding GT5 back at all. It's the developers. They're too afraid to go all the way into the sim genre. I think they do a great job of a balancing act in between being console player friendly and being realistic, but we all know they don't match netkar, LFS or iracing, not at all. And yes, I did assume you meant physics, because obviously graphically, it may be held back a little but what sim looks better? So it would be an odd thing to complain about so I assumed you meant physics. Perhaps you meant online community? Another thing that's more held back by the developers than the PS3.

Really, the main things that hold GT5 back are

1. Lack of a single player game in the traditional progression fashion. It's more of a sandbox, both would have been nice.
2. Slow AI
3. Tyre model that does not work well with racing tyres (though its quite great at low grip tyres, especially for drifting)
4. Customisation options - Liveries, Choosing your AI opponents, fine tuning wheel setup etc
5. Unrealistic and clumbsy feeling gearbox/clutch system, compromise for gamepad users.

I mean the physics in GT5 are not bad, they are just incomplete and only good at certain areas, if PD were going for the "too scared to do it properly" approach then GT5 would not be so difficult to play. GT5 does take a great deal of skill, some cars far too difficult to drive in GT5 compared to other PC sims. If anything I think PD were definitely going for the full realism on the physics, they just did not achieve it.

I don't think AC really looks that much like GT5, I guess it's more in that style of look than other sims, but it still looks quite a bit different to my eyes atleast. AC to me looks a lot like Ferrari Virtual Academy, which is a spruced up Netkar.

Lets look at other sims. All the PC ones do racing tyres especially well. Gmotor based games, iRacing, NetKar etc. But at the same time, none of those can do drifting nearly as realistically or as convincingly as GT5. So while the current generation do things decently with physics, they are still also a long way off achieving a physics model that can behave properly in all scenarios.

I can live with a lot of GT5's flaws, for me the biggest game breaker is the pathetic engine sounds, then there's the incredibly flat and smooth tracks there's absolutely no feel to them, curbs are like painted stripes on the edge of the road and finally the silly physics that aolutomatically lock up the inside tires as soon as the outside tires come in contact with the grass(don't even have to be completely off).

So, ASSETTO CORSA is looking great. Don't care for all of the Lotuses... Loti... whatever that is plural.

I think most Brits would accept 'Lotii', but no one actually says that. Also I completely disagree, I want more! There's no Esprit so far, no Elite (the 60's one) or Carlton either. Still, what they have got will no doubt be great fun to drive, the Elan especially.

Lol! Thank you for the save!
You know, I'm actually interested on those Lotus cars we are getting. Those Roadsters will make for a hella fun Spec series! Hoping we get templates for the cars so we can make up our own custom skins!!

I've played a lot of racing games, and being very honest here I think that few games have been able to match GT5's tracks. GT5's version of Spa is by far the best Spa version I've raced on so far.

What I do not like with GT5 is the racing tyres modelling. My Peugeot 908 breaks out through 4th gear. LMP cars on racing tyres in real life have an incredible amount of grip, but this is nowhere to be seen in GT5.

When it comes to asthetics alone GT5 is up there, when it comes to recreating a proper racing enviroment and the full depth of the track it's a huge fail. On track layout I have to say they are close but not dead on accurate.

Spa, Suzuka are dead on accurate, infact I'm fairly sure they were laser scanned (just as bathurst is being done), if you compare them side by side to the iRacing versions they are identical, just as the Nordschleife (which I doubt was scanned) is by far the closest version to that track when you compare it to footage. The surfaces of the tracks in GT5 are not overly smooth or lifeless, its just the physics model/graphical appearance and how they interact with the tracks with most cars.

Drive around Le Mans and tell me that the surface is lifeless/smooth, one of the better tracks to see this example due to the high speed. Agree or disagree I personally think the majority of tracks in GT5 are exceptional.

The Le Mans is a poor track in GT5 in my view. GT4's version was very good, but now it's just imported into GT5. I'd love if they'd ever update that track. The trees that are copy-pasted along the last straight before the Mulsanne annoy me.

I also feel Tertre Rouge is a little bit off in GT5. In reality it's a very fast corner, and I feel it's a lot slower in GT5.

One of the most annoying graphical parts of any track for me, it just looks so bad, PS2 quality at a push.

I'm pretty sure they use GPS data for tracks and visual references (photos/videos), they're not laser scanned. If they were you can be sure PD would be telling us they are.

Spa is pretty close to iRacing's scan, but a bit tighter on some sections on the scan. Suzuka Is pretty damn good but the same as Spa, but with some more noticeable differences like the run from the 130R to the chicane and Spoon.
LeMans seems to be the where they've missed the most, particulary on the undulations of the track.
Nurburg Nordschleife is definitely the best out there to date! Let's see what AC brings to the table there!

They must have used some very old photo references, because the straight we are talking about has been very wide with the treeline quite far off the track for several years now.

I mean, the 24 hour race is such a great race in the game because of how spectacular GT5's day-night transition is and the wonderful lighting. But then it's all ruined during the day because of the outdated track textures.

Guys, if you want to discuss GT5... there is a whole forum for that somewhere around here, I heard. This thread isnt, though. Its apparently about some game called Assetto Corsa from some guys from the town of Ittuhlee or something.

Right!
So, what's gonna be our first GTP spot race when AC comes out??

Anything slow so I wont crash
I've never seen the KTM X-Bow in any decent game. That would be fun to try out.

Hmmm... That's a brilliant idea!! Get's my vote so far!! Now let's get Wardez in here and give us his idea!!
