I have never been so confused over getting a racing game than with Assetto Corsa. Thanks to you all, I was convinced to get Automobilista, and Automobilista is a fine game. I am now sort of leaning on getting Assetto Corsa and maybe look into rFactor 2 in the future. The only concern of mine with AC is the (according to Steam) minimum requirement of a 2.8 GHz AMD Athlon processor or an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz processor, while I have a 1.99 GHz quad-core processor. I beat the minimum requirement processor-wise for Automobilista. If I do get to play Assetto Corsa, I will likely need to tone down some settings. I usually don't play too many games at maximum settings unless I have a beast enough computer to take advantage of everything.

What intrigues me most about Assetto Corsa is mostly the driving dynamics and what all you can do. I don't always think of racing games having hundreds of cars, like in the Gran Turismo series. I do, though, want to enjoy a variety of cars on a variety of tracks. I never fully engaged in pure simulation or motorsport style when racing in rFactor. So in the case of casual races, I don't think I will be disappointed too much in the racing aspect. Remember I am not any kind of hardcore sim racer. I know a wheel is recommended, but I will try to make due with a simple gamepad should I get AC. I guess you can say I have interest in this game's driving model much like I did when I used to play the vastly underrated Enthusia Professional Racing (which I would still recommend to you PS2 gamers).

In a way, I was also interested in the modding aspect. The process to make [at least] a track seems much easier in AC than in my 10+ years of playing rFactor. Assetto Corsa seems to have the most vibrant mod atmosphere among recent sim racers. MUCH more than Automobilista and a good bit more than rFactor 2. So that aspect is intriguing about AC.

So if I can get a $50 USD Steam gift card, I will be sure to get Assetto Corsa. I then want to get rFactor 2 in the future. I will need to remove some space on my regular external drive and/or my main hard drive to make room for both AC and rF2 unless I just get purely unimpressed by either or both games. AC seeminlgly requires 15 GB of space- 10 GB less than Automobilista. I'll see what happens and go from there...

A small unsolicited Windows 10 update today seems to have completely borked my on-track audio. I get nothing but complete silence now. All other games are fine.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: solved. I needed to reselect the correct audio driver out on the track using the sound app.

Phew.

Have an issue with the Ferrari F2004 on the PS4. Every time I go into the setup menu and try to go past the AERO tab to suspension etc, the game crashes. I've deleted and reinstalled the game and this still happens, is this a bug that others have come across or do I need to do something different?

EDIT: Not to worry, I've seen elsewhere on the forum that it is indeed an issue shared across other players... hopefully this can be addressed soon, the F2004 is probably my favourite ever sim car, it is fantastic to drive, and the sound in and outside the car is spot on!!!

Its a bug.

Its a bug.

Its a very annoying one, the base setup of the car is very, VERY good, but not being able to set the car up for Monza etc is frustrating... reducing the wings is fine for having a nice slippy car, but when it tops out at 195mph its no use really!!

Aris is d0ing a stream with RaceDepartment at 8PM CET tonight where he drives cars from this pack and talks about the cars.
I expect a lot of intelligent questions from the pro's ;) So I'm tuning in.

According to RD it is 8PM UK time. For me that is 9PM in Amsterdam. Will double check because of winter time, timezone etc

I found the server RaceDepartment is using.

There are thousands of people playing Assetto Corsa with a gamepad and having a blast. So, I don't think you should worry too much about that. I can't promise anything regarding system performance, but I do know there are many people running AC on old hardware. As you suggested, the visual settings will have to be turned down a bit, however, you will still probably have a very decent looking game in front of you. So you won't be able to run the highest smoke settings, the highest quality reflections and no the crepuscular rays or heat shimmering effect. Honestly, you won't be missing anything. I know many people who have $3,000+ systems who don't enable heat shimmering or crepuscular rays.

If I'm not mistaken, you can download Assetto Corsa from Steam and get your money back if you uninstall it within a certain amount of time. I don't remember the exact details, so please look into that before trying this. Load up AC and tweak the settings to a point your system can handle a full 20 car grid. If you're unhappy with the results...at least you can get your money back.

The modding aspect of Assetto Corsa on the PC platform is amazing. It is ridiculously easy for you to make your own personal skins, if you have image editing software on your PC. You can edit and tweak cars to your hearts content just by manipulating text files. No programming required. Anyhow, I hope to see you become part of the Assetto Corsa club. The community is very small, but for the most part it is a very peaceful & helpful community.

As long as you've owned it less than 14 days and played it less than 2 hours total you can get a full refund for any game on Steam. 👍

I will definitely take these things into consideration with Assetto Corsa. Thank you, ALB123 and others. Still trying to get enough extra money to get AC at this point for PC.

If I do get Assetto Corsa, I am not sure if I want to plunk down money for all the paid downloable content to go with AC. Like if AC was half-off for both the game and all of the paid DLC, I am not sure if I want to pay the discounted price to get the game and the DLC. I don't feel as good about this game as I did with Automobilista. I went back to a video review on YouTube from "LetsTestDrive" and that review of AC (an excellent review, I might add). I actually can live without intense weather conditions or even no night racing. Assetto Corsa is dubbed as being "Your Racing Simulator." While AC is not a hardcore racing sim like iRacing or the GTR games, AC is kind of a very decent middle ground. It is a middle ground of racing style action and playing simply for the joy of driving. Not many racing/driving games have focused modes on drifting and drag racing. So Assetto Corsa is kind of an overall love affair with driving and racing. It doesn't focus on one or another exclusively, but there is plenty of reason to at least try this game.

Actually if I had a PS4 or an XB1, I probably would get this game for those consoles. It may not be as polished and full of potential as the PC version, but it would get me started. Every sort of video and live stream of AC just helps in me in finally making my decision whether or not to get AC. And of course, your suggestions here on GTP helps.

Steam has a pretty lenient refund policy, if you've owned it less than 14 days and played it less than 2 hours in total you get a full refund. Grab it, try it, if you don't like it get a refund. 👍

Sorry for the double post but it's relevant. AC is on sale for $12 for the base game on Steam right now. With all the Dream Pack DLC it's only $20 and the Porsche Season pass is only $6.03. So if my maths are right, that's $26.03 for AC and all content, bargain of the year. 👍

I was just going to post this one. You were 2 minutes faster ;)

Decisions, decisions... all I'd need is a little $20 USD gift card to get Assetto Corsa. I think I saw this sale lasts until January 4, 2018. So that's plenty of time to think of getting AC and/or any number of the DLC packs. For now, I am still thinking of getting just bone stock Assetto Corsa. No point in getting something extra that isn't going to work. It would be like upgrading a car ot a PC that you don't like.

Best case for me is if I get a $50 USD Steam gift card so I could really stretch my options, because I could decide further to get some AC add-ons or maybe get AC and another game while this sale is ongoing. Either one $50 or two $20 gift cards. I'll see what happens and will take on this sale as best as I can.

One of the things that makes the Huracan Performante such a bada$$ car is the active aerodynamics. That's how it was able to post a better lap time than the 918 around Nordschleife...crazy awesome aerodynamics. Has anyone looked into the aero.ini file for the Huracan Performante? Holy Jesus... It is incredibly complex compared to the Aventador SV, for instance. I haven't been able to figure out everything yet, but there is a lot more to the aero of this car than any other Kunos car I've examined previously.
