the Parity Racing server is online! I have been racing there all afternoon, good times!
10 minute practice, 10 laps race, no pace, this is just to practice.
If we have enough interest lets have our first Parity event Friday at 17h00 ET,
more details here

I probably won't be able to make it this time, got a holiday thing after work tomorrow. I haven't really had a chance to practice either, things should calm down after Xmas though.

It will be interesting to see how many more Porsches arrive in 2017. Not only that but will they be part of a multi-manufacturer pack or will be see more full Porsche packs?

Kunos said there will be more, as have Porsche in the article linked 2 posts above, and they were able to replace the delayed 2017 911 RSR with the 911 Turbo S at very short notice.

I won't be getting too far ahead as I'm still waiting for Vol II.

I still don't get the 962C turbo update. I just checked in the settings screen they added a turbo % slider, which corresponds to the % you can select when driving (with numpad 0-9). So what's exactly the point? I thought it's going to be a baseline setting in the setting screen, and the cockpit controller is a modifier based on this baseline.

I'm so confused

People started up with the usual "Semislick? Hypercard Road? Who? What? Where?" in the v1.11 thread on the Official Forums. Fortunately, Aristotelis came around to squash the grand overthinking of the tires:

Code:
Sometimes you're overcomplicating things guys :D

Street tyres: Any good modern high performance summer street tyre. Anything you can find easily on your local tyre vendor.
Semislick tyres: Track oriented semislick tyres. Things like the original Toyo R888. NOT the latest R888R for example. Good trackday tyres, minimal tread.
Hypercar tyres: Those are special tyres, made specifically for the cars by the tyre manufacturers. They will have sufficient tread for rain and look like max performance summer tyres, but they also have custom compound for the cars and are stickier than a "normal" semislick. Usually they have more grip than a semislick, but wider slipangles because of the tread.

That's it.
V10 will keep the same names, and we will work heavily on their behaviour, heating, and handling.

I wonder why Kunos chooses generic names for these tyres? IIRC the Miura has the specific name of the tyre listed in the settings menu (Cinturato or something). If they really modelled the actual properties of each car's tyres in real life then it should be listed as such. This way you won't get confused because Street tyres on 2 different cars can still have quite different properties (and we don't know in game if they are all different or they are all just 1 generic street tyre like GT6).

You are correct. A "Street Tire" on a Corvette C7 is going to be a different tire from the "Street Tire" on the Abarth.

The reason they can't just give them the actual names is because that costs a lot of money to license "Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2", "Michelin Pilot Sport", "Pirelli P Zero", "Pirelli P Zero Corsa", etc... Kunos doesn't have that kind of money. Did you notice that the Porsche 962C came with a livery that looks really close to the classic Rothmans livery, but it said something else? Same deal. You can't just slap trademarks on everything you want. Modders can, because Michelin isn't going to sue some guy who has no assets to collect on.

As far as whether they model the actual properties of the real car's real life tire -- Nope. I'm sure there is quite a bit of data that they can collect regarding real life tires. So, I'm sure the Hypercar Road tires on the Aventador SV probably respond close to what the real Aventador SV tires give for performance...but not 100%. Tire models are probably one of, if not the hardest thing to "get right" in a sim, in my opinion. They carry all the weight, they feel every load/weight shift, they get really hot so performance fluctuates, etc...Look at the rFactor 2 Tire Model. That thing is insane!

Maybe JP, Brandon, mister dog...anyone -- I can't remember -- Assetto Corsa does simulate sidewall flex, right? They just don't show it on screen. Is that correct? I always forget these things.

Anyway, you are 100% right that the tire naming in AC is fakakta! But, it technically it's accurate based on the performance level each given tire has. Still, there has got to be something better that they could do so idiots like me wouldn't get confused so often.

Oh, as far as the Cinturato tires go...You're right -- that's a name brand Pirelli tire. I can't answer why they can use that trademarked name.

EDIT: Oh, and good to see you around the forums again...it's been quite some time, hasn't it?

Not to detract from your statement, but I think that's more partly due to it being a brand of cigarettes. Same reason Malboro is blurred out everywhere.

Ah yes, forgot about licensing. Always throws a spanner in the sim racing scene unfortunately :P Although I'd be quite happy with Kunos misspelling the names like old racing games of yore. Or even just list it as "Stock". I think they got away with Cinturato for Miura because Pirelli is Italian, and Kunos has good relationship with most Italian companies (how else did they manage to get Alfa, Maserati, Abarth, Ferrari and Lambo + all those Italian tracks).

It's a shame that they don't model each tyre's individual properties. Niels Heusinkveld (from Reiza) makes sure he tracks down exact specs for every car's tyre in Automobilista. Then again AMS mostly has generic cars loosely based on real world models, so he can do whatever he wants and calls it "accurate". Ah well, as long as it drives reasonably right for me it's ok 👍 I just wished AC has more sophistication than GT's generic tyre classification that's all.

And thanks for the kind words mate :D I've been pretty busy lately. I'm gonna be starting a proper job next year so I've been rearranging my life a bit. Kinda hard to fit GTP into all that (plus I prefer spending my free time racing than posting :P). Rest assured I'll always come back though, even if it's only once every few months ;) GTP has been my home on the 'net since 2006 and I intend to keep it that way.

SVX

Oh yeah...I completely forgot about that one. They still have to avoid trademarks, but SVX is correct. That's my mistake.

Hmmm...I probably should have worded my response a lot more carefully. First of all, I have absolutely no idea what they do. They could have undercover agents in each major tire manufacturer's labs with access to every drop of info available on each tire. They could be pulling these figures out of the air. I doubt either is true. I meant to say that I'm sure they do everything they're capable of doing to ensure accuracy. I can't see any reason why they would discard any real life information, so I'm sure what ever they're able to track down they incorporate into their sim as best as they can.

Is Niels Heusinkveld the same guy at Heusinkveld Engineering who builds those insanely awesome sim pedals and handbrakes? Oh, I want his hardware!!

You're still valid though. Stuff like Motul I believe has been replaced for simple Kunos stickers for example, I think.

Right, I misunderstood your initial post there 👍 Certainly given their obsessive attention to detail I am sure Kunos would try to incorporate everything they can get their hands on. Best case scenario I think is they just test by trial & error the cars delivered by the manufacturers around Vallelunga and try to match up the in game performance as close as possible. If they have access to tyre companies themselves then surely they would also have the official license.

Yeah, Niels is the same guy who used to make the excellent Corvette C6/Supra MkIV/NSX mods for rFactor 1. He has since been recruited by Reiza as their lead physics engineer, and also opens his own company making peripherals. Guys' living the dream I tell ya  Also used to be good friends with Aris (the lead physics guy for AC), so both share the same philosophy when it comes to racing sims. Realistic =/= difficult. Realistic = intuitive.

You can check out his channel here if you have time (https://www.youtube.com/user/niels007007/videos). He goes in depth into physics calculations, transferring real life date into games and such. Very interesting if you're the nerdy type :P

Very cool...I will certainly check out his YouTube page later today.

Fortunately, Kunos has established some very good relationships with car manufacturers. This isn't necessarily anything special - I'm sure many game developers develop similar relationships with manufacturers. So, when they are granted a license on a particular car, some companies roll out the red carpet, send engineers to Vallelunga with test vehicles for Aris (and others) to drive - take all sorts of measurements...everything you would expect a sim company to do.

I doubt every car manufacturer is that accommodating. Especially if there is going to only be 1 car from them in the sim. Or maybe some are just against sharing engineering data. I'm also making assumptions here. Again, I only know what Stefano, Aris & Marco tell us. Sometimes it's like, "Woah!! They really did that for you guys? They went into that much detail! Wow..." but, we don't hear that all the time. It doesn't mean that it didn't happen - maybe Kunos people didn't feel like going into it because they have real lives and don't want to live on the forums...

I think it would be really cool to be a fly on the wall for a single project...Take the Porsche project, for example. I wonder what truly goes on in those development sessions together - testing on track and testing on Assetto Corsa. It's probably pretty cool. Again, I'm sure every sim developer goes through a lot of the same stuff -- Kunos happens to be very lucky and have their headquarters inside a race track.

Indeed. It would be interesting to know the behind the scenes stuff. How they negotiate the license, how they decide which models to put, how they go about testing the cars. Do they speak to the chief engineer or the test driver (or both)? Also comparing how Kunos operates vs PD/T10/SMS for example.

We often forget that Kunos is a small company and for their size they are certainly punching way above their weight. Their good relationships with manufacturers can only get better at this point, and with revenue we will surely have lots more goodies to look forward to in AC2!

v1.11.2
- missing diffuser model added on Porsche 911R (3D model correction)
- UV error fixed on Porsche 917K, relevant template updated (certain mod skins will need updating)
- low-fuel warning light added on certain modern Porsche 911 models
- Championship bugs and fixes
- Fixed KERS charge input on Ferrari LaFerrari, Ferrari FxxK and Porsche 918 Spyder
- Adjusted 911R tyre heating

Just a heads up for anyone on PS4 both the full game and the Season pass are in the Big January PS Store Sale (UK).
Full Game only £19.99GBP Season pass only £11.99GBP (Which I guess includes the Porsche packs so not a bad buy until 20th Jan)

https://store.playstation.com/#!/en...e=Google&utm_term=ps-se-717&utm_content=Brand
So, do you have to live in the UK in order to access this? Do they move you into your region's section? Do all Playstation Stores have the same sales at the same time?

I agree 100%. So far, those two cars are the best of the pack, for me, so far. I'm about to go tear some 🤬 up with the classic race cars...and then I'll try the 2016 Porsche 919 which I really didn't think we needed considering we have the 2015 and there are pretty much no other official LMP1 vehicles...or am I forgetting something?

Well, we were supposed to get the TS040 and the R18 this year... but I don't know what happened to that.

Hope the 2017 roadmap has a lot of new goodies. This game will surely last through 2017 if they keep things fresh like they did in the last years, with regular updates and content.

With AC DLC, I'm less concerned with what's coming but more excited about what's next in store. Sure we have these lovely Porsches... but how are they going to surprise us next?

I kinda blame the consoles on the missing unrealesed cars. I mean, everything they had planned was pretty much delayed 2-3 months because of the delayed launch for consoles. And from there it was a domino effect.

But then, I'm glad they have made the step to consoles because it'll mean more exposure and revenue so that they can keep getting important licenses and more content for us to enjoy.

Wouldn't have had Porsches without the console.

That and a triple pack of 25 Porsches, I imagine.

That's why I wish they bring all the versions together as soon as possible, so that they can resume their normal workflow. I'm guessing they lose a lot of time going back and forth.

They've said Porsche we're the reason those cars got pushed back, think they've been working in the deal and making the cars for about a year.

Probably not much, they have a separate team dedicated to working on the console version.

I don't think console players should really want to be exactly even to the PC build...ever.

Once again, we received a decent sized update (v1.11) and since that update 3 days ago we've already received 2 additional hotfixes. If consoles stay a couple of weeks behind PC that would be better for console users. Kunos can't just throw hotfixes at console players as fast as they can PC players.

I think the deal with Porsche is happening regardless. From what I know it looks like Porsche approached Kunos for their simulation needs and in exchange allowed Porsche in AC for a bit of marketing and brand exposure.

Honestly I wonder how the whole console thing is affecting Kunos financially. It can't be cheap paying for the development, porting, marketing and royalty fees to MS & Sony. Depending on the sales it might just breakeven and not turn a profit after all. I hope I'm wrong though because Kunos needs all the help they can get.

Kunos have said that going to consoles was part of what made the Porsche deal happen.
